Chinese anyone?

Wouldn't you just love to make this felt Chinese takeout for you children? As I was going back through some of my etsy favorites, I ran across this shop (www.buggabugs.etsy.com). She has patterns for everything from fruit and veggies to movie treats and Noah's ark. Maybe I'll try my hand at a few.

Last night as Jacob was watching the final basketball game of the tournament, I decided to head upstairs to read my book, "Kite Runner". After finishing it, I headed to the sewing machine to try a few projects I've been wanting to work on. A few months ago I bought some felt, with the idea I was going to make a quiet book for my nephew, Cole's, 2nd birthday. Well, the quiet book never made it, but the felt and ideas were still there, so when I sat down last night, this is what I came up with for my first page of the quiet book. Can't tell what it is?...A tree of course, with a nest and a cute fuzzy bird sitting in that nest. I've also hand stitched the number 1 and the word "tweet". My idea is to turn it into a counting book, with each page being a different number of something, but I'd love any ideas or suggestions you all have. It was a fun late-night project.

pin cushion

I have been eyeing this pin cushion pattern for quite some time, so when I brought back a new stash of fabrics from my latest trip to Utah, I thought this would be the perfect little project to use some of them.

In the Details

I've had a list for a while now of things that I wanted to try to sew to maybe add to Fig Basics, and since I've started sewing again, I decided to start down that list, and ended up with these cute cloth blocks. The fabrics are mostly Amy Butler, with one side being striped chenille. I was so excited when I completed them, I decided to make a bag for them to go in...

...So is my first drawstring bag. It's made of pink flannel. The fun is in the details. I did my first applique, which turned out better than I thought, I machine sewed my first button hole, which was very easy, and sewed a little scalloped edge around the top. I thought the bag was perfect to put the blocks in, but a little big for my set of 3 so I'll have to find another use for it.

I was thinking of selling the blocks as a set on my etsy shop, but wanted to get your opinions...

This is part of a gift I gave at a baby shower recently. I love this fabric, and how cute it turned out. Watch for some new designs in my shop!

A week of meals...and one to grow on

I usually get in a meal rut, or try all new recipes which I can never find again, so I'm trying to keep track of the meals we have. Maybe this will spark some meal ideas to get you out of your own rut. All but 2 of these recipes are new, so hopefully I've come across some keepers. I'll post if I do. Our week in meals...

A Fabric Obsession

I have a little obsession with fabrics. There are so many cute fabrics out there, and I'm learning that they get discontinued after a certain period of time, so I feel like I need to get them now. My newest favorite is this line from Alexander Henry. Don't you just love the vivid colors and playful images. Unfortunately (or fortunately) I can't seem to find it in stock anywhere, so I'm going to have to wait a little longer to get it. I guess that will give me a little time to do something with the piles of fabric that I already have.

A little girly

When I was out in Utah I went a little crazy at the fabric stores and came home with a stack of fabric and many exciting projects. This is the first baby quilt that I've made with my new fabrics, and I love how it turned out. It makes me hope I have a baby girl since I always fall in love with girly fabrics.

This is the little elephant that I made today and was so excited about how it turned out. I still need to do some fine tuning, but I love the retro fabrics.

It's a boy!

I just finished my first baby boy blanket for our friends, the Osorios. I just thought this fabric was so cute!
