Bye Bye Binky

It's been a long time coming. But we finally did it. We kept saying for months that it was time to get Karlee off the binky but then we would say maybe next week or next month or after we move, etc. I finally decided it really was time and I snipped off the end of Karlee's binky. That night Karlee put her bink in her mouth and pulled it right back out to check out what was wrong. I said is your binky broken? She said yeah binky broken. She cried for a while the first night and kept saying over and over binky broken. Every morning after we would cut off a little more. She actually looked forward to it in the morning. When I would go get her up she would ask me to cut binky.

Yesterday she kept asking me to cut again and again so I did and then it was gone. All but the hard part. So we decided to have a little celebration. We went to our friend the Roberts and Karlee got to help Rachelle make some cupcakes for her Bye Bye Binky Party. I thought last night might be hard but Karlee did really good and wasn't even sad. I'm glad it went over a lot better than we thought it would.

Staying Busy

We are still really enjoying ourselves here in Williamsburg. We have been so busy with school, coaching, and having fun. Matt spends long hours at the Law school while Karlee and I go to the park, the beach, have play dates, walk around Colonial Williamsburg, etc. It's been good!
Karlee is getting so big, and is turning into a 2 year old. Hopefully this phase doesn't last too long. She is such a little diva. She loves shoes and always wants to wear her sunglasses, necklace, and carry a purse. She has the funniest personality. And we love her to death!

Don't let her cuteness fool you. She's a troublemaker.
One nice thing about where we live is that there is a pond right across the street from our house. Karlee loves going and feeding the ducks. She also loves making new friends with the old people that are also there feeding the ducks. Love the face she is pulling.
There is a cute little beach 10 mins away from our house. It's shady and the water is warm, no waves, no other people but us, it's perfect for little kids. We have only been once but I'm sure we will go back many times. Karlee was afraid of the sand though and the water. After I took this picture she wouldn't get off of the towel.
School is going well for Matt. He is staying really busy. His work load is beginning to pick up a lot so his busyness isn't going to end anytime soon.
I'm enjoying coaching volleyball. Now that we are into the season it's been a lot of fun. The girls are starting to improve so thats always good. They are a lot of fun. Karlee loves the girl that babysits her while I'm at volleyball. What a blessing that is. Karlee never cries when I leave but as soon as it's time for Krystal to go home she gets really sad.

I love to see the temple!

Monday I had the opportunity to go to the Washington D.C. Temple. It was amazing! Our stake was having a stake temple trip and they were providing babysitters and everything so my friend Rachelle and I decided we couldn't pass up this opportunity, even if our husbands didn't get Labor day off of school. So Sunday night we (Rachelle, her two kids, me and Karlee) set out for DC to stay the night with some old friends from Heber the Rose's.

The kids all piled in the back seat. Cora, Karlee, and Canyon. They did really well. Karlee is a little stinker, she's never sat next to other kids in the car before and she really enjoyed bothering the other kids.
It was so nice Monday morning to not have to get up extra early to drive to the temple. We dropped the kids off at the Church right next to the temple. Such a great idea. It was really neat to go inside such a massive temple. It's so beautiful inside and out. All of the detail is so amazing!
After we brought the kids back to go to the visitor's center. We didn't last very long there because Karlee spent the whole time running from room to room. Climbing on the displays.
It was such a good trip. I wish the temple wasn't so far away from us. We really took for granted being so close to so many temples in Utah. But it is definitely worth the sacrifice to go. Both Matt and I were sad that he didn't have school off. We can't wait to go back.

Goodbye Earl, Hello Pneumonia

So with all the anticipation of Earl sweeping through the East Coast over the last 10 days I apparently forgot to prepare myself for what really was coming. . . Pneumonia. Earl did not put on much of a show, a little rain but nothing to get excited about. However, in the recent days I have learned some about what not to do, namely, breathing in water.

This is what I have found on pneumonia:
Pneumonia is a lung infection caused due to the presence of microorganisms like virus, bacteria, fungus and parasites. They enter our body when we breath in small droplets that contain these microorganisms. They may cause infection in either one or both the lungs, leading the person to be diagnosed with pneumonia. Though it is the presence of microorganisms that causes the development of this disease, people who have a very weak immune system (yay that's me) are more prone to have pneumonia. Though, pneumonia cannot spread from person to person, the virus or bacteria causing this disease can be.

The weak immune system line gets me every time. It seems to be the explanation to mono, colds, flu, and anything else that can be contracted. So what caused it - my casual swimming at an apartment complex pool last week with friends? Most likely the culprit. The lesson: Don't breath in (unknowingly) swimming pool water, you may just end up with pneumonia.

The good news. . . I pushed through 3 days of law school with pneumonia without missing a class (don't tell my classmates as they might not have appreciated my presence). The bad news. . . I have to go back tomorrow.
