Golfing with Dad for Father's Day

This year for Father's Day I took my dad golfing. We went first thing in the morning and Brett took the day off work and came with us. We went to McRiley's which is a Par 3 course and as usual we spent a lot of time laughing and looking for balls! We're pretty pro as you can see by Brett's stretching technique and the ancient golf bag sitting in the bag boy!                                                                                                               

Queenie, the Lorax and Peas

My parents are lucky enough to have neighbors with horses. We can wander right through the back gate and feed the horses carrots from Grandpa's garden. This day we noticed a trailer that said, Riding Camp for Kids.
I went right over to inquire about getting Afton signed up but the lady running the show said  Afton had to be 4. Afton was disappointed but the gal in charge asked if we could help her brush Queenie while she finished up with her client. (This gal was renting the stables and didn't live there).
After brushing Queenie I took Afton, Tally and Holdy to the theaters to watch the Lorax. It was really cute and the kids were pretty mesmerized and quiet. The popcorn helped too!

Cattle Drive, Rodeo, Horse Parade and the Park

We love Lehi in June! We go to the parades, the rodeo, the park and really get our fill of the cowboy way of life.  The cattle drive hasn't been done in years and we were anxious to see what would happen. The cattle were fun to watch as they walked down the road and the men on horses kept them tightly within their circle.

National Anthem at the rodeo! Love this kid.

Of course Grandma brought a pink cowgirl hat for Afton to wear during the rodeo!

The all horse parade was by far Afton's favorite. She waved and waved to everyone!

Afton LOVED the fairy wings and the horses wearing pink and green were her favorites.

On the swings the last day of festivities. We watched part of the big parade, pet the animals, got a butterfly painted on Afton's face and climbed around in the big bouncy caterpillar!

Highland Splash Pad

Today I met Abby and Jamielyn at the splash pad in Highland. I'd heard about it but never been so I was excited to try it out. Along with a ton of other people. I couldn't believe how packed it was.

I was worried (big surprise) about the rocks being too dangerous but Afton did just fine. She loved running around and was happy to have some girlfriends to play with.

 I wish I would have caught this expression without the boy in the picture but I still love Afton's face. She was taking a break, watching the big kids play.

Swimming lessons!

This year I took Afton to the American Fork Rec. Center for swimming lessons. She had eight, 30 minute lessons and 5 kids in her class. She really seemed to enjoy her time in the pool and loved playing ring around the rosy. At the beginning she wandered away a few times and I would grab her but finally told one of the cute teachers that they were 'welcome to keep her with the class'. Sheesh

When it was all said and done Afton loved putting her face under water, was learning to float, and when Brett and I took her back she actually jumped off the diving board!

I had the hardest time deciding which photos to use. I have so many I just love. Maybe I'll do a photo book!

She had two teachers (I think they were sisters) and this one was really good with Afton. 

Before starting swimming lessons Afton wouldn't put her face in the water. After the first couple of days this is what she looked like!

Where's the class? Where are the teachers? Who am I paying?

This made me laugh because I just happened to catch this little girl looking at Afton's swimming suit. It was really cute.

Alone again? 

The last day of class the teachers gave each child a certificate and a sucker. I soon realized the teacher had been calling Afton ASTON and that was what she'd written on the certificate. What did she think her nick name was???

Father's Day

Sometimes I think Brett loves Afton more than any Dad has loved his little girl. She loves it when he walks in the door after work and she loves to cuddle and read books or watch TV. She loves playing rough house and she really loves following him around the yard!

Going away party for Kira

This little going away party was so much fun and so sad at the same time. Kira was moving away and will be missed. Everyone pitched in on the food and I loved getting the house decorated and ready.

Kira is so wonderful and kind and her daughter Addie was in the neighborhood preschool with Afton. I know we'll stay in touch but it won't be as good as having her across the street!

I am loving banners right now. This is the 3rd one I've had hanging in the kitchen this month!

Battle Creek Falls

Today we went to Battle Creek Falls with some friends in the neighborhood. It's a fun little hike located in PG somewhere above Grandpa Morley's house.

The hike itself was easy and Afton loved having her new friend Kylie to pal around with. She wanted to hike with her, hold her hand, and even tried to follow her across some rocks on a little part of the stream and got her whole foot wet before I could grab her. Oh well. We were on our way down by then.

All of the kids loved running up and down the trail and they really liked getting splashed by the waterfall! The water was cold but refreshing! We stopped at the top for snacks and photos! 

The Playhouse

I'd been thinking about getting Afton a plastic playhouse for quite a while. I hadn't started looking online yet but I knew Afton was ready and so when I drove by a huge yard sale on Main Street in Lehi I knew I had to stop. It was actually Friday night as I drove by so I dragged Brett and Afton along the next morning. Right in front there were multiple playhouses and Afton went straight over. She loved them all! I had a friend mention that the guys in charge weren't very good at negotiating and had a tendency to price everything too high so as Brett walked over I wondered... $100 was the asking price. I couldn't believe it. The one Afton wanted was obviously old and used and the guy wouldn't budge.

We left with Afton crying and I started looking online as we ran to the nursery. Once home I thought I'd use FB (which I never use) and get the word out. I wrote that we were shopping for a plastic playhouse and within 4 hours I got a call from my sweet friend Rachel who's daughter I taught a few years ago in 1st grade. She had put my post on her wall and received an immediate response.

I called the gal and by 9:00 that night we had a playhouse. The story gets ever better because the playhouse is pink, purple, and white, and Barbie! It was practically brand new and FREE!! Tatum, the gal who owned it before talked with me on the phone and said their basement had flooded and everything had been removed. A lot was damaged and many items were loaded up to go the DI. The playhouse included. For some reason she asked her husband to pull it out of the pile and leave it home. It wasn't assembled anymore but had zero water damage and hadn't ever been outside or even played with in years. She told me she had a feeling to keep it and I posted on FB the very next day.

When Brett went to pick it up he couldn't believe how nice it was and said Tatum wouldn't accept any money. Afton's face absolutely lit up when she saw it and we had so much fun the next day putting it together. She had breakfast out there and couldn't be happier.

I have since talked with Tatum and she told me the playhouse was a gift for her daughter when she was 3. It was given to her by her grandma who recently passed away. The daughter is now 15 and Tatum said the two of them cried when they saw the pictures I posted on FB.
