Since seeing these Meadham Kirchhoff glitter tees from Spring 2010, I've longed for something similar. Well a click of the heels and a stroll down the yellow brick road to Zara and I've found myself a nice alternative! I also just learned the news that their US e-commerce store is opening next week. DANGEROUS.

Another way around it

Alexander Wang skirt, SS10

Proenza and Wang both did it this season: the skirt or dress made to look like a shirt is tied around your waist. I actually started doing this before it popped up on Spring '10 catwalks, but after seeing the Wang shirt skirt (above), I went out and got a cheap gray button down from Uniqlo so I could rock this look some more. If you're buying a button up shirt for the main goal of wearing it as a skirt like this, definitely size up, or it won't fit around your waist!

Follow that girl

Each season, Sweden's Weekday gives us both a well-styled lookbook (ADORED this season's), and later more of a lifestyle editorial, showing young people partaking in general mischief in the clothes. For springtime, they worked in a chola lip, side cornrows, and giant wooden crosses on chains. I especially like the long trench over the oversized tee. Overall, the looks are quite rough-and-tumble for the usual clean palette Sweden favors, but I get what they're going for so it's not a hard sell. Maybe the stylists dug up old episodes of My So Called Life and fawned over one of tv's best ever bad girls, Rayanne?

Drunken butterfly

One quite poetic collection I somehow completely overlooked when it was showed in the fall is Meadham Kirchhoff. Maybe it's better I didn't soak it in until now as it's much more relevant and inspiring seeing a spring range during the season it was designed for. London-based Ed Meadham and Benjamin Kirchhoff showed the kind of girl that's hopped over some fences and simultaneously ripped her dress and put slits in her knees, braided her hair the night before and rocked the resulting fuzzy waves the next day- it's t-shirts WITH dresses, dresses WITH pants. Who says you have to decide? I like the girl these clothes are for- she knows who she is and figured out how to look floaty and pretty without sacrificing her inner tomboy. And somehow, the stiff glitter t-shirts (which Susie had the pleasure of investigating) don't look out of place at all. If anything, they were the needed dose of sunshine to these emotional, worn looks.

Every day of the week

Weekday's Spring 2010 collection is so so so so good. Look at those mesh wedges! I'm about to beg one of you Stockholm bloggers to be my personal shopper and pick up some of the items below for me. I love the idea of working in transparent garments over tees and dresses. Obviously it looks hot over just a showy bra, but that's not always the easiest to pull off. If I can't get my hands on any of this stuff, I'll at least refer to it over and over again this summer, cause this is how I'd like to walk out the door, weather permitting.

Optical phenomenon

Remember that freaky beetle keychain I picked up on St. Marks Place in the fall? Well, I thought it was a waste to have such a cool thing as a keychain- I mean, it's not like middle school when you showcase them on your backpack zippers next to band patches and your friends' graffiti. So I put it on a necklace and it's now in heavy rotation.

The necklace looks cool against this black & white gridded top I just found at Uniqlo. It instantly reminded me of a very similar print from Dries' Spring 09 collection. The main difference is if you look real close, the squares look like they were drawn with a sharpie...which I think is awesome.

This Jil Sander dress has a lot of the same colors in it as the Japanese beetle- Yui made the same observation! I can't help myself lately with the foil/metallic/wrapping paper obsession either.


A lot of the Proenza Schouler accessories this season have cool coloring like iridescent bugs. I want those shades, but maybe I'll hold out and stalk Loehmann's where I found my last Proenza Schoules sunglasses on the cheap.

CTRL yourselves

Finland is a cold dark place. Those people should know how to make a good coat then right? Well one of favorite coats actually came from Finnish brand CTRL- it's a hooded leather bomber that has made it through quite a few NYC winters now and hopefully many more to come. These CTRL kids (I consider myself a kid so using that term loosely) have fun each season making a really well-rounded streetwear range of graphic prints and equal parts excellent cut-n-sew. They are kind of like the Finnish PAM. I know I'll be stalking their webstore for these polka dot numbers (I missed out on the CDG x H&M button up polka dot tops like these so excited to see a similar take).

Big bright shirts are so summer, and so is that hairdo...can my hair grow out already so I can do this?

I'm really feeling their use of color this season. Also, never thought I'd like acid wash anything ever, especially not colored (gasp!) but this jacket is the ill styles.

Let's all pretend we are lifeguards from the other side. Who's in?

Un.der T

The second installment of Telfar's diffusion line Un.der T is launching tonight at Eva New York. With fabric provided by American Apparel, and pieces that include reinterpretations of some of Telfar's best work over the last half decade, expect to see a TRUE diffusion line. There will be 15 limited pieces ranging from $80-$150, for the girls or boys as always. The spring preview goes down from 5-8pm at Eva (355 Bowery).

Phase

Berlin-based Anntian...where do I even begin? First, the fact that I have not mentioned them on here before is pure shame. Their clothes tell a story through a hands on process of prints and painting, they are conceptual, and they are different than anything else I see out there, and that as you know is not easy to say in the regurgitated fashion game. I'm telling you- if you were a recovering color-holic and swore it off in favor of shades of the earth and shadows, you'd be in bad shape upon seeing Anntian's offerings. I encourage you to flip through the rest of their spring '10 lookbook cause it was just so hard to narrow down for this modern-day ADD audience.

Do You Nomi?

Claudia Becker's Spring 2010 capsule collection was inspired by singer Klaus Nomi, a prominent New York (via Germany) experimental performance artist who died in the early 80s. Using innovative shapes and materials combined with current spring colors and trends, it is a beautiful collaboration between past and present.

Pin Up: Irregular Choice SS10

I just received the Irregular Choice SS10 lookbook, and as per usual there is much to be desired! This season they took a whirl at whimsical retro styles, using vintage-inspired prints and silhouettes and adding that unique IC flare to each pair.



I love these wedges- the sky high Missoni-esque wooden wedge would look hot with denim cutoffs and a simple tank, or pretty much anything for that matter! And the floral printed open toes boots- definitely a must-have for the transition between winter and spring.


I'm really feeling the subtle, yet intricate woven leather details on these mini wedges. They remind me of long warm summer days and short light dresses.


And finally, for the sexy pin up in all of us...I love the girly florals and bold polka dots! You will definitely get some catcalls wearing these walking down the city streets!

Fashematical

If you haven't caught on to the Fashematics craze by now, find yourself a chunk of time and head over there. Jonathan Zawada is the mastermind behind these genius fashion equations (check out his amazing home in Sydney), as well as one third of Trust Fun!- the design collective responsible for such epicness as fashion comic zine Petit Mal!, rockmen necklaces, and fractal scarves. To commemorate his 50th(ish) post on Fashematics, Jonathan created an illustrated zine of his fave looks from Spring 2010. Instead using the usual pretty faces though, he decided to reinterpret the stars of the catwalk "as part of either a horde of zombies or an army of robots, hell-bent on taking planet Earth for themselves." Impressed (or just a fashion nerd like me)? Well you better order your copy now as he only made 200 of these babies to go around!
