Sunday at the Martintown Mill

Every Sunday through the summer, the Martintown Mill hosts an art show and farmers' market.

 The art show is housed in the newly renovated Martintown Mill, an historic site.

The space inside is really nice, divided up for four artists. Natalie chose one wall and her colourful hooked rugs looked fabulous.

 My painted china fit in nicely in the setting I thought.

I haven't done much painting as of late, so stock is running low. 

Meanwhile, Natalie was finding her inspiration behind the mill at the water's edge photographing the myriad of painted lady butterflies that have been inundating the area as of late.

Art Fayre 2012

 This year's Art Fayre took place at the Glengarry Pioneer Museum last weekend.

 There was fabulous artwork all over the inside log walls of the Lodge.

I particularly loved Brenda Kennedy's laughing hearts. That my mini-house under it.

 Brian Schofield's amazing wood turned art pieces.

 Outside there were tasty snacks and Sigrun and Natalie were trying them out.

 Artwork was tucked into every nook and cranny. Above left were three of my small drawings.

 Natalie's bright pencil drawings looked great on the log walls.

 Meanwhile, there was more art to be set up outside.

 Sometimes artists were as colourful as their artwork.

 Over at the Big Beaver Schoolhouse, Sue set up a children's art display.

 Some of the kids took turns being the teacher...

 ...while self-portraits looked on appreciatively.

 Outside there were artists demonstrating how they made their art. Brian did some woodturning...

 ...while Gerdine used her chainsaw to create her masterpieces.

 There were more demos under the pavilion.

 And more artwork inside the Lodge.

Art Fayre. A great way to show off the museum in Dunvegan and the talents of local artists.

More from the Art Show

I did a whole series of small watercolours for the show this past weekend. Here are two kitties that were 5" x 7"




I did two small chickens with funky, bright tails.


I did a 3"x5" doggy...

...and a matching kitty cat jumping through the air.




I also did a series of 3 mini-cats with birds on their heads, only about 1.5" x 2".

Also in Saturday's art show were sketches of my fall visit up to the Muskokas.


I did a series of small watercolour and ink drawings of the view.


The trees and their changing colours...


...everything around me was so inspiring.


Even rocks at the water line were lovely.


You can't go wrong with colours like that!


I like how loose they are compared with my pencil stuff.

Art Show 2011

Our art show was a great success on Saturday. Lots of folks came out to wish us well.


Holly had a table full of painted wildlife: butterflies, foxes, bunnies and owls.


Natalie had needle-felted cats and cows and hooked rugs and bugs.


I had my painted ceramics and a selection of new drawings made especially for this show.


I fell in love with the Olson house that I visited in Maine on vacation this year so drew it several times. This one fit in a cool wooden oval frame.

Christina, who lived in the house, loved red geraniums and always had them growing in her kitchen windows.


I was also inspired by our Thanksgiving in the Muskokas and drew the canoe waiting for its last trip that fall.
