Winter, season welcome? - a Poem for dVerse Quadrille

["Freezing rain", ©  Jimmiehov 2007]

Season not favored;

or is it?

Season for which

I have mixed feelings

Winter is coming

A little freezing rain

once in a blue moon

But more often than not

there'll be no snow, be

only rain or

freezing cold

Is though, little bit fun

to play when snow comes

At Early Moon -- a dVerse Prosery Piece

.
[click picture for a very large size view]
. . .
Journey into the Trees

"An early moon is just a piece of change in the softening sky." **   Standing on the bridge squinting my eyes in the waning light I could see into the trees.

There a little brown monkey just weaned from his mother, a beggar bedded down for the night, and swarms of mosquitoes who greeted me. They invited me into their little forest, I willingly went.

Quite an adventure for me, my eyes gradually adapted to the dim. The monkey had playthings scattered beyond his rug, the beggar was swigging a bottle of cheap gin, and none of those mosquitoes would bite.

Playing interrupted there came visitors, Mama Monkey and Beggar's Wife with chicken sandwiches and a can of Bactine. Though we had nothing, not one thing, in common we became best of friends. In the tree shadowed moonlight never to be seen except by me.

Scary writing? -- a Moon inspiration for my biting, howling and writing at the Friday Writings

“Blood is really warm, it’s like drinking hot chocolate but with more screaming.”
Zombie Haiku: Good Poetry for Your… Brains, by Ryan Mecum

    It's My Moon Tonight

The moon, my moon
It's time for the Hunter's Blood Moon
When full like that,
red and bloody and very full

My time, my moon
Come Hunter's Blood Moon, fangs are out
I hunt and hunt
Hunt, a lady just right for me

Look my way please
Lady you are my kind tonight
Your lovely neck
I'll bite your neck and draw red blood

Biting ladies
Then drawing me some sweet hot blood
That makes me howl
Howl at the moon and bite some more

Biting, howling
Hunter's Blood Moon, Hunter's lady

The Sunday Muse -- Time's Big Change

Doom

The Moon shone brightly, storm was gone
One small cloud stayed for company
Both had hope for the universe
All others fled there were no stars

The moon the cloud and one lone bird
Just those three and oodles of wet
Old Sol was spewing fire brimstone
Puking like a drunken old man

The bird ignorant it played dumb
The Moon was tired and growing dim
The fluffed cloud was seeking a lamb
The Sun nearly emptied his gut

After that it was all lights out
One cloud to float away, bird dies

NaPoWriMo 2021 Day 17 -- Moon Howling

Come Howl with Me

The Moon is full tonight

Watch it in the east as

it rises big and bright

Over the horizon

Just as twilight begins

Howling time begins when

Comes the hour of Midnight

The foxes and the wolves

Give us a sendoff clue

When it's just right for you

Auool, auool, auool, auool

My howling will never cease

Howling until wolves do stop

Followed by the foxes,

Coyotes and dogs everywhere

Do I grow fangs at midnight

On their necks women to bite

Lean in. Accept the moon. The moon just wants what’s best for you and your poems. So yes – write a poem that is about, or that involves, the moon.

 - The Lone Wolf has been in our family, since when I don't know, before I was born.  My sister, Lois (read of her), was always afraid of that wolf.  I have it now and just finished taking it's picture for you.

Walking and Seeing ~~ A Mini Poem for Sunday

Walking in the moonlight with Mom;
"I can see the great uncomplicated thing"

We'd go walk around the block Mom and me
A little girl, about five I would guess
Maybe four or six, can't remember well
The Moon was bright, fuzzy as usual
Remember the night, last time for a bit

Then one evening we went again, us two
Moon was bright, I could see the sidewalk cracks
Next remembered looking up, sight to see!
"Mother, I can see the Man in the Moon!"
"Uncomplicated Things" doctors can fix

 - Kelly's instructions are, "This weekend, our frame of reference is "Uncomplicated Things" - from the second line of the poem, The Moon, by Leonard Cohen. "  Then build a short mini-poem around that line as inspiration, ten lines or less (I have ten lines).
 - Notes:
 - - In a couple of places I purposely confused the correct form of pronouns (note especially for a certain daughter, then for my sister, and for other unnamed ladies, who are keepers of the straight)

 - I have deleted a small amount of text, third line from Cohen's poem as it was unsuitable for some of my younger readers.

 - - The "Moon Jar" pictured above was made by pottery artist, Helen Garriott.  This jar and companion "Sun Jar" were of limited production, each one handcrafted. (previously posted in 2008 and 2010 in my other blog - link).  Helen Garriott (link) was the wife of Owen Garriott (link), Sky Lab Astronaut and is mother of Richard Garriott (link) who is a civilian who paid his own way to ride up the Space Lab.

 - - The cougar behind is a print by Charles Fracé, a nature painting artist. Mine is autographed by him, "To: Jim", and represents my college, The University of Houston, and its athletes, the Houston Cougars. Mrs. Jim gave me the picture after having it so nicely framed.
