Preschool & Princesses

The first day of preschool was an exciting one at our house. Olivia had been anxiously awaiting her turn to go to school too, since Ben had gone back a week and a half before.

Marching off to school

The day after preschool started, I took her to see 'Princesses on Ice'. She dressed up in her sleeping beauty dress and wanted me to do her hair straight.

She had been looking forward to going all week. We found our seats and the show got started. About 15 minutes into the show, Olivia turns to me and gives me a huge hug and says "Mommy thank you so much for bringing me."
Priceless!!

Last day of school

Ben's last day of Kindergarten
Ben had his last day of school on Thursday. He is so happy for summer to be here and so am I. I have been wanting a little less schedule and a lot more playing time. Thursday night we went out to dinner to celebrate the last day of school and he got to pick the restaurant. We were talking at dinner about all the things he learned this year and what a great teacher he had. That night he was saying his prayers, when he got chocked up. I asked him why he was sad and he burst into tears and said "I'm going to miss kindergarten!" I gave him a big hug and of coarse started crying too. I asked him what he was going to miss the most and he said "Everything!" I think it had all hit him at once that he wasn't going to see Mrs. Spence everyday. We decided to email her the next day because she was definitely going to be missing him. The next day we sent an email to Mrs. Spence. This is what Ben wrote:

Dear Mrs. Spence,

I miss you but I am excited to be a first grader. I love you and I might invite you over for dinner.

Love,

Ben

I emailed Mrs. Spence that night to tell her how Ben was feeling and what an impact she has had on him. She of coarse emailed Ben back the next day. This is what she wrote:

Dear Ben,

I love you too, and if you do invite me over I will come if it all works out on the date. Have a terrific summer---go swimming lots, make sure you keep reading, see your friends, and have a great trip to Georgia.

Hugs,

Mrs. Spence

I am so grateful that he has had such a good experience this year.

Olivia's last day of preschool at her picnic
Thankfully Will slept through the entire picnic so that Olivia and I could spend a little time just us girls.

First Day of Preschool

Olivia started preschool this year. She had been watching Ben go to school for the last couple of years and was very excited to join in the fun. She had no fear, no anxiety and a lot of enthusiasm for having her very own backpack.

When we got in the car to go to school, she said "STOP!!! I forgot my homework!!!" I'm not sure where on earth she knew to say that. Ben had never forgotten his homework and she definitely had never been assigned homework to forget, but it was funny!

At preschool
No Fear
At the door of Ms. Cramer's class.
I gave her a kiss, told her I loved her and she ran into class. This time, I held it in until I got to the car to breakdown (maybe because I had recently had some practice in leaving a school crying). I called Rick so that he could tell me that it was only 2 mornings a week and I wasn't losing my baby just yet. Once I got off the phone, I started driving with a list of errands I had to run. It was quiet, really quiet. Quiet and wonderful, and I realized that it hadn't been that way in 6 years (since Ben was born). Olivia loves preschool, loves her teachers and really loves saying that she is a big girl. I am loving grocery shopping by myself, at least for a little while.
