Baby Tomi

Congrats to Becca and Devin for welcoming Baby Tomiko Kate into the world. The birth story is quite the birth story. Let's just say:

- it was in the middle of the night
-Christmas morning
-in a blizzard (Devin had to shovel through this)

-snowblower guy almost had to deliver
-calmly saying "the baby is crowning" while being wheelchaired down the hallway
-in hospital only about 15 minutes before birth (good thing she likes to go natural anyway)
-delivered in street clothes after nurses took off her "cute boots"

but it was all worth it because look how cute she is!

The proud big brother!

(I took these photos off my sister's blog. I couldn't resist telling the whole world about the story because my sister is so freakin cute/funny. Plus I'm a proud aunt!)

White Christmas

Our trip to UT for a White Christmas did not disappoint. The trip started off on a great note when we got upgraded to First Class (perks of a husband that travels a lot). Wyatt loved looking out the window and playing with some of the new gadgets I had gotten for the plane ride.

Jason and I got to go skiing on Tuesday. It wasn't what I call a bluebird day. In fact it was the exact opposite....snowing the whole day! It was freezing but we got in a lot of runs because we would ski down the hill fast because it was so cold. I think we could call ourselves diehards now because that was who was skiing that day.

Christmas Eve is my favorite thing in UT for Christmas. We eat dinner and then deliver gifts. Several years ago, my sister and I were there together and we decided to dress up for the occasion. We put on some green dance uniforms, Hugh was Santa, and my mom was Mrs. Claus, oh, and Devin was being inaugurated into the family by participating as an elf. Well, the tradition has continued even though the founder (me) hasn't been able to participate every year. Whatever family is in town that year dresses up and delivers presents in the neighborhood. My mom has added to the "elf" costumes every year. I was so excited to be able to dress up this year. Jason was a great sport for dressing up. And, of course, have you ever seen a cuter Santa? (He was a little scared of Big Santa at first).

We opened presents on Christmas morning (okay Wyatt did) then we did the annual Nativity Scene as well. Wyatt played the part of Baby Jesus and he did such a great job.

Christmas in AZ (a little early)

Since we were flying to UT for Christmas, we had asked Santa to come early to our home in AZ. We celebrated Christmas in AZ the Sunday before Christmas. Wyatt was all ready for church when we opened presents before his nap. He had so much fun opening presents from his grandparents.

He got this little firetruck that he could ride on. He made a big fuss if we weren't pushing the buttons ALL the time and he constantly wanted to be riding it. He was laughing and laughing and was mad when he had to get off.

Then that night we went to the First Annual Church Sibling Christmas Party. Whit and Laura did a fabulous job hosting. We had a great meal and they had decorated their house, the tables, and the outside so well. We played Reindeer Games which included the old school tradition of a candy toss from back in the Church Family Reunion days. We also wrote a Christmas wish on a piece of Chinese paper and lit it on fire (typical pyro activity for Whit). Then we sang some carols. Wyatt had so much fun playing with his cousins (and you should have seen his eyes when he saw the balloons).

What we're doing now....

Jason has been taking a class to become a teacher at University of Phoenix. If he passes which I know he won't have any problem doing, then he will teach a business class. He also has been involved in a lot of things at work. His team is doing well and he gets to visit them often (i.e. travels a lot). He is definitely ready for a vacation.

Kate has been thinking of too many projects to do that none of them seem to get accomplished. They are all in her head so she has to start them so she won't forget. I hope I can finish them soon. I'm enjoying being a mom of a toddler. Wyatt is at such a fun stage and we enjoy spending the day together. We still have our weekly activities but we also get to do other things as well. I am looking forward to having a white Christmas in UT this year (first Christmas in UT since being married). Also I can't wait to hit the slopes. I couldn't go last year so I'm itching to go.

Wyatt loves life! He is so happy to just play, eat, and sleep. He started really crawling pretty fast around his first birthday. He hasn't really had any thoughts of walking but I was a late walker so I'm pretty sure he will be too. He is just content. He is off the bottle and now is starting to dislike veggies (or at least baby food ones). He always wants to eat what we are eating. He looks at both of our plates to make sure he has the same food.

Wyatt also enjoys car rides now too. Yes, we made the switch to forward facing and it is heavenly for all involved. Wyatt is so busy looking out of the window that he forgets he is strapped in. I swear he just talks to himself a little or is quiet the whole car ride. He can't wait to see the snow!

That is what's up with us for now.

