So long sweet summer

I hate to say it but I am thinking by the school buses and bag packs that I have seen around lately, that summer is meeting its' end. I am devastated by this, although I love the Autumn like I love chocolate. Which is A Whole Lot. Thankfully, my eldest child is putting off his kinder-days for one more year. Phew. Pretty sure next year I will need lots of therapy. And I feel bad that I wished Summer off last year because my belly was filled with Leo. Anyhoo- on top of the carelessness of the season wisping by, I have also been running a Bed n Breakfast at my house for at least a month now (aka, non-stop visitors and houseguests). Oh yeah, and a newly adopted nephew. Needless to say, my allergies (hormones, mother problems) have caused some awesome behavior lately. Like bawling and needing some time out when Keith shaved the boys' heads instead of giving them a normal haircut. Seriously? I think there are better things to cry about. Although, since those boys are my world, I guess not. They still look pretty cute I guess.

I am always afraid that when Keith cuts Benson's hair that it will grow in darker. Oh how I adore his little white hair that feels like hay.

And my Griffey, who has sandy locks with white spots all over it. Just like his Dad. Natural highlights, that are of course fantastic in the summer months. Speaking of hair, mine is crazy long right now. Way longer than it has been in a loooong time. Like dating Keith long. I am still not sick of it, probably because reading sweet hair blogs is my latest obsesh.

Lucky for me, Baby Leo was asleep when the Barber got to work and I told him under no circumstances would we wake up my blond babe for a haircut.

But a few days later, Keith convinced me it was time for the Rooster tail to go, so Leo could someday have hay for hair like his brothers.

I actually think Leo quite enjoyed his little cut. He was way easier to cut than his brothers.

I am loving my mirror reflection in this picture, trying to get my little guy to smile. It didn't happen.

Poor little guy is hairless, but still white-haired. Thank goodness. And believe it or not, he is still adorable. And unlike his brother Benson, he has dark eyelashes. I hate that he looks so old now and can't wait for the hair to grow back. Keith assures me it will come back quickly. He better be right.

Oh summer, you have been good to us. We have enjoyed the sun kissed skin, bike riding, baseball games, late night swims, running outside, daily park visits and overall ease of life that you bring to us. I guess the calendar is forcing us to move on. Will you stay a little longer please? At least long enough to bleach our hair again.

Gryffindor

Sometimes people ask me if we named Griffin after a fraternity group of sorts on Harry Potter. My general reply is, "I wish I would have thought of that." Yes, occasionally we refer to our second child as Gryffindor, but way less now than we did when he was a baby. That little Griff is growing up. I ask him constantly if he will always be my baby and he says he will always be my big boy instead. I guess that will have to work. It is killing him that Benson recently turned five and is so much older than him. A few days he weighed himself (a very very common occurence around here). I told him he was so big after his report of 31 pounds. His next question, "Does that mean I am four now?" Haha. Sweet boy.

Griffin loves to be in charge. He wants so badly to choose who gets to say the prayer (too bad kid, that is dad's job) and he is not a huge fan of me telling him what to do. We can have some pretty awesome power struggles around here, so I have to constantly remind myself of how to parent him. He is a lot of work, but so worth it. I love this second child of mine and I love watching him grow up, kind of. Actually I kind of hate it.

Here are a few recent pictures of Gryffindor:

Falling asleep at the family reunion at Bear Lake. Sitting up. In the middle of the day. After finishing a pudding cup (note the stache). I love this kid's hair. Brown with blonde all around the edges. He has natural highlights, just like his dad.

I am loving that he recently learned to smile semi-normal for a picture. Here we are at the OWLZ game. I love watching him sit there dipping his fries in ketchup.

Griffin is a little accident prone. This has been the worst injury at our house to date. Benson may or may have not scooched Griffin off the golf cart, while it was moving. Griff may or may not have landed on the cement, on his head. No, I was not there (Keith takes the boys golfing all the time, this was not their first "incident"). He had three quarter sized injuries on his head. It was terrifying to say the least, but he is all better now.

