Today was a good day. After a week’s slog I got my supervisor’s revisions for my MA thesis complete, and it’s off to my committee - if they approve it, it goes to the external and a defence in April. Hurrah!
Until I got that done, I’ve been putting off opening a few nice things that came in the post this past week, including a parcel from Diplomatist Books. The parcel looked like it had been chewed on a bit by ship’s rats, but proprietor Edwin King had wrapped the books sturdily in cardboard and bubble wrap and they came through quite unharmed. Edwin has just started stocking titles from the History of Wargaming Project and these are two I’ve been wanting to add to my library for some time.

I am quite happy to recommend Diplomatist Books for prompt and efficient service.
Edwin, being a decent chap, also included a small and unexpected bonus, this miniature of Padre George Smith, one of the heroes of Rorke’s Drift. I hope I can make him look half so good as the famous image on him in Alphonese de Neuville’s famous painting.

Thank you, Edwin, for this very kind gift. I look forward to painting him and adding him to my ever-growing collection of padre figures.
