Letter "Z" ~~ Friday's Weekend Roundup 10 / Reflections and-or Street/Candid Captures
- Tom's prompt this week Prompts A word that has a "Z." A Favorite. Looks like "Z."
Starts with the Letter "Z": Zebra starts with the letter "Z" as the first letter. We saw these in South Africa at a game preserve southeast of Cape Town. (Note: this picture was also my "Z" word for June, 2020. I just wanted to show them off again here.)
Looks like "Z": Roger, our Colorado host, asked me to take a picture of his 'worm fence.' Worm fence posts are not anchored in the ground. Instead, the design of the fence with it zigzag pattern holds itself up. Also, there are no nails or bolts used. Drilling into the rocky soil for fence posts can be done but it is really hard on the equipment. And because the rocks must be dodged, the fence won't be straight anyway.

A Favorite : Too bad I didn't find his dog's picture for the letter "X" week, it has "X's" pictures of the porch railing support all over.

Letter "T" --- Friday's Weekend Roundup 10 / Reflections and-or Street/Candid Captures

A hint: Besides "Terrific" though they are.
The couple you see in these pictures were our Texas
next-door neighbor until they moved to Colorado.
First we went to Mountain Village where we parked our car. Then we would have lunch at the Peaks Resort & Golden Door Spa, Hotel Telluride. Below is the outdoor patio eating area, as we had Luke with us this day, we would go to the patio for eating.
Lunch was excellent, every one of us had different orders.
Mine was the best! But now I couldn't take bites or chew
it up. Take care of your teeth!! I did but I have outlived
my uppers.
Our drinks were Arnold Palmers and water.
The Arnold Palmer is becoming quite popular,
it consists of unsweetened ice tea and lemonade,
half and half.
Luke would be good in France. He just stayed nearby
or under the table while we ate.
That wouldn't work right now for Adi and Katrin,
they stand looking at us with big eyes and drooling!
Isn't the view from our table fabulous!
Next summer we might bring golf clubs.

Mrs. Jim caught the first car, but they wouldn't let dogs on this one.
She was waiting for us on a bench when we got to the top.
At the top, we entered another cable lift to go down
to Telluride at the bottom on the other side of the mountain.

A Favorite: The view down and out was my Favorite scenery there around Telluride.

Letter "Z" -- -- Weekend Roundup and Reflections/People on the Street
MERRY CHRISTMAS!!! and
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!
For the 26th letter time, The Week's Prompts are Christmas, A Favorite, and "Red and Green". The letter not asked for would be "Z".

Christmas: Our Christmas Tree lighted. It's a seven-foot store bought artificial. Also Red and Green.
At the foot of the tree is a manger scene, a Fisher Price "toy". It represents the purpose of tomorrow's holiday, celebrating the human birth of Jesus Christ. Christians celebrate it on December 25 regardless of the actual birth date. (Click here for viewing other nativity word posts)
Hence the song that we sang over and over in my country schools, grades one through ten:

Another Lagniappe: my favorite "Z" Words are

3. Zoo (not necessarily in that order; plus there may be other favorites that I have not mentioned.)
I am showing you a fence owned by my friend who has a "little ranch" near Telluride in Colorado.
Today I like best "zig-zag" as a zig-zag fence appeals to the hidden rocket scientist nature in me.
They can be freestanding without the use of buried fence posts. A section can be removed and put back for access/entrance without damage to the fence. Lastly on my short list is that their rustic looking appearance appeals to me.
- This fence belonged to my friend and neighbor before we moved to Katy. It was on his Colorado ranch and was there before he acquired the property.
He was a retired major oil company CEO who started in the Chemistry lab of the company when he graduated with his degree, a PhD in Chemistry.
A Reflection or a Street Photo Capture: during a little bit of Christmas shopping I had to use this restaurant. The store had two, both "any gender" per the sign.
It's been a long time since I've rated a relief facility but this on would have been a Zero except that scale goes from one to five. I RATE THIS ONE A ONE.
Another Lagniappe: Below, is the last full posting on this blog for the year, the following post is from 15 years ago. I started it in December 2005 but the picture and text below are from January 2006, it was Adi's, our beagle dog's, first of many on this blog. She was also on some of my other blogs here and there.
Incidentally, this blog has 2,257 posts, 884 draft posts, for a total of 3,140 writings. It has 18,690 comments with 710,899 hits. Quite a few families and friends read it and tell me about their viewing but don't leave comments.

