Deconstruction Workshop II
Earlier this year, I had a period of time where I was completely fascinated with deconstructing my shirts and held a couple of workshops with my students on how to recreate their own gear and transform them into new interesting pieces. I held one earlier workshop in March with my girlfriend Jo Lim which combined a mineral makeup segment before we went into crafting our shirts. More about it HERE.
I've since run this Deconstructed Shirt "From Old to Sexy" workshop at the American club and the response for that workshop was good too! If you're keen on running this workshop with me for your office or school, please feel free to email me at honeymeow@gmail.com for more details. :) It will take 3 hours from start to end. Materials not provided as everyone will need to bring their own tshirts and scissors.
Pictures on this post here comes from my 2nd workshop held at the Raffles Town club in April and it was an interesting evening after one of my dance classes. We covered 3 designs. The Ribbon Tie Back. The Weaved Back and the Corset Back. Everyone left with 3 deconstructed tops of their own creation after learning how to slice, dice n' weave their shirts and I've seen several of them wearing them when they've come for class after! Nice!!
Click on the images here to enlarge to have a better look at the pictures. Giving the instructions above on how to prep your shirt. Below, a shirt completely deconstructed and ready for tying.
Modelling one of the samples that were used for demonstration for the ribbon tie back design to show the participants how it would look when worn. This design is created on a plain tank top.
The process of creating the weave on their shirts.. some decide to use their legs to prop their shirts... some use the back of the chairs... with the chairs on the floor and some on the table...
And some get the assistance of friends while wearing their tops while they're weaved on their bodies... what a good idea!
Everyone had a fun time exchanging fabric scraps, trying out the various designs and learning how to create the various patterns on their tops... I had a great time with alot of laughter amongst all participants, seeing the determination in their faces while they worked on their tops and experiencing the creativity of everyone who came... one more deconstruction workshop coming up in the coming months! If you're keen on participating, drop me an email and I'll keep you on the mailing list.

LNY Mineral Makeup / TShirt Deconstruction Workshop #1
The much requested Tshirt deconstruction workshop was finally on the way and I had the support of my dear friend, Jo Lim from Lolita New York to run a combined workshop for both her Mineral Makeup products and the sexy shirt deconstruction demo. This is the first of a few workshops depending on the demand for this workshop.Quite a number of my dance students this time round was not able to make it due to some being affected by the Japan crisis or being sick that day so another round of this workshop will be held on the 9th of April 2011 at the Raffles Town Club again for those who did not make it this first time round. Those that did come are welcome to attend again. Details for the next workshop can be found at the end of this post.
We had our dance class as usual and after freshening up. We proceeded to our workshop room where Jo started off with her introduction of her company and herself to our group of lovely ladies for the day.
We went through how to analyse our skin type to be able to choose suitable products for our skin tone. Image above showing Jo explaining what kind of color corrector shade would be suitable for my kind of skin...
Jo demonstrating how to apply the color corrector with her customised makeup sponge.
Jo demonstrating how to use their special makeup sponge to apply a smokey eyeshadow look with her mineral makeup colors....
Explaining further on the different products such as their finishing powder with her customised dispenser that sets the makeup on your face, contours your face shape and shows how it brightens your face with its use... she also went through tips on how to reduce eye puffiness and water retention with her special facial massage technique and how to properly wash your face all while toning your jawline so you can avoid a double chin!
My smokey eyeshadow look with Lolita New York's mineral makeup range. Eyes half done.
How it looks like with my face half done.
Everyone then were placed in groups of 3 and everyone was given a pack of full set mineral makeup kits to experiment with. From blending their own shade of blusher to attempting to recreate the smokey eye look with the products supplied.
Some of the ladies with some hands on makeup interaction with LNY products. Learning how to use Jo's special makeup sponge and experimenting with the colors and contouring products. We then moved along to the shirt deconstruction segment of the workshop. Everyone brought 2 of their own shirts with their scissors and were all ready to slice n dice their shirts from Old to Sexy... I layed out some of the previous designs that I experimented with and everyone listened intently ready to wield their scissors for some destruction... haha!
I introduced the 3 basic designs that I was demonstrating for the day. The back tie, the back weave and the corset and everyone got started as they listened with my step by step instructions.
Me demonstrating how to cut the shirt up.
Everyone working on their own creations. And then we finally reach the point where I did the final demo. for the corset design. Picture here showing me hunched over (Do I need spectacles now?!) showing how to snip the holes for the strings.
Everyone still hard at work with their own tops...
At the end of it all, everyone left with their own new sexy creations from their old tops. Knowledge on how to create those tops again and again for future use and a generous full sized Mineral Makeup kit goodybag provided by Lolita New York for their participation.
The next workshop will be held on the 9th of April 2011. Please RSVP at honeymeow@gmail.com if you are keen to attend. Click on the image below for more details. If you are keen to run this workshop in your company or club, please email me for more details on how to arrange for this workshop at your location.Sunday, March 06, 2011
More Shirt Deconstruct Experiments...
Yep, theres more! My hands have been itching to cut up more shirts since I've discovered the "joys" of shirt deconstruction and todays top was not spared the shears as I tried out another design of slashing up your normal style tops. More past designs can be found HERE and HERE. Now I have the ribbon tie design, the weaved design, the corset design and now its the criss crossed design. More to come as I try more patterns.
This one was a regular cotton ribbed double shoulder tank top in dark brown. I converted it to a halter top and behind was sliced n diced up to a criss crossed pattern. I was not too pleased with the outcome of the material however as it was a cotton ribbed material and it did not curl into strips as well as regular cotton or one mixed with spandex curled. Apparently this kind of material does better either as slashed designs that just show very little skin or designs that are cut & tie like my older red one that can be found HERE.
This design took quite awhile to figure out how to weave and tie so that it came out to this design.I figured this may look good on a knee length dress so when I get a cheap piece, I'll give it a try again and see how it looks then. This one however looked fab once I put it on and would look pretty great with jeans & high heels with some bling bling accessories.
I created this one for Mizuki with a brand new "Little Miss Naughty" tshirt. Front can be seen HERE. It was a round neck mini tee which was converted into a tank top. Round neck cut off and behind cut with a straight ribboned laced pattern. Glad she liked it. :)

