Front Door Friday: crab and seahorse

Today's FDF door is a few houses down from where I live. This lady always changes her wreaths for the season or holiday. She is very creative. If I get a chance to talk to her, I am going to ask her if she makes them herself or if she buys them already made.

I was sitting her buzzing through the channels and found Magnum P.I. This makes my heart feel so happy. I remember when I was just graduated from school and I had a TV in my room and I worked during the day and then did a little school at night. I would always make a point to watch Magnum P.I. I was so excited about the show, that I would NOT miss it if at all possible. Seems like it came on on Thursday nights back in the early 80s. I thought he was so handsome! Someone gave me a photograph of him playing tennis somewhere and I had it hanging on my mirror for years.

I loved to daydream about what my life would be like back then and I would daydream that I lived in Hawaii in a small house like my grandmothers that had the jalousy windows. My kitchen sink looked out into the back yard that was so beautiful with green grass and tropical flowers and palm trees and lots of shade and then the water was far beyond but I could see a glimpse of it. That memory of my daydreaming has stuck with me all these years and still makes me happy to think about it. My grandmother did go to Hawaii in the 1970s and brought me back some Plumeria perfume and a real lei that was so pretty. Magnolia Sun sent me some Plumeria perfume while she lived there. Good memories.

One day when I'm old-old I'm going to get all of Magnum P.I. shows on video and just watch them over and over!

Magnolia tree and blooms

Magnolia trees are in full bloom now around here. I love to see the big blooms. A lot of times the owners of the trees will trim the branches from the lower portion of the tree and then you're not able to get to the blooms. The blooms are huge and they have the most wonderful smell. I wish I could find a perfume that smelled just like them.

My first memory of a magnolia tree was at my Great Aunt Nancy and Uncle Si's home on Felder Avenue in Montgomery, Alabama. They were so old when I was very little and have passed on long ago. My mama would go visit and my brother and I would play out in the yard. There was the BIGGEST magnolia tree in the front yard and my brother would climb up in the limbs (I was too chicken to climb it) I would get under the limbs, too, and it was like being inside a fort.

You can see the huge Magnolia tree to the right in this picture. It was huge back in the late 1960s when we were there and now 40 years later...it's still huge. Growing past the roof line on the house. Their house is now a museum dedicated to F. Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald because they rented the home in 1931. Aunt Nancy owned the house sometime after that.

This is the Magnolia tree on my walk that I found recently. It looks like the branches have never been cut back so they go down very low so that you can get a good look at the blooms.

Here is a bloom. I wish I could send you all the smell coming from this bloom.

Magnolia Sun....you picked a great name for your blog.

Good Mail Bad Baxterman Boring Book

Today I opened the mailbox and there was a colorful envelop in there with these cute flip-flop spoon rests in it. How wonderful. They are from my friends in New Hampshire! Willow & Belle's family. Thank you, girls! I can sure use these. When I'm cooking, I am always looking for something to lay the fork or spoons on and having more than one will certainly make sure I always have one handy.

This little man, Baxterman, has started a bad little ritual when I go get my shower at night. He comes in my room and gets on the bed. He always has done this. He usually waits for me to get out and then I usually go to bed. Never had a problem out of him. UNTIL....this weekend he decided to get up on my night table and get the Kleenex box. The first time, he pulled the box onto the bed and it turned over so he couldn't get anymore Kleenex out of it. But he was able to get one, I guess when he pulled the box down. He was busy eating it. So I moved the Kleenex box to the other side of the night table thinking he wouldn't reach it. HA!!!!

The next night when I came out of the bathroom, he had knocked the Kleenex box to the floor. I guess he had to get all the way up on the night table to reach the box and did not know how to get himself and the box back to the bed. He was up on the bed chewing on some Kleenex. So I see the box on the floor and I go to pick it up. Guess what??? He pee-pee'd on it, too! Now there will be no more Kleenex box on the night table.

Here is the bad boy feeling sorry for himself. But he's not as bad as Chester!

I started reading this book two weeks ago. OH MY GOODNESS.... It was taking me forever. It is so detailed and it is written based on letters that the author researched from the life of these princesses and their family and friends and caretakers. I finally had to do a run-through because I was starting to not look forward to reading it. I don't know how this author finished writing this book....too much detail. I'll be leaving it somewhere today and hopefully someone will find it and leave a comment over on Bookcrossing.com.

This was caught not too far from the little neighborhood park where I sometimes take pictures.

I found this little thingy over on Priscilla's blog.

You're unique and flexible. And you defy any category.
Mentally strong and agile, you do things your own way. And you do them well.
You are a natural leader... but also truly a loner. You inspire many but connect with few.

We had a nice weekend here. The parents came over on Friday and we went to the seafood market. Then we went to eat lunch at our favorite restaurant. The food is always good.

This is the entrance to the restaurant.

These pictures didn't come out clear enough because I turned the flash off. This is the Greek spaghetti.

Shrimp and oysters dinner.

This is what they put on the table when you are seated. It's olive oil, chopped olives and feta cheese...yummy.

Red snapper Greek style.

This guy was taking a nap around noontime at the seafood market.

Shrimp chips at the seafood market...does not sound good to me.
