75 Days of Summer Fun #26 - Hanging Out Around Camp

We enjoyed every minute of our adventure. Here's a sampling of the fun around our campsite...

We roasted marshmallows, ate dutch oven peach cobbler, and cooked biscuits on a stick.

We painted rocks...

We sat around enjoying the BEAUTIFUL weather, played charades, and sang songs around the campfire...

We played...

Time for some trouble making...Levi is on the lookout for the Three Muskateers.

Colton hanging out with the camp host. I imagine a summer of climbing up and down the mountain that was our campsite would make me bring along a golf cart also.

75 Days of Summer Fun #25 - Grand Mesa Discovery Trail

Our first adventure was hiking the Grand Mesa Discovery Trail. All along the trail there are stops where Corbin read from a pamphlet teaching us about the ecology of the area. It was a quick little hike, perfect for adjusting to the altitude and mosquitoes.

75 Days of Summer Fun #24 - Camping with Cousins

We met my sister, Mindy, and her family in Grand Mesa for 4 wonderful days of outdoor adventure. In spite of the terrible mosquitoes, we had a great time hiking, cooking, canoeing and more.
We stayed at the Island Lake campground, complete with new bathrooms and tent sites. The sites were beautiful.

My sister's site is to the left at the Jeep and ours was further down the road to the left of the mini-van. We had a little path that connected our cooking areas and plenty of space for WILD cousins to play.

The view from our campsites... Beautiful!!

75 Days of Summer Fun #23 - PetCo

I took my Brownie troop on a field trip to PetCo for the Fins, Fur and Feathers program. The kids learned about different pets, how to care for them, and how to be safe around them. They loved the ferrets (they gave me the creeps) and the turtles (oh, my, all those germs!).

I am so HAPPY that we don't have any pets right now! What was I thinking when I promised a dog after I graduate and get a nursing job?

75 Days of Summer Fun #22 - Independence Day

This year our 4th of July included 3 things - rain, swimming, and more rain. Oh, wait, that's only two things...

We went to my brother-in-law's for a BBQ after church. Paul and the kids didn't mind the cold and rain and they swam anyway. I did not...too cold for me.

We attempted to go see fireworks. We got in the car. We drove. We waited. It started raining, again. We sat some more. It rained harder. It got windy. We saw a few random fireworks, but never saw "THE" show. Just a black, dark sky. We left. Bummer. I LOVE fireworks.

75 Days of Summer Fun #21 - More wood...

We love going to the free kids workshops at Home Depot and Lowe's. On this day, we made periscopes. They are cool!

75 Days of Summer Fun #20 - Girl Scout Day Camp

Lexi, Levi and I attended a week-long Girl Scout Day camp from June 28-July 2 at the Plains Conservation Center. It was hot, dry, and FUN! Levi loved his "Tagalong" unit, and Lexi loved making new friends in her unit. I didn't get very many pictures of my kiddos because I was assigned to be a unit leader of another group.

Visiting the Native American teepees and learning about native plants

Learning about patriotism and respect for the flag.
(In the third picture, Lexi is holding the front corner of the flag.)

We did a lot of crafts! Our session was called, "Crafts on the Prairie."
We took a wagon ride across the prairie and saw pronghorn, prairie dogs, birds, snakes, and more.
We went to the sod village and attended a day of school in 1892. Boy, that school marm - she was mean. But the school was cool - completely made of sod! There is also a sod house, barn, and blacksmith shop.

The worst part of camp was this guy...even in a huge trash can, he gave me the willies! Yuck!
We made lots of new friends!
We had a GREAT week! Hot, but fun!
I'm thinking next year we should go to a camp that has more shade...
