I've had some lovely incoming mail lately!  It was time to get working on some return mail!

Here is some Mona Lisa mail that I sent out to Patti.  I used some collage techniques on this envelope.

Kim is getting this letter from me.  It is another piece I cut out of my Louvre book of art.  I don't remember who the artist is...but I do like this painting.   I tried to pick up on the pale pink of the bow in the stamps.

Incoming Snail Mail: Cute Pink Flip Book

Here is a recent batch of incoming mail.  Isn't it lovely?  I love each and every letter.  I am still behind on replies, but I am working on them, steady, steady  (wins the race)!

 

This delightful letter came with some beautiful stamps, in a clear cello envelope.  Next was the pretty gold foil envelope-- it was like unwrapping a gift under the tree!

Here is the first page flipped open.  Filled with all sorts of goodness and such a pretty pastel palate.

Opening the nest flap  revealed more goodness.

Ah.  The letter.  The "cherry on top"!

Stickers, flower punches, my, my!  I'll have to double check to make sure I have not missed a thing!

 

I will make use of all these cute enclosures.  They are such fun to use or pass on!

Outgoing Snail Mail!

It has been awhile since I last posted some Outgoing...

This is a flip book that is going out to Sharon.  It has been put in a cello bag so it doesn't make a mess in a postal sorting machine.  I made this little folder flip book quite some time ago....here is a blog post that shows the folder being made and a peek at  inside shots!  Blog Post

If you have written me over the last few months...I am working hard to answer you in a joyful , crafty style!  I LOVE writing letters, and I LOVE paper crafting!  I bring the two loves together in my letter writing style.   I really do hate when I get behind , but I will get to your very special letter!

Snail Mail in the NEXT GENERATION!

We can teach them...

And they can teach us a thing or two!

I have received some mail lately from some of my campers that were in my cabin.  I love to post what they have been up to in their very crafty styles.    Here is an envelope crafted by Ella, and I love that she used her wax seal that she got for her birthday!

And just like a seasoned snail mailer, she included a nice chatty letter and some goodies.

This letter is from Miss Grace!  She made a lovely watercolor impressionistic  sunset...I love this!

Grace attended my paper crafting class at camp, She included a craft that I taught this summer..."Flying Letters".  I need to do a blog post on these...they are adorable!

Here it is , gently unfolded.  But look!  She included a mini envelope  (which she made) inside the  one of the folds.  Nice touch, very nice--Grace!

So cute... a little letter is enclosed.  

I am so impressed at the creativity of young people today.  I have letters going out to Ella and Grace.  I am so sorry it took me so long to get back to writing  to everyone.  Thanks for your patience!

Making Envelopes!!

You Can Make Your Own Beautiful Envelopes--It's Easy!

Hello everyone!  It has been quite some time since I have posted about making your own envelopes.  Here is a link to a previous post on home made envelopes:  HERE  I made a batch recently and thought that I would share how I make mine.  I do have a Make a Memory envelope maker but I am still not getting quite the results I would like, so  i'll need to study the youtube videos again.  Until then, I have found that using my trusty Kreate-a-Lope  envelope templates is just so easy!  I can't find any like mine on line, but you can do a search for envelope templates and several show up.

I received my set second hand from my niece, several years ago.  It is constructed of a rather sturdy plastic, not flimsy at all.  It offers several sizes and shapes of envelopes.

The templates come with two pieces.  The large one, is the actual envelope.  the small piece, is the guide to help you fold accurately and to get nice crisp folds.

I used  a roll ofKraft paper which I purchased at Walmart.  I like to line my envelopes .  I used a pad of scrapbooking paper that was 8X8, but the 6X6 would work as well.

Here is the envelope that is cut and folded.  I selected my liner piece, used some glue, and ....

positioned it as you see.  It doesn't not have to cover the whole inside of the envelope.  It will not be seen.

Do you have a favorite purchased envelope?  I find those that I enjoy , then take them apart, trace them on a piece of cardboard, then....voila!!  I have an envelope!

This is a great book that has such fabulous ideas for creative envelope making. It can still be purchased on Amazon.   It is published in a large format, and comes with plastic 3 envelope templates.  I purchased mine used, and it only had 2 of the templates.  The author encourages the use of recycled materials to be your paper source for your envelopes.  

I think these food themed envelopes look absolutely "delicious"!

I had to run out today and purchase some supplies for a paper crafting workshop that I will be doing this week.  When I stopped by A C Moore, I noticed (after I had already checked out) that their super nice (thick like wall paper!) 16 month calendars were on sale for $1--normally $15.99.  They make GREAT envelopes!  So, of course, I got back in line and made my purchase!  What a great frugal find.

I hope that this has been helpful to you.  Go ahead, carefully tear apart your favorite envelope and make your own template--then get busy!  And most of all...have fun.

Do You Know Of Someone Who Needs A Little Push?