The Letter "W" ~~ Weekend Roundup and Reflections

(B) A Favorite: Yes, one of my Favorites, our youngest granddaughter, KP, with her neighbor friend (i.e. Nosey Neighbors Pair #02 -- Pair #01 was KP's Mom[our daughter] and her friend, years ago).

Letter "P" ~~ Weekend Roundup

The US astronaut who pioneered the use of Amateur Radio to make contacts from space — Owen K. Garriott, W5LFL — died April 15 at his home in Huntsville, Alabama. He was 88. Garriott’s ham radio activity ushered in the formal establishment of Amateur Radio in space, first as SAREX — the Shuttle Amateur Radio Experiment, and later as ARISS — Amateur Radio on the International Space Station.
“Owen Garriott was a good friend and an incredible astronaut,” fellow astronaut Buzz Aldrin tweeted. “I have a great sadness as I learn of his passing today. Godspeed Owen.”
An Oklahoma native, Garriott — an electrical engineer — spent 2 months aboard the Skylab space station in 1973 and 10 days aboard Spacelab-1 during a 1983 Space Shuttle Columbia mission. It was during the latter mission that Garriott thrilled radio amateurs around the world by making the first contacts from space. Thousands of hams listened on 2-meter FM, hoping to hear him or to make a contact. Garriott ended up working stations around the globe, among them such notables as the late King Hussein, JY1, of Jordan, and the late US Senator Barry Goldwater, K7UGA. He also made the first CW contact from space. Garriott called hamming from space “a pleasant pastime"...(more at the link above)”
We have a couple of pottery pieces designed and crafted by the now deceased former Mrs. Garriott, a "Moon Jar" and a "Sun Jar" that we proudly display at our home. You can see them here on my older blog post.
Additionally, their daughter was in one of my college classes, taking it for dual credit, college and high school. We did discuss her brother who later also traveled to the Space Station as a civilian.
I am a Ham Radio licensee but never did make contact with any of the Garriott's via Ham Radio.
Passing starts with "G". Please read above of the passing this week of a work friend, Astronaut Owen Garriott. We didn't see each other after I left the space program to teach Business courses at the community college.

(D) Reflection(s): An inside window decoration found in the foyer at church this afternoon. An artist came last week to give of his talent.
Mrs. Jim and I also served at church this noon service. I was a greeter for those coming in and we both helped with baptism. Seven were baptized today, we have three more services this weekend, tomorrow evening and two Sunday morning.
We also plan to help with baptism tomorrow evening and I will help again with the service. We attend Second Baptist Church of Houston, the Highway 1463 Campus of the town of Fulshear, Texas (link). There are five other campuses scattered around the Houston, Texas, area.

I like to visit English gardens, most are kept so pretty.
The first I caught during our bus ride from Dover where our cruise ship landed to London to spend a few days there. I do not know what this garden is for or what it may be a part of. Note the black striped airplane beside the building.

Now some June pictures of our English friend's garden.
They live north of London at Towcester (link), Northamptonshire, U.K.
This vegetable garden was not in England, but in the U.K, at Harwell, Scotland.
It was located adjacent to a church there, I don't know who owned it.
2. Week's Favorite: Mrs. Jim has found a toy Volkswagen Transporter that she liked. The Peppa Pig (previous blog link) creatures didn't seem to mind her riding with them.
It has to be my favorite because it is a Mrs. Jim Picture.
3. Bounce: My title, "Hang on, we'll bounce when we land".
When I found this picture at the Cracker Barrel in Baton Rouge last weekend (now you know why I'm so slow in answering your comments last week--it may happen again this weekend?) I had thought that the title would come out. Wrong.
4. A food picture: (due to popular demand)
"Breakfast on the Ship"
Believe it or not, I don't gain much weight, if any, on our cruises. One of the reasons is that I try to really enjoy my breakfast and make it large. The omelet is two egg, sometimes I have it one egg, with sausage, bacon, mushrooms, onions, spinach (a double helping)--for color, and white and yellow cheddar cheese.
Continuing clockwise is my canned fruit selection, two different types of link sausage, corn beef hash (almost as good as what the Army cooks made), a pile of ketchup, what's left of a hash brown potato patty, a lemon filled pastry, and a small pancake. Some days I also have a piece or two of raw pineapple or cantaloupe, watermelon, or all.
The cruise ship, Pacific Princess (link), is the Princess line's small ship with a capacity of only 680 passengers. It will go where other larger ships can't, we rode with it into the Black Sea in August, 2013. This cruise left from NYC, then we visited Halifax, three stops in Iceland, and two in northern Scotland before we finished at Dover, England. That was followed by a bus ride into London where we stayed a couple of day.
