Timp, September 2012

This weekend was the craziest weekend. Ben had been out of town which is not abnormal, but for some reason, I was spent. It had been a busy month. I dropped the kids off to someone and drove down with Cath towards the trailhead. We had the best chat, and I was feeling better by the time we started hiking. I wrote a super long journal entry about the break down I had this weekend (back in September), so I won't go into detail here. But, it was so nice to be up in the mountains. The colors were at their peak at Timpanogos and it was great weather.

Sis. Best friend. Role model.
This is me in my happy place. I love the outdoors! It's  funny because I hate exercising but I would push myself for backpacking anytime.

My sister in law, Heidi, is really similar to me. She wanted to go backpacking because she'd never been, so she planned this trip with her sis Mikell, but her husband didn't feel that two girls overnight was safe, so she let me and Cath tag along. I can't believe we actually went! When she first asked me, I was not thinking we'd really pull it off with all our different schedules.

We got a late start, so we didn't get to the saddle to camp until around ten. So we hiked a fair amount in the dark. We startled a mountain goat on our path, so awesome. We had a couple hairy moments where it was to dark to decipher the trail in the dark and it was so steep and rocky that the wrong way was really the wrong way. I am so glad we didn't have any accidents. This is a picture of South Jordan and that whole area surrounding the temple with the moon setting behind. This was probably at about 4 am?

This is the HC pic Cath took of me when we finally decided to get up and hike. We weren't very s,art camping in the shelter and people were waking us up all night. Finally we decided we'd just hike instead of stay in our bags awake from all the passers by.

Cath's awesome pose...love her.
On the very top! And so happy to be there. It's amazing how many were there at 5 in the morning. We didn't have time to stay for the sunrise, so we parted ways with Heidi and Mikell on top.
We posed for a pic on the ridge, as the sun was almost up...
I died the whole rest of the way down, it was stunning to hike down in the sunrise. Cath kept getting mad at me because I would stop and take so many pictures, and she was running a tight ship to be to a meeting by noon. But man, it was gorgeous. I can't wait til my boys are old enough to start backpacking! So many places to show them.
