Tigers, Mermaids and Fishies Oh My

So a few weeks ago I decided that the girls needed blankets for their beds. So I was keeping my eye out for some material that I liked, and was affordable. I was at the DI one day and found exactly what I was looking for. I found some twin sheets in perfect condition, that were The Little Mermaid and Princess Jasmine and her tiger. I knew the 2 Princesses would be in love. I thought that it was high time I helped the girls have cute bedrooms. I have a friend who has been painting her sons room in various characters and I thought these two patterns would be perfect to do something similar.

So this weekend I was able to meet up with my mom in Park City and tie the quilts. The girls just love helping grandma with all of her various "projects". This time they learned how to clip the strings on the curtains she was sewing.Then they thought it was a fun idea to use the fabric strips to tie up the chairs. We spent almost a full day and a half tying the 2 quilts. I was so excited to be doing it with my mom, so the girls would have a history to go with the quilts.

They both really got into "helping" tie them too. It was amazing that no one got an eye poked out.
Princess M has been super excited for her Tiger blankie. She even wanted to sleep with it that night even though it wasn't quite finished. The binding still needs to be done.
We woke up the next morning and finished Princess E's. I taught her how to push the needle down and then bring it back up which would result in a stitch. She would cover each fish with a few stitch's and say, look mom they all have band aids. Not sure why they all needed band aids, but it was still cute.
It was a good weekend out with the girls. My fingers are killing today, and I still have work to do until they are ready to go on the beds. But it will be worth it in the end. I will post pictures of the completed blankets when they are finished. Or I might wait until the rooms are all completed. I guess we will just see.

Old Friends

On my way up to Park City this weekend I remembered that one of my old mission companions/room mates/long lost sisters lives there. Most of you that know me well, know that I am not the best at keeping in touch. Hence one of the reasons why I started this blog in the first place. I decided that it had been way to long. I would give her a call and see if she had plans or if she wanted to come hang out. I was in luck, she and her adorable baby were ready to come and play.

When I first met Molly I was on my mission. I would see her at various transfer days and such. I was very intimidated by her. She was so put together and gorgeous!! She was so talented, she had a voice that was out of this world. She had been performing for many years, and she was just so dang outgoing. Everyone liked her, and I prayed that I wouldn't ever have to be companions with her. I just knew that I would feel like such a looser if that ever happened.

Well a few months later the Mission Pres call's up and my new companion was on her way to the area. Low and behold Miss Hottie Tottie and I were to be companions. I was so worried! BUT, I had nothing to be worried about. Molly and I were kindred spirits. We were so different, but so much a like. We were so silly together. We knew what each other were thinking most of the time. She has a way about her that she makes who ever she is with feel like a million bucks. I felt, and still do feel like a better person because I know her.

After our missions we decided to become room mates. I still remember driving around and looking at apartments. After we sat in the car and both prayed individually about the apartments we had seen, then talked about the answers we had received. Just like we used to do when looking for streets to tract. It was pretty funny. I have so many good memories of all our times together.

It is always so good to catch up with old friends and to see them doing so well. I was telling my mom that in my dream world that I would love to have all of the people in my life that I care about, live in a neighborhood all around me. That way I would always have them near.

Crazy uncle Kyle

We love it when we get to spend time with Uncle Kyle and Aunt Christy. They came out to our house a few weeks ago and we had a bbq. Uncle Kyle is going to be such a great dad when cousin Gabby comes in a few months. Because he is so dang good with the nieces and nephews.

On this Sunday, he and princess E were teaching each other "tricks" We were laughing so hard. Here he is doing a cart wheel.

Then he did some awesome dance moves, but I was laughing so hard I forgot to take a picture.

Then he taught the girls a cool trick where you roll up in a towel, or blanket, and then someone unrolls you really fast. They thought that was pretty fun and took turns doing it several times.

Then it was uncle Kyles turn. He was such a good sport.

We love you Uncle Kyle. Thanks for making us smile.