I have friends and acquaintances who when the conversation rolls around to my favorite topic (letter writing) act completely befuddled!  When I mention writing a letter or talking about pen pals, they look at me with wide-eyed amazement!   It never ceases to puzzle me that many people today have never thought of writing a letter. Our fast pace, portable electronic device driven world is at a total loss when it comes to writing a letter.  Most people do not have the supplies at hand to compose a thoughtful letter, let alone a crafty, interesting letter.  I think that is how and why I began to develop the complete  Letter Writing Kits that are available at my Etsy store:  LostArtRevived.  I have several themed kits and more to come.  The "Pen Pals" kit is the most popular kit that I offer. Have you ever thought of making your own art work into a postcard to send out?  This particular artwork was by Gilbert B.  Battung,  He sent it to me some time ago.  I wrote him to ask him about his process and if he had any more postcards that he had designed.  I never heard back from him but I wanted to share it with you.    It is his little say about meaningful communication.  I like it!

The Pressed Flower Project

Pressed flowers to add to your letter writing

 

I was shocked to see how paper thin the Hydrangeas became...so delicate and the color was retained so vibrantly.  I hope I can do more of these this year.

Bachelor Buttons are my absolute favorite wild flower...especially the pink ones.  Out here in the country we mainly have the blue ones.    I'm not sure what the little white flowers are, but they are so sweet!

I usually place my pressed flowers inside the letter folded up, but I have tried this arrangement and rather like it.

This turned out nice with the gold doily and the gold wax seal,,,with a purple crocus.  It is so sweetly old fashioned, and just nostalgic.  I love the effect.

Tri-Fold Pocket Letter Tutorial For An Afternoon DIY

Let's Begin!

First, Here is a list of  tools: 

1 sheet of 12 X 12 scrap booking paper, 

A Ruler

Scissors or a scoring tool

pencil

washi tape or some double sided tape.

The 12 X 12 lends itself very nicely to making a trifold as it can be easily divided into thirds.  So at the top and the bottom of my paper, I mark off at 4 inches and 8 inches.

Next, I line up my markings and score along the ruler.  I am using a pair of scissors, but be careful not to press down to hard, or you will cut through the paper.

After you have scored your thirds, then you need to fold up the bottom  of the paper.  Here I folded up about 4 1/2 inches , but you can eyeball it and make the pocket heights as tall or short as you like them to be.

To make the divided pockets, you need to put washi tape down each folded area.  Some washi tape is not very sticky, so I usually put down a bit of glue behind the tape to make it really stick.

So here you have your Tri-Fold  Pocket  Letter.  (This could also go out as an envelope.  You would need to secure it, but it wouldn't necessarily need an additional envelope).  Now you will need to "doll it up" a bit, but I'm going to leave all of that to your GREAT imaginations!  See my previous post for some ideas, or click on my "Labels" in the sidebar  and select :  "Tri-Folds"

What does Quaker Cereal have to do with Snailmail?

Bi-Fold Pocket Letter in Red, White and Blue...

Well, here is another Bi-fold.  I of course started off with the  musical notated card stock.  From here I looked for some  nice contrasting paper and settled on red...then of course I liked the blue paper with it.  The next morning  I was having a bowl of granola cereal and noticed the totally iconic Quaker logo...it was just what my red, white and blue project needed.  So I finished off the box (it was delicious...and yes, there was only one bowl of cereal in the box) and cut the logos out.  

I think it just made my project, what do you think?   So be careful to look over items of everyday use to see if they could potentially  be used in your mail art.

Pressed Flowers...DIY for your snail mail inserts!

Spring is Here!

Spring has sprung here is beautiful, southside Virginia!  My daughter picked these daffodils for me and it reminded me of...

pressing some flowers!  I had picked some of the crocuses  (deep purple, so beautiful!) and headed to my "super professional" flower pressing station!  LOL!  Ha, ha.  Here you have it folks!  Do you have an old copy of Janson and Janson laying around....well then put it to use!  See those wavy pages?There are flowers pressed between those pages.   Just load a few heavy books on top, and here are some of my results.  I will hopefully  share some of my other flowers at a later time.  Honestly, I had forgotten all about these flowers tucked away in these dusty books.  But, that is what you have to do. Forget them.    Come back several months later...or even a year...like I did here.

My technique (if you can call it that) is to get a rather heavy weight of paper--I use church bulletin paper, because Mr. Foster does our church's bulletin each Sunday and we always have left overs.  It is a good weight and can soak up any juices that might leach out in the process, and thereby not harming your book.  I fold it over and place it between the leaves of a book.  It works great!

Here is last year's crocus with some sweet little white wild flowers.

I was stunned when I saw the gorgeousness of these hydrangeas!  It was a total experiment, they are so fluffy to try to press, but look at the results!  They are literally PAPER thin!  And I am always amazed at the  amount of color retained!

Oh, I can't wait to slip this beauty into some one's mail.

Do you remember this old 1885 letter I posted recently?  I think it is so sweet that Mrs. Peyton sent her husband these sweet pressed flowers.  When I opened the letter, I could hardly believe that  they were there...surviving all of these years.   Perhaps one day, one of your letters may survive in an old trunk in some one's attic, and opened and read...will a beautiful  pressed flower be present?  I hope so.  

So go...gather sweet signs of spring and do some pressing today!
