Creepy Crawlies!

We have lots of Creepy Crawling things around our yard. This looks like a little pre-historic monster. He was very small and when I tried to make him run away, he curled up in a ball.

This Dragonfly was amusing as he turned his head from side to side as if watching me.

When I went out to sweep out the garage, I saw this little inch long critter with extra long feelers or antenna sitting on the car. He could turn one antenna around in the opposite direction from the other!

Below is a Silver-sided Skipper. Do you see the 'White Elephant' that Mary was talking about in her post the other day? I tried to draw around it but the drawing doesn't show up much. If you click on the picture, you may be able to see the elephant. His trunk is pointed toward the top left corner of the picture.

There are lots of bees of various kinds visiting the Zinnias. I think this one is what we used to call a 'Good News Bee' when we were kids. I suppose we called them that because they buzzed around us but never stung. That was good news to us!

I climbed up in a chair and then on the brick wall around the porch to get this shot looking down at this Dragonfly. His clear wings were glistening in the morning sunlight.

I'm face to face with this Dragonfly and he looks like he's ready for take-off.

I hope all of your Creepy Crawlers are as harmless as mine!

Camera Critters

This cute little Carolina Wren is my Camera Critter for this week. Sunday as we were about to leave for Sunday School and Church, I heard this bird singing loudly on the back porch. I peeped out the dining room window and saw him sitting on the back of a chair just a few feet away. I got my trusty camera and as he sat there singing, I made about a dozen pictures of him. I think there is only one pair of these here. I usually see them one at the time, but sometimes both of them are out there. He seems to think that the parch and all of the seed and bread crumbs belong to him!

I looked out the window today and saw the Goldfinch sitting peacefully. A few minutes later they were fighting over the perches at the feeder. There are usually about 20 to 30 birds out there at the same time. The next time I looked out they were all gone.

Okay, you've had your share! It's my turn now!

Leave me alone!

These hungry Goldfinch can't eat without fussing at each other!

They seem to sense that the seeds are getting low.

These Goldfinch are resting after the fights at the feeder.

The Chickadee is one of my very favorite birds! I dearly love to hear his cheerful song.

I don't see many Robins this time of the year, but I looked out just in time

to see this one enjoying a drink of water.

The Cardinals are frequent visitors at the feeder. This female Cardinal rushed

in and tried to scare away the smaller birds. They are so much larger

than most of the other birds, no wonder they are afraid of them!

There have been so many Goldfinch at our feeder lately!

I'm looking forward to seeing them in their bright feathers in the Spring.

This Goldfinch seems to say "thank you" for the water.

All their watering places were frozen this morning.

This Goldfinch is reaching down to get a tiny bud.

This little Carolina Wren is one of my favorite birds.

He has a loud and beautiful song that wakes me up in the morning.

It moves so quick, always looking around to see if there is any competition.

If another Wren joins in eating out of the same dish, it fusses loudly.
