Insects and Wildlife

Thursday we made another trip to Proffitt's Porch near Columbus, MS to try to photograph the Eagles that are nesting nearby.  We met a couple of our friends there and after lunch we settled in to watch for the Eagles.  Unfortunately, the adult Eagles never showed up, although we waited from 1:30 until 6:30 in hope of seeing them.  We did see one of the 'babies' in the nest and hope they are doing alright.  The Eaglet that we saw looks as large as the adults, but has not left the nest yet.  It may be that the adults are staying away in hope that the babies will want to fly soon.

Since I didn't want to just sit there waiting, I scouted around to see what else I could photograph.  This green Dragonfly has a small grasshopper type bug under his wing.

I found that there were several different Dragonflies around on the grasses.

The viewing spot is surrounded by water on 3 sides, so there are good places for these insects to live.  This blue/green one is eating something that is on this stem.

There were several small Common Buckeye Butterflies flitting around.

Here is a brown Dragonfly.  Wish I knew the names of all these!

I think the green one is my favorite.

Not an insect!  I encountered this large Terrapin on a trip back to the car.

I think this is called a Skink.   Or maybe it's just a lizard.  He's photogenic but creepy!

With cool temperatures, fair skies, good friends and good food, we had a good time!

                      Today I'm thankful for another safe and fun trip!
