Quarantine Hair

Jay was determined to wait until the school year ended before getting a haircut. Consequently, he grew an impressively luxurious strawberry mop of hair. The last time I trimmed his hair back in February was the best haircut I've ever given. My February fading and layering job on Jay's hair made it grow out in an almost-perfect way. The back didn't look bushy and mullet-long because I layered it so well and because the top was so much longer. It was satisfying to see my quality amateur work grow out so nicely. But the situation was getting intense. Jay developed a head-jerk-side-sweep to swoop the hair out of his eyes every few seconds. He voluntarily wore it in a ponytail on two separate occasions. He was feeling ready to see clearly again.

Jay finished his last math module and reading assignment this week, so he declared today (Sunday, June 14th) to be Haircut Day, even though the official end date for the school year isn't until Friday, June 19th. Even though it's been a few months since I gave a haircut, my mom barber skills are still strong.

Time since last haircut:

Jay: 4 months

Rose: 13 months

Amber: 9 months

Shaina: 8 months

Jeff: at least 4 months

Everyday hair: we have been letting their hair go wild and free for the past three months. My cute semi-groomed peasant children.

Amber has quite the wild forelock growing out these days too, but I have sworn off attempting to cut her hair. The last haircut I gave her is growing out slightly unevenly and I know if I try to fix it, it will only get worse. Her hair is as wild as her passionate little soul! She begged me for a haircut, but I had to decline.

Rose has gone the longest without a haircut, but her hair is the most simple and cooperative so it doesn't look quite as unkempt as her siblings.

We smoothed out Jay's hair for his "before picture" to see just how long it had gotten.

Jay really does have beautiful hair. The longer it grows, the more strawberry tones mix in with his blonde. When I cut it off, the strawberry color always fades.