Griffin mentions "the farm" or "the dinosaur museum" in every prayer. No one loves a good adventure more than this boy. He recently has had his first experiences with feeling left out. Benson was invited on a campout with the neighbors that Griffin was too little to go on and Benson got a birthday invite that Griffin didn't. It broke his heart (and mine). We cried tears together and tried to enjoy our time alone together. I love having him alone (well Leo is still there).

Oh Keith Jr. You melt me.

I am grateful you aren't four. . .yet.

7 years of wedded bliss!

In some ways I cannot believe that today (August 13) is our seventh wedding anniversary. I still feel like a newlywed, and at the same time I barely remember life before Keith. Kinda like he has always been a part of it. Keith makes all my wildest dreams come true. He is my favorite. My match. He makes me laugh. He makes me cry (in a good way). He is wicked hot. He is the hardest worker ever. Ever. He is smart, sometimes too smart and I have no idea what he is talking about. He loves to be the hero, and I love to let him be. He is hilarious. He is the spiritual leader of our home. He has a wonderful spirit about him. He is the most generous person I have ever known. He has a strong, solid testimony. He is a missionary. There is nothing he can't do. He's a farmer. He is an engineer. He is the best dad that three little boys could ask for. He is my most bestest friend. He is my husband. I am one lucky girl. I am so glad that he decided to ask me to marry him.

This picture is totally random, but I just found it on Keith's computer and had to post it. I think I had Leo about 2 weeks after this. I am putting it on here because Keith prefers me this way. Pregnant.

Another random picture from my computer, one of our Christmas cards. He is such a good sport for all of my picture taking requests.

Here we are as young chickens blessing Baby Benson. Nothing is more fun than watching your husband become a dad.

And here we are now. 7 years later and oh so in love.

Sometimes I think we look like brother and sister. Pretty funny.

I wish everyone could be married to Keith! He is awesome. I am so glad he is mine.

I swear we have the most fun! There is no name I love more. Love you Keith! Happy Anniversary to us!

Wendy and the cousins came to play!

Aunt Wendy and her sweet kiddos came for a visit in July. We had such a fun week. We laughed a lot about how when she used to come, it was crazy and a lot of work. Together, we had a young toddler and four tiny kids in diapers. It was always extremely loud and intense when she came and we would almost die from exhaustion. This time, the kids played and played and played and we held Leo and Wendy tried to teach me how to craft. We also managed to get a babysitter and go to Harry Potter 7.2 (loved it) and we took all the kiddos to see Kung Fu Panda 2. We had a blast and I love having her come and visit. I keep trying to convince her to move here and be my neighbor. Maybe someday.

Look at all these cute boys. Matthew is almost eight! I can hardly believe it. He was my favorite little buddy when he was little and loads of fun now. It is so fun watching him grow up. He is so smart.

I guess if I can't seem to have any girls, it is fun to be an aunt to girls. Ella and Sophie are so adorable. And they are the sweetest little girls.
Wendy is such a good mom and has always loved babies. She basically takes care of Leo the whole time she comes, since she claims her baby-having days are over. Leo loved her of course. And isn't she the prettiest girl you've ever seen?

All the cousins. Obviously, we spent a lot of time at the pool. We were constantly counting to make sure all the kiddos were accounted for. The love each other so much.

The big kids! Their faces say it all, oh they love each other and they like to have fun!

Will you guys move here already?

The Latest on Little Leo

Leo Curtis is already 9 1/2 months old. I can hardly believe it. He is a little squirt, weighing just over 15 lbs (the 3rd %, whatever that means), although his height is pretty normal and his head too! He is so wonderful! I want him to stay this way forever and forever. Here are some cute things about Baby Leo.

  • He does a cute little push-up scoot, still no crawling. Woohoo!

  • He is very limber and often does the splits when going from sitting to scooting.

  • He is a pretty consistent night sleeper, and sleeps from 7:30 pm until 7:30 am the next morning. I still swaddle his lower half, but he moves all around the crib.

  • He takes two, two hour naps a day.

  • He is SO OVER baby food, and wants to eat whatever we are having. His favorite? Cheese! Chicken! Or a drink, he goes crazy for cups, straws and sippees.

  • He has four teeth. The two on bottom, one top front and one top side. He currently looks pretty funny, but the other ones will come soon because his mouth is a big swollen mess.

