more about Van

van LOVES to read books. if he could have his way, we'd sit with him in this chair all day reading one book after the other. sometimes when he is really quiet, i'll go check on him to find this - him sitting in the chair in his room reading. however, for him to get to these books, he has to have done this...

some about Van

this is how van likes to sleep - with his head completely wrapped up in the blanket. more often than not, when i take it off, his head is all sweaty. i can't imagine it is comfortable to sleep that way, but he likes it.

in other van news, he's a pretty skinny kid. based on my interpretation of the percentile chart, he's more than 90 percent in height and less than 50 for weight. but, i feel like he eats a ridiculous amount of food. i don't really know because i don't have another kid to compare him to, so it could be regular, but to give you an idea, here's what he ate yesterday:
1/2 c. oatmeal (before cooked), 4 oz. yogurt, 1.5 string cheese, 1 banana, 1/2 14 oz. can of pears, 3/4 of an apple, 1/2 of an avocado, 3-4 graham crackers, 1/2 PB sandwich, mixed veggies (mostly the carrots), and 1 tortilla with cheese. that doesn't even count various cereals and crackers throughout the day as well as any food he mooched off of john and my plates.
and that's just a regular day. some days i feel like he's never out of the highchair! :)

14 months

van must have had a growth spurt recently because in the last few days i've noticed how much longer he seems. in fact, he's just acting so much older in general. i guess it's really true that they are only little for a very short period of time. so many things he is doing seem more "little boy" like than "baby" like. well - maybe it's better said that the things he WANTS to do are little boy like, and he gets frustrated that he can't do them yet. like run up the steps at the playground with the other kids. he instead has to settle for throwing himself down the slide. he loves to read books with me, but he wants to climb up to the shelf and select the books himself. i can only imagine what he'll be like when he can actually do the things he wants to!
oh, and he also LOVES to dance. if he hears the stereo on and the song has a decent beat, he takes off to stand right in front of it...

dance, dance, dance
