Two Dead In Hospital Shooting

"DOVER, NH — A New Hampshire man wrote an upbeat post about his plan to kill his ailing wife in a `double suicide`—and then carried out the deed inside her hospital room.

"`Love you all, peace out!` concluded the message, which was posted on Facebook just minutes before Mark Lavoie carried out the murder/suicide inside of Dover’s Wentworth-Douglass Hospital Tuesday morning.

"Authorities did not identify the shooter or the victim, but Lavoie’s sister confirmed her brother was the gunman.

"Dorcas Lavoie said her brother had acted `out of love` for his wife Katherine, 49.

"`They both loved each other very much,` she told The Associated Press.

"In his posting, Lavoie said he wanted to put his wife out of her misery.

"Police went to the hospital just after 6 a.m. after a 911 call reported gunshots in a private room in the critical care unit.

"`While the investigation is still in the early stages and ongoing, the two deaths appear to be the result of a murder/suicide,` the New Hampshire Attorney General’s office said in a statement."

Two Found Dead After SWAT Standoff

"MOUNT ANGEL, OR — An hours-long standoff ended in tragedy in the town of Mount Angel Saturday morning, when a man took his own life, as well as the life of his ex-girlfriend’s mother.

"Daniel Cuanas was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound Saturday morning, after an armed standoff involving his ex-girlfriend, Elizabeth Schwartz, and her mother, Kathleen Schwartz.

"Elizabeth Schwartz escaped with her 15-month-old son, and notified police, who responded to the home at 775 St. Mary’s circle at 2:30 a.m. Her mother, Kathleen Schwartz, was still inside the home at that time.

"During the standoff, Cuanas, armed with firearms, threatened to take his own life, and yelled for police to shoot him.

"Several agencies, including the Woodburn Police Department’s Tactical Services Unit, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, the Silverton Police and the Mount Angel Police were involved.

"After numerous attempts to diffuse the situation and safely get Kathleen Schwartz out, officers heard what sounded like a gunshot. Via phone, Cuanas told officers he had accidentally discharged his gun. At roughly 3:00 a.m., Cuanas posted the words `Sorry world` to his Facebook account."

Facebook Message Leads Man To Gruesome Scene

"DETROIT, MI — A man who read his brother’s message on Facebook that he would commit suicide rushed to his sibling’s home and found the bodies of his brother and a woman.

"Police were called to the home—located in the 15000 block of Rossini, near State Fair and Gratiot—at about 7:30 p.m. Thursday, according to Third Deputy Chief Rodney Johnson.

"`The man went to the home to check on his brother and had to force his way into the home via the rear entrance,` Johnson said. `He went to the bedroom and found blood coming from underneath the door. He called 911, and when police arrived, they found two bodies, that of a man and a woman.`

"According to Johnson, police also found two guns nearby.

"`We’re still investigating, but at this point, it looks like it is probably a murder/suicide,` Johnson said. `We’re not sure of the relationship between the man and the woman, but it looks like it might be some kind of a domestic dispute.`"

"Don't Judge Me"

"WESTMINSTER, CO — Grieving family members [said] a man took a picture of his baby on Monday, posted it on Facebook, then shot and killed the girl and then shot himself.

"The mother of the baby called Westminster police about 9:35 a.m. and said when she woke up, her ex-boyfriend was standing over her with a handgun.

"The mother, Kimphone `Kim` Phanthavongsa, 21, told police there was an altercation and she ran out of her apartment at 7030 Stuart St. She called police from a neighbor’s apartment, saying her ex-boyfriend, Merrick McKoy, 22, had a gun and he was inside her apartment with their child.

"Westminster Police Investigator Wayne Read said when officers arrived, they heard gunshots. He said they found a child and an adult male with gunshot wounds.

"Both victims were taken to the hospital. Police confirm that 19-month-old Mia McKoy-Phanthavongsa died.

"`She just learned how to walk,` said a tearful Vannatda Sivixai. `What an angel. Whenever she smiled it was bright.`

"The condition of the suspect, McKoy, is unknown, police said.

"Police said McKoy had an active restraining order prohibiting him from being at that apartment.

"McKoy's Facebook page shows a photo of the man and the girl posted just before the shooting. Two other posts, after the photo said, `Ima miss stall lol [sic]` and `Don't judge me had no choice [sic].`"

"He went on to say `ive ask for someone to be here for me to take my mind off doing something stupid to hurt myself...`

"In a post dated Oct. 20, just nine days before the shooting, Sweatt wrote about his ongoing legal problems. `i hope tha best but i no im gone for a long time i just hope this judge dont slap me with a whole 45years...` Sweatt wrote.

"Sweatt was most recently arrested for burglary in the early part of 2013 and he was facing a significant amount of time in prison, according to the sheriff.

"Deputies said Sweatt killed three adults and two children along with himself in a murder/suicide at a home off Callison Highway Tuesday. They said Sweatt called 911 to warn them he was planning on `hurting himself` moments before shots were fired.

"While officers were on the way to the scene, according to Greenwood County sheriff's spokesperson John Long, they received notice from the 911 center that a neighbor called and said two children from the home arrived at the neighbor's doorstep saying someone had fired shots.

"After several unsuccessful attempts to communicate with Sweatt, SWAT teams went into the home and discovered the six dead. Long said they believe the incident resulted from a domestic dispute. "

Facebook Post Leads Police To Tragic Scene

"FARMINGTON, MS — Alcorn County authorities are investigating a shooting incident in the Farmington community that left one man dead and an 11-year-old hospitalized with a gunshot wound.

"Sheriff's chief investigator Tommy Hopkins said deputies received a phone call around 11:45 p.m. Tuesday from a woman who became concerned after she read a message on a friend's Facebook page.

"Hopkins said a deputy was sent to a Farmington apartment complex and found the body of 51-year-old Billy Loyd Jr. Loyd's 11-year-old son was found in the same room with a gunshot wound.

"Loyd was pronounced dead at the scene. The boy, whose name has not been released, was in critical condition Thursday at LeBonheur Children's Hospital in Memphis.

"The investigation is continuing.

"`It's such a tragic thing, just a terrible thing,` Hopkins said. `We're still looking into it, trying to find a rhyme or a reason.`

"In closing Loyd gave instructions for his and his son's funeral services and advised anyone reading the note to contact the Alcorn County Sheriff's Department, Hopkins said."