  • He loves his brothers.

  • He wakes up very very happy and kicks and kicks when you go to get him.

  • He claps with his feet (he just learned to clap with his hands too).

  • He likes to hold his own bottle.

  • He loves his mom and dad equally I think. He always go crazy when Keith gets him, but is just as excited to come back to me.

  • He still doesn't have stranger anxiety and will smile big at anyone who smiles at him.

  • He will play with anything you give him. His favorite is paper. The other day I let him go crazy with an Ensign magazine. I've never seen a happier kid.

  • If he is ever fussy, generally putting him down and letting him play is what he wants.

  • He is such a happy boy.

  • He is our first, non blue-eyed baby. I believe they will be green. And he has long, curly eyelashes.

Here is the most recent picture of him, waiting for a banana cream pie shake from Sammy's.

Here we are snuggling the toothaches away.
Benson took most of these pictures. He is a little photographer and I always find him with my camera or phone in his hand. Here I am contemplating taking the binkie away. I did, and then I gave it back because he got sick and we were going out of town. He still gets it in his bed occasionally. I guess I need to take it away again.

He always puts his arms out like this when he is happy!

He is a crazy man and scoots all around and blows bubbles. I think we may have another fish on our hands. And looks a lot like his older bro Benson.

He is definitely a blondie.

I love his little $5 Wal-mart jammies that have a Lion on them. Leo means Lion ya know.

Here is our little monkey holding his bottle with his feet.

Look at those cheeks.

We call this "active stance" in the stroller. I remember when all my boys started doing this. Here he is watching his brothers do the bouncy houses, just wishing he could join them. See the longing look in his eyes?

We love you Leo!

Independence Day 2011

Back to posting . . . I know these are all out of order, but at least I am catching up right?!

Every year we try our darndest to make it to Logan for the Fireworks. It is fun to go home (we both lived there for a while, just Keith much longer) and be with our family. The fireworks show in Logan generally has pretty awesome entertainment before they start. Ya know, like beauty queens singing country songs, primary kids walking around holding American flags, stuff like that. This year they totally stepped it up and had lots of rad entertainment including Diamond Rio. Even though I can't really stand country music at all, they were pretty fun to listen to. They also had an awesome orchestra and choir. The fireworks were amazing too. It is one of the highlights of my year. LOVE it! And I love going back each year and reminiscing about prior years. We went here when we were just engaged, and this year we came with three kiddos in tow.

Here is Keith and I fake smiling for the camera.

Our family attempting to take a picture. I love dressing up in red white and blue. And matching shirts for the boys, of course.
A big thanks to Mary who convinced us a few years ago that we need to come each year. Love her!

Me and the older boys . . . who were so old that they didn't even need to be held during the fireworks display. It was pretty sad to only have to snuggle Leo (who slept during them), because our big boys weren't scared.

I sure love our country. And Logan. Can't wait for next year!

Benson is FIVE

Benson Keith was born in the afternoon of August 10, 2006 in Abilene, Texas. He weighed 7 lb, 12 oz. I had to be induced, because I had been dilated to a three for three whole weeks and was starting to get sick. I remember walking with Keith in the parking lot of the hospital at 5:00 am and we were so dang giddy to become parents. After wimping through some weak pitocin contractions, I got an epidural and anxiously awaited his arrival by shaking and shivering, playing skip-bo and watching endless episodes of Saved By The Bell. I remember being in awe of having medicine to stop the pain, but still being able to feel the dr. check my progress. I was so excited when it came time to push. It was amazing I could tell when it was time for him to come. I pushed for close to an hour and Dr. Mascorro held up my sweet little blonde cone-headed baby and I just hoped he was actually alive. He was so chubby at birth and very very calm. He almost immediately nursed and knew exactly what to do. We named him Benson Keith.

