Turmeric harvest

I had 2 medium-sized pots with turmeric growing in them. The tops started to turn brown and dry up. So I decided it was time to check whether I had successfully grown turmeric.

Here is the haul.
Mind you, I still have one big pot to go. So it will be interesting to see what I will find there.

Anyway. Not too bad for a first time turmeric grower, I'd say.

Turmeric #3

The turmeric is doing really well. Especially considering the extremes in weather in the last 2 months!

The big pot out in the garden - remember what it looked like in February? - looks like this now.
This is a pot on the balcony. I planted the turmeric months before the above. However, it only emerged at around the same time as the one in the pot in the garden.

Turmeric #2

The turmeric in the pot has started to grow. It will be interesting to see how big it will get, before autumn (frost) hits. It would be lovely to be able to harvest our own fresh turmeric.

Curries! Yum, yum.

Turmeric

A generous fellow gardener shared his surplus of turmeric with us a while ago. I froze quite a bit, planted some in pots earlier on and left these pieces out to let them sprout.

The ones in the pots haven't done anything yet. But these are looking very good.
Time to put them in a big pot.
Cover with mulch and hope they'll grow nicely and supply us with more fresh turmeric.
We use quite a bit in our cooking, especially in winter when we enjoy our curries most.