Post edit: Jason passed his class and will be teaching a "Green" business class at University of Phoenix. Green is the new black! Yeah, Jason.

Merry Christmas 2009

My brother can't believe that we have to get so many Christmas cards every year. We seem to get a lot, but when you love so many people and have tons of friends like we do, then you have to send a lot out. Well, in case you didn't get our card here it is. It doesn't mean we love you any less. It just means we didn't want Costco to run out of cards so we limited ourselves this year.

The Top Ten reasons why 2009 was the best yet for the Jason and Kate Winsor Family.....
10. Disneyland, we loved Disneyland-twice (Winsor & Church/Voorhess)
9. US Airways Silver Preferred Dividend Miles and big earphones that enable Jason to escape those awkward airplane conversations.
8. Newport Beach Vacation with the Church/Voorhees Family
7. Moving?!?!?!? (no we didn't move, but our bags were packed...maybe next year Sossaman Estates!)
6. Kate's activities-Zoo visits, book club, Thursday mall days, Friday reading time, park days, pool time with Cooley Station chicks, and the list can go on and on and on...
5. Stock symbol: APOL
4. The Body Bugg
3. Watching Superman Wyatt during the holidays!
2. Watching Wyatt with his cousins, family, and friends!
1. Watching Wyatt grow-up! It has been an amazing year and we have loved watching Wyatt experience everything from looking for airplanes in the sky to carousel rides, to being so excited to drink from a cup, we die laughing!
Thank you for being a major influence in our life. We are so blessed to have such a great family and friends. We are grateful for our Savior's birth and life which enables us to find peace and joy during this season and throughout the year!

Wyatt's Nutty Friends

Every year as we decorate for Christmas we bring out the nutcrackers. I'm pretty sure I've told you about this tradition so I won't explain it again. Anyway, this year has been so fun with them. The first time Wyatt saw them he was smiling, laughing, and talking. They have become his little friends. He will crawl over to them and touch their feet. Then he looks up to them and starts babbling away. I can't wait to go to my mom's house because she has a zillion nutcrackers. Wyatt will be in heaven! But, I'm pretty sure he will not find the 7 foot nutcrackers friendly.

Bottle Weaning

I decided enough is enough! I was sick of the bottles so the doctor told me to go cold turkey and that I would be glad that I did it sooner than later. I started midday Monday. He had his morning bottle with no intentions of me giving it up that day. But my mood changed during his nap. Poor guy! He actually did pretty well and didn't seem to notice that the bottle had disappeared from his life. Except for the next morning.

He noticed.

His normal routine is to come into our bed and I lay him down while he drinks his bottle. Okay, drinks is a relative term but he rather sips it (he's not a big drinker...never has been). He was screaming because he wouldn't even take the sippy cup and probably was starving. Who wouldn't be hungry after 12 hours? I took him downstairs to give him breakfast. He stopped crying and ate a lot of food. Then later on he drank a tiny amount of milk. Throughout the day he drank more and more. Today it was a similar morning although not nearly as bad. But he has had more milk throughout the day. I think he is catching on rather quickly. I know, my child is a genius and a fast learner. He gets that from both his parents.

I knew that he probably wouldn't be getting his adequate amount of milk supply for the next week or so but it's totally worth it, even though my mom thinks that a sippy cup is like a bottle too. I see her point but sometimes a kid just likes to suck. I mean, I still have my "sippy cup" attached to my hip every day. Aren't we supposed to drink plenty of water?

Anyway, I quit cold turkey on the bottle and it has been going great. If I don't make a big deal of the "milk" sippy cup (I have a separate one for milk for him to make the connection) sometimes I will catch Wyatt drinking it all on his own. He usually only drinks it at mealtimes, which is a bonus. This kid loves drinking out of a cup anyway so it's fabulous!

I'm going to miss him cuddling with us in the bed drinking his milk. No more lounging in our room for a few minutes anymore.

He sees you when you're sleeping, He knows when you're awake!

Since Santa Claus and his little elves are watching our every move, I wanted to tell you how our 24 days of Christmas are going. They are going so well, in fact we have been adding bits and pieces all along the way and doing more than planned.

First, Wyatt and I went to visit Santa at our church building. I thought he would cry but I wasn't sure. Well folks, he cried. If you look closely, he has the cutest, scared face while looking at Mrs. Claus. They wanted me in the picture but I don't do pictures before 10 am (Becca, remember our Disneyland pictures with Martina in high school? Ever since then I vowed I would never take a picture before 10 am).

