New Year Good Luck

February 16, 2026
One of my students gifted me a Red Envelope for good luck in the New Year! This is the first time anyone has ever given me one, and it made my day.

Valentine's Day

February 14, 2020

I have never regretted the love I gave away to anyone...not to the ones who loved me back, not to the ones who didn't, not to the ones who suddenly stopped, and not to the ones who faded away slowly, imperceptibly.  I have not regretted giving away love romantically, passionately, familially, or platonically. Put love out into the world, my friends. Happy Valentine's Day, y'all. ❤️❤️❤️

Late Christmas With the Mayes and Gaetje Families

January 2, 2017

Schedules were pretty tight this year, so our Christmas with the cousins happened after the New Year.  It doesn't matter to us; celebrating Christmas is about getting together with family no matter when it happens.  Here are some of my favorite pictures from the trip:

Welcome to 2015!

January 1, 2015

2014 was a pretty good year for me personally and professionally, and it's been a great year for Doug and all the kids, too.  This coming year, with a couple of graduations on the horizon, we are looking forward to even more celebrations.  Doug and I spent our New Year's Eve at Capo's with friends, having great conversation over dinner and then listening to Max Headroom play 80's music until midnight ushered in 2015.  It was a beautiful night!

Fourth of July

July 4, 2013

We had a pretty quiet 4th this year, opting again to stay home and light fireworks out in front of our house instead of going to see the big fireworks show at the stadium. We have a couple of neighbors who also do a little fireworks show out in front of their homes, so we all get to enjoy each others' light shows as well. It's kind of fun that Nicholas is taking on some of the pyrotechnic role, helping out Doug, while Danielle is interested--as I am--in trying to get some good shots of the fireworks.

Easter Sunday With the Family

March 31, 2013

Doug's sister Lisa invited the whole family over to celebrate Easter Sunday together.  Great food, lots of catching up (especially with Bree, who isn't around too often because she lives in San Diego), spending time with family--a great way to spend the afternoon.  Although the weather threatened briefly to turn ugly, Mother Nature was kind enough to wait until late evening to open up the rain clouds, so the afternoon weather was actually quite nice.  As always, and especially anytime my three beautiful children are together, I had my camera out and got some great pictures.  They were laughing together and in great moods, and humored my need to capture them all on film.   (Film?  I guess that's not technically accurate anymore, but you know what I mean.)  I just love how you can see how much fun they were having playing around together.  There is nothing that makes a mom happier than seeing her kids laugh together.