While the nurses and Keith went to bathe him, I noticed a gushing of blood. Although, I figured this was normal, I asked the nurse to check. When she lifted my sheet, she gasped and called the Dr. Next she weighed the amount of blood I was losing, and said that it was close to that of someone having a c-section. Soon there were Dr.'s and nurses everywhere. Keith came in to discover a frenzy, but he remained calm. Keith is the bomb at being a labor/coach/partner. I got shots in my legs, and medicine shoved down my throat. Soon I was throwing up like crazy and had lost all digestive control (that's a nice way of saying I was seriously pooing everywhere). Luckily I was heavily drugged and have very few blurry memories of this time. For some reason, my uterus did not contract after birth and I was not in very good shape. I remember after all of the hullabaloo, holding Benson and asking Keith to take him because I was way too drowsy to be holding a baby. After a few extra days in the hospital, we took our sweet bundle home. You would think after having such a traumatic experience like that, I would consider myself lucky with my one little guy, but he was so wonderful I immediately wanted more. I remember sitting in my chair just staring at him, hoping I would find the strength to set him down. He was so amazing. He was the calmest, most mellow baby ever born and to this day brings me such a sense of calm. I am so blessed to be his mom.

For some reason, having a FIVE year old makes me feel very old. Like I don't just have little tiny toddlers anymore, I have a big kid. Even though Benson could technically go to school this year, I am keeping him home one more year. Mostly because sending him to school sounds terrifying and well, old. I am so glad I get another year to keep this little boy home. I am not even sending him to preschool.

Griffin woke me up bright and early on August 10, 2011 by telling me he needed to throw up. So awesome. He was a pretty sick boy, but wouldn't miss the party. I strongly considered cancelling it, but realized everyone coming had been around Griffin in the days prior, so if they were going to get sick, they were going to get sick. Luckily Keith's mom came to visit and was a HUGE help. I couldn't have done it without her. This is Griff's GQ pose, by the way.

The party was "sports themed." Benson wanted Star Wars but I am a mean mom and said no, because I had a hard time finding Star Wars stuff. The first game, we threw bean bags onto ball stickers.

It did not take long before everyone began cheating. Griff was definitely the biggest cheater of them all.

I held the treat bags and when the kids' bean bags landed on a ball, they got to pick a candy.

Next, we hit the pinata I made all by myself. It was hideous, but rad. I was so proud of my dinosaur egg/sports ball wrapped pinata. Seriously, why don't I have a craft gene?

All of Benson's wildest dreams came true with the pinata. He was so stoked. That made all the hours of paper machet and wanting to kill Keith for dripping flour water all over my freshly mopped floor worth it. Kind of.

Griffin loved the pinata too.

Next, we opened presents. How about my man-hand in this picture? Yikes. I seriously hate toys. I think in the future I am going to write Bring Cash Only on the invitations. Would that be tacky?

We were going to only have boys at this year's party, but we couldn't leave out Eliza and Awny.

I kind of slacked on making a sweet cake this year, but my MIL and I made about 100 cake pops with the boys.

Overall, the party was a big hit. No one likes to party more than Benson. He is the best boy ever! I am so grateful he is in our family and our oldest child. He sets the bar pretty high. Here are some other fun facts about Benson at his current age:

  • He weighs 35 lbs, aka, he is a twig.

  • He is 43 inches tall.

  • He loves to play video games and watch tv.

  • He rides a two wheeler and a scooter really well.

  • He can swim the whole length of the swimming pool, actually he has been able to do this for a while now. He is a little fish and loves to be underwater. He can swim to the bottom of our 10 foot pool. It's incredible to watch.

  • He loves to go golfing with Keith.

  • He will play soccer again in the Fall and can't wait.

  • He loves to eat fruit. And chocolate.

  • He can write all of his letters, but does not like to work on them.

  • He is the most social child ever born and will chat it up with anyone.

  • Some cute things he says, instead of "behind" he says "on-a-hind." Instead of "haircut" or "hotdog" he says "wherecut" or "whatdog." He asks for a "cheesadilla" instead of quesadilla. He adds the word even to just about every sentence. And totally. And guess what. And, I want to tell you something.

  • He disciplines himself. If he is ever in trouble, he feels so bad, you generally have to console him for quite some time.

  • He always eats with a napkin.

  • He wears a white shirt to church each week.

  • He has good rhythm and can sing exactly on pitch.

  • He is perfect.

  • The End

We love you Benson!