Next, we went to a Gingerbread House Party. Our friends were going to decorate theirs and decided to make a party out of it. Jason and Wyatt skipped out early to go to bed and do schoolwork (yawn) but I sure had fun decorating/copying the picture for our little house. Before Wyatt left he was loving playing with the kids. Like I've been saying forever, Wyatt loves kids! He needs an older sibling.

Later that night Jason and I were talking about how Wyatt loves kids. So, we decided to invite some of his cousins over for cookie decorating. Wyatt was asleep practically the whole time but I decided to wake him up because I knew he would love the company. Just look at the smile on his face with his little friends surrounding him. He also didn't mind eating the cookies either. (Side note: I hate making sugar cookies with cookie cutters. I always feel like the cookies are hard and crispy and just not good. Well, I just did little drop cookies (perfect for little hands and mouths) and they turned out SO good. That is what I'm doing from now on.) I had Titus come upstairs and wake Wyatt up with me. Wyatt was all laughs and smiles seeing his cousin came to play with him. Danny and Titus kept making Wyatt laugh. Wyatt is so lucky to have cousins that live so close.

Two to One

Sometimes Wyatt likes to trick me.

For example, one day his morning nap will be one hour and then the next day it will 1 1/2-2 hours. His afternoon nap might be the same. But on occasion one of the naps can be 2 1/2 hours. I just never know.

Don't worry, I am not complaining. I kind of like this two nap schedule. I get to take a shower, clean, etc. during his morning nap and then have "Kate time" for his afternoon nap (aka computer time).

But I think the day is here or in a few months to transition to just one nap. I hated switching to two naps at first because he was so cranky but I really do love two naps. So much that I hate to switch to just one. But a mom has to do what a mom has to do, right?

As I mentally prepare for this change I need all the advice I can get. Please, please, please let me know how you did it (and any coping strategies as well because in my research it doesn't seem like an easy transition).

Oh, and any tips that you may have on weaning from a bottle are also greatly appreciated.

2009 Ornaments

This year Jason was going to be out of town when we officially do our "Ornament FHE" so we did it yesterday. There is a funny story behind the ornaments for this year. We went to a few different stores because we haven't found the best store for ornaments. I kept telling Jason that we needed this one Christmas store in Omaha that just sells ornaments and he said, "We aren't in Omaha so that is not going to help us."
Anyway, without further ado, we were able to pick out a few. I could tell Jason didn't want to go to another store so he said that he was picking one out at the store we were in. I was surprised because most of them were very girly. I told him that each ornament every year has to do something with that past year. I wanted a Mardi Gras mask because we went to New Orleans and I was a Mardi Gras gal for Halloween. But I came up with this strand with Mardi Gras colors. Wyatt's ornament is an airplane, of course, due to his undying love for anything that flies in the skies. And Jason's is this polar bear. I asked him the story behind this one and he replied, "I don't know why but I'm really missing Canada this year."
Okay, I'm still laughing about it because he made that up because he didn't want to go to another store.
(For those who don't know Jason lived in Canada for two years serving a mission for our Church.)

Kick off to Christmas!

This year our 24 days of Christmas started early. Last Sunday we went to see the lights at the Mesa Temple with Jason's brother. It was Wyatt's first Temple Lights visit and he was enthralled. Wait until he sees Temple Square in Salt Lake in a few weeks. He will be in heaven! It was the best way to kick off our Christmas season to feel the Spirit of the true meaning of Christmas.

I saw on a friend's blog that she was going to do something fun every day with her son. So, I'm a copycat and decided that we are doing that too. Here is the list of things we have planned for the rest of December:

1- Set up Nativity- talk about true meaning of Christmas
2- Sing carols around the tree with guitar
3- Walk around the mall and window shop

6- Drive around and look at Christmas lights (we do this every Sunday in December...a tradition started back when Jason and I got married)
7- Ornament FHE
8-Hang mistletoe and kiss
9-Donate food to food bank or secret santa
10-Make treats for neighbors
11-Christmas movie with popcorn/hot chocolate

Thanksgiving 2009

This Thanksgiving we went with the Winsor's. Wyatt had so much fun playing with his cousins. He basically lived on the blanket playing with the leap frog table but if he decided to crawl off you could have found him in the dirt eating rocks. Who needs turkey? He and his cousin Bugsy (Kirk) have a lot of fun together.