Our trip to the fire station

A few months ago I joined another online community for moms in our area. We do a lot of little play groups and outings, as well as chat online. Well this week we were lucky enough that one of our moms talked her fire captain husband into giving our kids a tour of the fire station and what it is to be a fireman.

They started out by showing the kids a dvd staring Elmo, about fire safety and how you never go back into your house when there is a fire. They then showed them the smoke detector and talked about getting out of your house as quickly as possible.In the dvd, elmo was a little afraid of the fire man because he looked a little bit scary with his whole fireman's suit on. So then another fire fighter came in and put the uniform on piece by piece and explained what each piece was and how it protected them in a fire. Trying to help the kids understand that even though it looks a little scary, really they are the good guys and are here to help.When we got to this point, princess M wasn't so sure anymore. She began looking around for me in a panic.Then they showed how if the fire fighter falls down a sound starts to come out of his gear that helps the other fire men find him. It progressively got louder and louder. Combined with the scary looking masked man, breathing through his oxygen mask, and the loud beeping, the princesses were not very impressed. LOLAfter the demonstration on the gear, they let who ever wanted to, try it on. Our girls were to afraid, but a friends children did. They are about the same sizes as the girls so it gives you an idea of how it would have looked on them.We then went out side to see the trucks. They were pretty impressive.

One guy got up on the top of the truck and started spraying water and then they got the other hose down and let each of the kids take a turn holding the hose and spraying the water. I was so proud of princess E. After all the other kids had taken a turn, and she saw that it wasn't so bad she decided she could do it too.

They loved their little 'fire chief' helmets they gave them. They wore them all day, even to the store. When people would stop us and tell us how cute they were, princess E would tell them, "I am fireman E, and this is my sister fireman M." It was so funny.

Fridays on Vine

So I have a new job. I go every Friday to the farmers market here in town and try and make a few bucks. So far it hasn't been very profitable, but it is free to just sit there and try and sell my goods.

It started when my talented sister decide to make these really cool diaper pouches. She had seen them at several baby showers, and decided that she could make them. She sent one to each of her sisters, and we all fell in love with them. They are so handy to keep in your purse, church bag and even the car glove box. You have all that you need in one convenient place. Well I talked her into making more and I would try and sell them for her. I have sold a few, and I hope people catch on to just how cool they really are.

After the first week, I started to think about what else I might be able to sell. I have been making and exchanging home made cards for over almost 2 years now. So I decided those would be a good start. I have so many and I am always getting compliments on them. I also started making hair bows, but I am not sure yet if I will be selling them. They are really cute, but a lot of work. The princesses go to the market with me. But it isn't as much fun for them is it is for me. Unless they are watching the lady who does the face painting. That excites them to no end. Princess E actually saved up all her chore money the second week so she could get each cheek and her hand painted.

Pioneer Day 07

Utah celebrates 2 holidays in July. The first is the 4th and the 2nd is the 24th of July, or Pioneer day. It is a day when we celebrate the pioneers as they came into the Salt Lake valley. Well the city where we live holds a children's parade where each of the wards makes a float and the primary kids get to ride it. Well this year I was in charge as I am the primary president. I tried to get out of it, because July was so busy for us. But I was told it would be a big disappointment to the kids if we didn't participate. So I learned to delegate and it was a lot of fun. The theme was "Our Children's Legacy" In this picture you can see, we took it a little further. The activity day girls made the fruit and veggie posters, my two counselors made the tissue paper flowers, and the webelo scouts helped assemble the trailer into our cute float.
Here are our 2 cute pioneer girls. It was fun seeing princess E wear my little pioneer bonnet.

It had been raining for a few days so we were not sure if we would be having the parade. It did end up raining on us, but it was welcomed because it was so hot. We kept a cooler of otter pops on the back of the trailer and just kept them coming. I was supposed to walk beside the float and help the kids stay on, but I ended up riding on the bumper of the truck after I had run along side the float for a few blocks. The driver was great at stop, hurry catch up, stop, hurry catch up. So I was beat and sweating like crazy. I am sorry I don't have a picture of that for your viewing pleasure. :)