More Tshirt Deconstruction!
With reference to this earlier deconstructed shirt post, I now have so many different tops that I've deconstructed lately and I've been discovering certain ways about how to cut & weave them to give them different looks. Different classes would see me with a different styled top... some look like webs, some just look sliced n diced and some become my favorites like the above which I know caused quite abit of nosebleeds on my commute wearing this with jeans and heels.....I would definitely create this criss crossed laced up look again with another colored top.
And I also have a dark green top below that I've put up for sale! Its a brand new shirt. Never worn other than taking this photograph. Sleeves cut off so now its a tank top. Fits a size 10 person or a general medium size.
The back looks like this below. I have released this top for purchase over facebook but if you are interested, you can leave me a message or email me at honeymeow@gmail.com to arrange your purchase. Top costs $10. Please add $2 for postage & handling. (Add an additional $2 for registered post charge if you want this). Message me if interested. Let me know!Wednesday, January 26, 2011
From Old to Sexy! Deconstructing your Shirts...
Deconstructing shirts is not a new thing but it certainly works to renew old shirts or even make new ones just that bit snazzy and unique! Its also not an uncommon trend amongst Zumba instructors to slash up their workout gear to add that extra sizzle to the overall look of each individual Zumba instructor.I cut up an old red tee above for my Chinese New Year dance class above and it was an instant hit once I stepped into the studio. Not only was it crazy sexy but the ribbons looked like Chinese firecrackers which was extremely suitable for the occasion. I just sliced off the collar and made it a V-neck and sliced off the sleeves to make it a sleeveless top. An alternative could have been making it a halter top instead.
Making a top with a tied ribbon design like above can make it very versatile as it can fit a wide range of body sizes as you can tie it to fit your torso size.
I personally cut up several of my tees and tank tops much to the hubsters horror at first. "Why are you destroying your shirts!!" he exclaimed but when I show him each finished piece on my body - he nods in understanding and says "your students might think you don't have enough clothes because you wear all these shreds of fabric instead of normal gear but its nice..."
Materials Needed:
An old or new tee shirt.
One that should still be relatively tightly weaved & of average quality rather than be old, thin & flappy or it will not hold up the shredding.
A sharp pair of regular scissors or fabric scissors preferred.
A long metal ruler
Fabric chalk *to mark out your patterns to make cutting easier ie for shapes like the heart below*
A cardboard piece or a cutting board
Scraps of other material ie ribbons
How you cut up your shirt would very much depend on your creativity and you can easily go online to youtube to check out various designs to try out on your old tshirts. Over above, I'm sharing one that I thought *although its a little draggy long to watch* a video that clearly explains how to weave a shirt like what I did below. She weaves her shirt 3 times in her top but mine was a single weave done in a V pattern with a cut out heart. Weaving a shirt looks incredibly nice and its really easy to do too even though it looks complicated.
I practiced on an old black tee above and learnt a couple of things NOT to do in my next deconstruction. *As you can tell, I'm increasingly addicted to cutting up my clothes that I've put aside a whole bag of old tops that are destined for the cut*For the top above, I learnt the following:
1. The dip in the heart shape needs to be deeper to be more obvious its a heart.
2. The longest part of the weave should start below the armpit height & not above or you'll get a gaping hole. (but which would be filled w the sports bra anyway...) and the longest length of line shouldn't be cut too near to the sides of the shirt. 3/4 length is the longest it should go. This time I went as long as 2cm away from side seams.
3. Spacing between each horizontal line must be thicker than 1.5 inches or the shirt's structure gets weak. I cut the lines about 1.5 inches estimated apart for this top and I felt that the structure wasn't going to make this shirt last very long esp. after some machine washing.
4. Weaving this shirt 2-3 times might tighten up the shirt better as the shirt was still quite loose.
I thought this girl below had a great idea for a corset ribbon kind of design which I will try with a fitted top shortly. Its really sweet and would really make a plain top look special. I like it and I'll do one too!!
There you have it so far... I'll post more deconstructed designs as & when I create them but if you make one, show me! Email your creation to honeymeow@gmail.com. I'd love to see it!
UPDATE! Created some more tops. Made one for my friend, Serene below here with her dark blue tshirt and added a purple ribbon at the end.
Thanks for looking!