After visiting with the Winsor's, we went with my family for seconds over at my mom's house. Despite our failed attempts for taking a family picture for our Christmas card, Wyatt had a blast playing with his cousins and grandparents. Both of my brothers think they know how to take pictures with "the best lighting" but I think they need to work on it. (hehe) I didn't take that many pictures because we were having too much fun. Plus we got to eat some of the pies that I had made with my mom the day before.

I need to give a shout out to my nephew Danny. This kid is the sweetest kid ever. Plus, he makes Wyatt laugh all the time. Whenever we go visit them, Danny is always entertaining Wyatt. It is so cute!
I'm so thankful for so many things but especially for my family, the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and the Savior.

Turkey Trot 09 and Race Day Training!

This year I was so excited to run in the Turkey Trot since a year ago I was still in the hospital recovering from giving birth. I wanted to beat my time so badly. But unfortunately, that dang Power Road bit always gets to me. My clock time was 1:02 (the time I wanted to beat) and that is the time I got. Not any worse (or better for that matter). Actually my chip time was 1:01 so technically I did beat it. I wanted to get under an hour so I think I'm going to sign up for another 10k and try to beat it. I think I can, I think I can, I think I can........

I have to put in a plug for my personal trainer, Dixie! I have been doing Race Day Training for a few months now. I feel stronger and faster than ever before. For example, today I ran 4 miles in 36:02 minutes and I could have gone longer. I didn't even feel like stopping but due to time contraints I did. My body may not be where I want it to be weight wise but I think I am in the best shape due to Race Day. Dixie creates the best workouts where it leaves me feeling so great afterwards....after the feeling of puking goes away that is. She also motivates us mentally to battle the bulge (because let's be honest, the emotional/mental side must be addressed too). Thanks, Dixie, for getting inside my head every workout and pushing me to my limits so I can have that adrenaline rush every workout.
I couldn't live without the body bugg and Race Day Training!

One Year Stats!

We went to the dr. on Monday and here are Wyatt's one year stats:

Height- 30.5 inches (70th percentile)
Weight- 18 lbs. 10 oz. (2nd percentile)
Head Circumference- 18.5 inches

So, basically he is getting taller and skinnier. He got his shots and was not a fan but came through all right. He actually didn't even make a peep while the dr. examined him. He is such a good baby (errr I mean toddler now). I think I'll consider him a toddler when he is walking.

Wyatt crawls like a maniac now. The week of his birthday is when he really started to pick it up. He was a swimmer/army crawler forever but now that is long gone. He is getting faster and faster. I love it because now he can catch up to me and isn't as fussy when I start to leave the room. Don't worry....we have our moments still but not nearly as bad.

Wyatt loves drinking milk, especially from a cup, with my help of course! He gets so excited when I help him because he feels like such a big boy. He just loves trying and experiencing new things. He is such a cutie!

Wyatt's First Birthday Bash!

Wyatt turned one a week ago. I seriously can't believe where the year went (I hate when people say that but it is true). We threw him a big bash to celebrate. Since this kid loves airplanes it was airplaned themed. I mean for a kid who looks into the sky looking for a plane whenever he hears it (and many times before anyone else hears it), what else could we have done? I'm not that creative so I hired out my creativity and a friend helped me with many of the cutsy stuff (invites, party favors, banner, cupcake toppers, etc.)

Many of Wyatt's cousins, aunts, uncles, and grandparents all made it to the big party. He was a little overwhelmed because it was dark at the park (the lights didn't turn on under the ramada) but then he started to open up when everyone was doing their own thing instead of paying attention to him. He is more of a silent watcher of his cousins than wanting the spotlight. I know, a little odd for our child but maybe he will grow out of it.

We ate pizza, salad, and drinks. I made cupcakes and we had ice cream sandwiches for dessert. Wyatt was not interested in smashing his cake that night so we did it the next night in our house. After posing for a picture and examining the cupcake (this kid always explores a new food before trying it...heck, he isn't going to waste calories on something that tastes bad), he loved every second of this cake!

Here is the stash that he got from all his cousins and grandparents! I had a lot of fun getting everything ready for him to play with the next day. But to say he liked the balloons the best is an understatement! He crawled around with all ten in hand all day. I finally had to get rid of them after a few days because he would get lost and tangled up in them.

We had such a great night and feel so blessed to have this little guy in our lives. Every night Jason and I sit and talk about how cute he is and how lucky we are to have him.

Happy Birthday Wyatt!
We Love You!
