Help!

I'm posting this on Facebook and on my blog because I know some people are on one and not the other! I'm desperately in need of some Mom advice. Maddie's iron was low at her last doctor's appt. so he prescribed some iron drops for her. But she throws up every time she even gets a whiff. I've tried hiding it in milk, lemonade, apple juice and chocolate milk. I've even tried some tough love by just shooting it down her throat. Vomit everywhere. Not pretty. It's getting to the point where she won't drink ANYTHING I give her because she thinks I've tried to sneak the iron in. Any ideas?

  1. Can't she just take a gummy vitamin with extra iron? We never had this problem...but Carter was really sensitive to the vitamins in the NICU. They put them in a feeding tube and he still spit them up every time. I finally told them to forget it. They weren't allowed to give him any more. Maybe they just bug her tummy. I would tell the doctor you need another alternative for sure.

  2. Amelia had low iron for the longest time and I struggled with those STUPID disgusting drops. I tried everything from holding her down and forcing it in her mouth (which she'd eventually spit out later).

Then I started giving her Flintstones with Iron chewables (the "with Iron" part is VERY important. They're in a red box). I just gave her one a day and since then, her iron has gone up and now she's back on regular vitamins!

    Good luck!

  3. (Call and talk to a nurse before you give these to her. I don't want to be a little nurse telling you what to do...but Amelia is a lightweight and she did just fine on these!)
