The Many Getups of Jacob Rasmuson

Mom's winter hat.
Grace's sweater and tiara.

Onesie, Grace's shoes, bandana, upside-down pink sunglasses.
And shovel. And Bob the Builder sippy cup.
Dad's hat worn backwards, upside-down pink sunglasses.
Low-rider swim trunks, Dad's hat worn backwards.
Did I mention the low-ride?
And birthday suit. With sword.

(Amazing how he stayed covered for the photos.)

We Are Family!

I got all my sistas with me!
(Well, we make four out of six.)
Sisters are the best.
What can I say? It was a late night.

Halloween 2009

The University of Utah hosts a Halloween event each year. Each department has a house on Officer’s Circle. For the event, residents of each house choose a theme and decorate the house, wear costumes, and provide activities for children to do. It’s pretty amazing, actually. Some of the themes were: Mad Scientist, Mario Brothers (their costumes were amazing), Alice in Wonderland, and Up! At the Up! house they gave the kids a balloon with a small paper house tied to the end of the string. As we were leaving, I was saying something about seeing one of the houses flying away. Grace kept disagreeing with me about it. “You’re kidding.” “No, Grace. I’m not. The house must not have been heavy enough.” This went on for several minutes until, DUH! I finally got it. She thought I was talking about a real house.

Grace’s costume was really fun this year. (Heavy sarcasm.) First she was Goldilocks. I bought a blond wig and everything. Well, after wearing it to the Trunk-or-Treat, she decided she didn’t like the wig. So we tried to come up with something else for Trick-or-Treating the next night. It was the most interesting getup I ever saw. Her costume was part Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz (ruby slippers,) part ballerina (tutu,) part chef (apron,) part Davey Crocket (raccoon hat.) Plus it changed throughout the night when she got tired of wearing something. Wow. That’s just about all I can say. Wow.

The Pumpkin Patch

After Grace chose her pumpkin, my mother asked her, "Are you sure you want that one? It doesn't have a stem." Grace replied, "That's okay 'cause I want it to be a girl."

Jacob checking out his stem. (He. He. He.)

Happy Birthday, Richard!

Happy Birthday, Richard!

I’ll tell you what. If I could choose anyone to be my father-in-law, it would be you. I love you so much. You’re more than just a father-in-law. You’re a second father. My life has been enriched so much by knowing you. Thank you for accepting me into your family. You have always made me feel so welcome and important.

You were there the moment I married your son, and you have been there ever since, so supporting and caring. Honestly, Ricky and I could not have lasted these 7 ½ years without you.

A fond memory:

Remember when you used to give me a ride to the Pharmacy when I worked for you? Ricky and I lived in that apartment complex on 5th South. They put some new speed bumps on the road we would drive on. When you didn’t notice them and flew over them for the first time, you yelled out, “How rude!” It cracked me up!

10 Reasons Why You Are So Cool

1. You’re as smart as a tack.

2. You run a rockin’ Pharmacy.

3. You’re super healthy. You’ve really been an inspiration to me in that department.

4. You’re a good looking guy, which is also nice because you gave some of those good-looking genes to my husband. Thanks for that.

5. Your sniffer doesn’t work too well, so you ask me to smell things for you sometimes. I like that.

6. You’re skilled in the fine art of grilling.

7. You’ve got better karate chop action than Buzz Lightyear.

8. You’re an excellent photographer.

9. You’re a regular boy scout. You’re trustworthy,
loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient,
cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent.

10. You’re an amazing grandfather. My kids adore you.

Three Sweet Words

Today was a hard day. There were, however, three sweet words that warmed my heart, gave me courage, and touched my soul. Those words are: On My Way.
