NaPoWriMo 2017, Day 8 -- My Place -- A Saturday Morning Poem

my Place

My place? I have no place

There's no place of solace for me

Oh there are places I can go

But none that I can call my own

 

There' no place just for me

But back when I was very young

There was such a place I could go

Down by the creek half mile away

 

On the southeast corner

Of Dad's farm it was, habitat

A place where wildlife spent their years

And I could come for afternoons

 

A place for me to sit

A place where I could run, deer-like

A place where I could be naked

And do what I liked, even smoke

 

Now it's not my place, mine

That place remains, 'twas me who left

I tried to carry it with me

I have a home but not a place

 

In younger years, almost

I'd ride my scooter up and down

Roads either side the Rio Grande

Now it's my ragtop old Mustang

 

It's not like younger days

Still try. I have a room, study

But it's in my home, one I share

I have no place to go away

 

My place? It's in my head

In my heart, there's a younger day
Mustn't let those days slip away. 
I may go and there I may stay

Big Owl Sits 

 

Big owl sits by pool

On duty all day and night

Scaring birds away

 

Bird bath it's not

But when they catch him sleeping 

Time for hot tub bath

Kerry would like us to write our poem after 'grazing' through some of the artist, Kaoru Kawano, and write what might come to mind.  I am also gazing out the back window beside me and seeing the blackbirds using our hot tub as a bird bath. 

 

Supposedly we can place a sculptured owl near the birds will stay away.  Some say it work, some say not.  I found this owl print in his portfolio on the WikiArt Internet site ( https://www.wikiart.org/en/kaoru-kawano ).

NaPoWriMo 2017-06 -- a Children's Poem for the Young

 

 

Henry and the Pansies

 

Henry was up late last night

Munching from Grandpa's pansies

 

Henry slept in this morning

Still full of Grandpa's tasties.  

Grandpa went to his garden

He'd water before the sun

He found a mess, almost cried

Now what have those rabbits done

 

Grandma said they've eaten bad

They ate most of your pansies   

Grandpa did cry knowing that

What to do, they're not candies

 

Both put their heads together

Grandma said, think I've got it

 

Grandpa wrung his hands, waiting

Waiting for Grandma, say what

 

We can build them a shelter

A nice place where they can eat

 

And come sleep, Grandpa added

Then they made a hutch for them 

 

A hangout for the bunnies

They could eat and sleep and dream

 

Henry was happy, he laughed

Grandpa laughed and Grandma smiled

 

And Grandpa's pansies were saved

NaPoWriMo 2017-05 -- a Poem about SpaceTime plus

The prompt today is to write about space time
We know more than we think, we use it all the time
Meet you on the corner of Elm and Broad
There we have space, two dimensions, Elm, Broad 
 
And they intersect only in one place 
Trouble. It's a seven story building 
Oh yes, don't forget there's a basement too
Add another dimension, height. Fifth floor 

Fine.  Shall we wait there all day, bring a book
No, we will meet there at noon for our lunch 
Add still another dimension, time, twelve
Surely that's enough, space and time, 4D 
 
It would be enough, space and time. Let's change
We'll not meet If it gets too hot or cold 
Not over eighty or under sixty
5D, Oak, Elm, floor, time, and temperature

I've illustrated, formula is yours 
You make, use x,y,z,t,and t'

NaPoWriMo 2017-03 -- an April's Ways Poem

April;

Wintered Survivors' Sounds and Thoughts

 

I was thinking about the frostbite

Our plants suffered this January
Sitting on the deck, getting some sun
Thoughts drifting, sun also damages

 

I was hearing voices, squeaky ones
Near baby talk, think three-year-old child
Now and then muffled sobs emitting
Oh dear, oh dear, what has Mother done

 

Lovely Lady in orange is gone
So pretty, she stood erect all day
And Purple Violet lost her limbs
Aunt Oleander we thought she'd gone

 

Opening my left eye I noticed

Plants and flowers, their lips seemed to move 
Pointing here, there, Lady's been replaced
Violet too, Vincas now, pink and white

 Old Lovely Lady,

got frozen to the ground

Oleanders edges by the fence 

Amputated sprouts, growing some new

Opening other eye, all was calm

The plants now still, their message given
