The end of a year.....a time to reflect and a time to "just be" and hope for the future.
Personally I am grateful for all that I have ......health, love, family and home.

Eureka Tower is in Southbank, Melbourne. It is the world's tallest residential building. On Level 88 is Skydeck which the public can visit for an entrance fee.Skydeck 88 is the highest public vantage point in the Southern Hemisphere. Eureka opened earlier this year and as Gordon enjoys the experience of views from tall buildings, this was part of his Christmas present.

On a clear day like today, the views and perspective of Melbourne from such a vantage point are spectacular.
And for those who like statistics, the top of the tower can flex up to 600mm in high winds.
3 600 stairs - 92 storeys.

An added attraction is The Edge - a glass cube which projects 3 metres out from the building - with you in it - suspended almost 300 metres above the ground!








Seen here is the MCG (Melbourne Cricket Ground) and in the foreground is Rod Laver Arena complete with the outside courts that will soon come alive with the Australian Open.

As it was going to be a hot Summer's day here in Sunbury, I dug out a Christmas UFO Christmas Cats. Theory being that perhaps I could use it next year!
A few years ago, I made a New Year's resolution that I would label any project I started and I am happy to say that for the most part I have kept that resolution. So according to the storage bag of this project, I bought the fabric and pattern at the 2004 July Quilt Show at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre ( aka to Victorians as Jeffs Shed as it was built in the time of former State Premier, Jeff Kennett).
A quilting friend of mine bought one at the same time and seeing hers on display at her house this Christmas reminded me I should finish mine. I had been quite industrious and had completed a lot of the applique except for one row which is ornaments which I never liked and this is why it has sat for so long. However at a later stage, I had changed that row to stockings and was delighted to find them half made.
So the project has progressed to cutting up the panel and one row is now completely finished!


Meanwhile the temperature reached 39 degrees. Thank goodness for air conditioning!

Out with the old.....

We started the day by washing the doona cover and airing the 2 doonas we have here in Sunbury.
That led to the 6 monthly tidy up of the linen cupboard which then led to looking at the wardrobe in the sewing room!!!
Still a big mess in the sewing room but we haven't really seriously looked at the contents of that wardrobe in 3 years.
Hmmmmmm....
We found an empty shoe box,a box for a CD player we no longer have, a box to a printer we are no longer using ......
Let's just say the recycling bin and the rubbish bin are getting full!
But Gordon did proudly call out just before....
" I can see carpet!"
Think I need a vino.
And I didn't mention G's knee giving way as he stepped off the step ladder earlier and he ended up writhing in pain in the hallway and me asking if I should get an ambulance.
Ok I DEFINITELY need a vino.

And my linen cupboard looks superb!

It has been a beautiful Summer day in Sunbury. No wind, just the right temperature - 24 degrees. The kind of day that inspires activity. DH has been very industrious and we now have a clean oven and gleaming BBQ.

Earlier in the year, we ripped out an ornamental passionfruit vine that the previous owners had planted along the back fence. Apart from deterring Indiana Cat from jumping the back fence, the vine never did much for us. It just looked scraggly and untidy. So it went and in its place, we planted 2 Iceberg climbing roses. Today DH decided that we needed one more on the fence, so this afternoon we had a lovely visit to Poyntons of Essendon.

We chose a Seduction Rose which has tinges of pale pink graduation to white.

It's been a busy weekend with visitors and last minute shopping. I went to the local library today to look for some books that were recommended as I never know what to read and everything that interested me was checked out! So reading will have to wait awhile.

The above quilt is my "new" Christmas quilt. Bought in a kit at the Brisbane Quilt Show in Oct 2005, started in 2006 and finally finished in 2007.

We're having Christmas dinner at a friend's place tomorrow so tonight we are having a marinated chicken roast with veges as it is too cool to sit outside and bbq.

How do you know it's Christmas Eve in Sunbury? When the local CFA comes around the suburbs with Santa on board handing out lollies and letting the siren scream!

Having read,enjoyed and admired several other blogs, on the weekend I decided the only to learn about it was to have a go. Ok so it's taken until Wednesday to do it.
But here I am....
Taking a deep breath and exhale.....
Well that wasn't so bad and all this doesn't seem so scary after all!
