crazy weekend 'o fun

griff came over to hang out with john and me at the end of his spring break. since we both love anything Roald Dahl, i decided to plan out a weekend where we watch movies and eat food inspired by his books. friday was great. we made two drinks: frobscottle (from the bfg) and butterscotch (charlie and the chocolate factory) and one cake: bruce bogtrotter's cake (from matilda). gotta love the photo of griff with the frobscottle. so, like i said, friday night went superb. saturday was a different story.

so saturday morning we wake up and have a lot of things on our "to do" list. unfortunately all of those plans were quickly derailed as rachel was making breakfast and burned her hand severely enough that it merited a trip to the emergency room. (she was cooking breakfast in a skillet in the oven at 400 degrees and she took it out - using a mit - but turned around a minute or so later to move it to a different location and just grabbed onto the handle - without a mit.) after a shot of morphine and the proper dressing - see photo - we were ready to get back to work. one of the tasks of the day was packing up pretty much all of our belongings and moving them to the
center of our apartment so that on monday, our property management company could come and do a thorough pest spray of our apartment. in order to protect the hand and the gauze, we decided to wrap the whole thing in a pillow case. (notice the fluffy hair - it's not like i could do it very well with just one hand!) the other photo you see is our apartment with all of our stuff in the middle of the floor. sweet huh? needless to say, it was a crazy weekend.

joint birthdays...

you'd never guess these two are siblings, would you?

general conference

for general conference weekend, we headed up to vegas to spend the weekend with the bruderers. after a work event in orange county, we left in the evening and headed up to the state line. we stayed the night at whiskey pete's for a whopping $22. in the morning we finished the rest of the drive. conference was great, we got to hang out with people we love, go to the park, listen to inspired leaders and enjoy great food. what more can you ask for??!?

baseball season begun!

we had the freaking awesome opportunity to go to opening night for the padres this week. not only did we eat some hot dogs, enjoy some peanuts, and get brand spankin' new hats...but the padres won! what more can you ask for??

the making of deep dish pizza

john and decided to try changing up our pizza making routine. john had the superb idea of trying deep dish, instead of the regular kind. we of course trused in cooks illustrated - and were quite pleased with the results.
step one: john is thrilled about dressing his pepperoni pizza.

step two: before going into the oven (the one on the right was tomato and basil). we tried both types of pans and found we liked the metal kind better - in case you were interested.

step three: remove from pans and prepare to eat...yum!
