Lazy Fall Decorating

This year I decided to approach my Halloween decorating a little differently.
For years I would spend an entire day (or two) hauling out and putting up all of my decorations for Halloween, then the days after the holiday I would put things away just to haul out and put up my Thanksgiving decor. I noticed the past few years I would hit decorator burn-out before December which made Christmas decorating more of a chore than a pleasure.

It made me sad to not enjoy the process of making my home pretty for all the holidays. So I decided to change things up and this year decorate for Halloween with Thanksgiving in mind.
My dining room shelf will easily be transformed by simply removing the crows and gold spiders.

For a quick change I only need to ditch the spider and mouse in this sweet scene.

And by removing the fuzzy little owl and the numbers on the pumpkin this vignette will show off through Thanksgiving day. With this lazy fall decorating idea I find myself looking forward to decorating for the upcoming holidays.
Wishing you creative ways
to ENJOY holiday decorating
in your home!

Fun Creepy Crawlies

I think it's fun to have spiders in the house this time of year...as long as they are the plastic variety. Here's a couple of ways I've used the creepy crawlies in my Halloween decorating.

With a little hot glue attach a magnet to the underside of the spider, let dry and arrange them in a line on the corners of the walls. They adhere to the metal corner where the sheetrock meets.
Give ugly dollar store spiders a glam makeover using a little gold spray paint. Added in among fall leaves they look spooktacular!

I'm Baaaaaaack!

Oh Goodness! It seems that I took an unintentional hiatus from blogging. I've missed it and YOU! But I just needed to let something go in order to focus on the needs of our family. I truly appreciate your concern and kindness. Thank you!
It only seems fitting that since I left three months ago with a mantle post that I should come back with one.
 Here's my Halloween mantle.
A bit more sparkly than spooky but I still included a few spiders and a glam skeleton

A Murder of Crows

The crow has been a staple in my
Halloween decorating for years.
This year I filled my mantle with them.
We now have a murder of crows
staring at us as we watch tv.
It can be a bit eerie having all of
those eyes staring at you at night.

Witch Door

I had a lot of fun decorating my front porch for Halloween
I was inspired by a photo that I saw years ago.
I wanted to put my own take on the fun idea
of witch legs in an urn.
I gathered my supplies: striped nylons, stuffing,
pipe from the plumbing department,
and some thrifted boots.
I wrapped the pipe with the stuffing and then stuck them into the nylons.
Once I secured the legs into the urn,
I plopped in a huge mum and
topped it with a witch hat held up by a stick.

It looked real enough to scare my scaredy cat.

Spooky Greetings And a Gift Card Winner

I have been slow to decorate for Halloween. It seems that the old wife's tale that death comes in threes is true for our family. My sweet mother's loving husband recently passed and things have been difficult. We miss him dearly!
But I have learned that one of the best ways for me to take my mind off of my troubles is to beautify my surroundings.
I started with these terracotta pumpkins that I've had for years.
They needed a little updating and since my favorite color of late is gray that's the color they became. A spritz of black glitter gave them a little glam.I paired them up with bright green lanterns and grocery store pumpkins. Then I filled an urn with some dead branches where crows can rest.A spider is feeling at home too.The frame got a spray paint makeover to match the lanterns. And now my porch is ready for the season.I am excited to announce that "Little Old Me" was randomly selected to receive the $100 Wal*Mart gift card. Congratulations! Please email me so I can pass on your information.

A Little More Spooking

Oh my, it's been a while since I posted!
If they were giving out awards for bloggers I think that I would certainly be in the running for The Slacker Award. Real life has a way of interrupting my creativity and blogging, as I'm sure it does for you too. And so, in an effort to avoid the notorious award, I am posting a few Halloween photos from around my home---because if I waited much longer I truly would be awarded The Slacker (hmmm, I'm trying to envision just how that award would look).I hope you enjoy seeing some of the feathered and long-legged friends that have invaded our house.
Happy Halloween Weekend To You!!!

Crooked and Scattered

You might think with that title that I'm talking about my mind (which on certain days could apply) but I'm talking about the ease of decorating
a Halloween mantle.
All it takes to make a fun mantle is
a few crooked old frames and signs.
A scattering of books And crowsAnd pumpkinsBrown bottles and whatever else tickles your fancy. And you have an awesome mantle
ready for spooking.