Halloween: Police Chicks...
Happy Halloween! Its Halloween Themed at most of the clubs that I teach and there are 2 classes that hold this theme this week to dress up for. Todays class at the American Club where I went as Police Chick Pam.. "arresting" people at the gym and in class and all over the club.Accessories to note: Police Hat, Baton, Handcuffs, Walkie Talkie, Torch Light, Gun with Holster, Leather Gloves and my favourite Black boots.
Extra not in picture: Gold Rimmed Aviator sunglasses.
And yeah! I taught the class in this outfit and I have to say - its crazy to teach in costume. Firstly, I attempted the first half of the class with just the stockings but I ended up flashing my ass to the class at least twice with my top riding up my butt.. and then my stockings started to form holes and tears so I had to stop dancing for a minute to pull on some shorts! Insane lah!! We had group pictures taken in the dance studio but I have no idea whos camera we used! I will ask them next week to get a copy of those pictures.
But overall very fun!! This is part 1 of 2 Themed class. Part 2 tomorrow at the Raffles Town Club and I'm looking forward to see what everyone will be dressed as!! :) Mental note - must take pictures! Must take pictures with MY camera!!
Special Thanks to Alegria Dimas who lent me this costume. Love it!!

Sexy Bathtub Dancer - David O'mer
This bathtub act has been showing on Channel 5 at around 1am these past 2 nights. *Yes, I'm still up and not sleeping* The first time I caught it last night, CJ went "Oh! I saw this before".. and there I was going "whoa!! Hot!!"... *reminding myself to blink* and AGAIN!
It showed on TV again tonight... (pushing my gaping mouth closed - BLINK PAM BLINK!).... Hot lah! This is a HAWT act. Its probably his only act but its really not that bad!
Gah!! Look at his arms and back lah..*whistle* I have this thing for strong arms and a lean back..... heh heh.. *lean on hubby's arms and stroking his back... *
This was performed at the Just for Laughs Festival show.
Enjoy! (Anyone have a higher resolution video?) and No.. this is not my dance instructor David if you were wondering. He would be laughing his columbian ass off if he knew people thought this was him. Just sit back and watch the show... :)

Married w/ kids must look like Aunty meh?
To start off, there has been instances lately that I've had people I meet for the first time get genuinely shocked to find out that I'm....
- Married
- Have Kids
- Have more than 1 child and that my kids are in primary school. (At least Eirian's going to be lah, next year)
For instance, at a very recent media contact appointment. I met up with a new potential media partner for a work discussion and somewhere midway through the conversation when we went into the topic of children and I went "oh, my girls.....blah blah blah". She sat there stunned for a long moment and then said, "Excuse me? You mean you have kids?!"
I was stunned too and nodded. And she burst into a stuttering fury of "OMG! I thought you were single! Much less married but with Kids too?" and I mumbled "Oh yeah, in primary school...."
It happened again today, twice too! Once when I was doing some clothes fitting at Marina and the dressing room lady was shocked to find out that I had children. Same reaction as above.
Yeah so if you see these 2 faces on TV this year end and think it looks familiar.. yep yep! Its us! :) Heh heh...
Bwuahahahaha! We both went to an audition some many weeks back and we had not heard from the casting agents & director for so long so we took it as a gone case.It was such a pleasant surprise to get the notification that we got the parts! The part called for a Husband and Wife role btw. So... filming is on the first week of September and I don't know when the TVC is going to be out but you'll definitely know when its out hahahaha... Crossing my fingers that we both do alright.
Shivering in my chair in both nervousness, fright and excitement. I can't say who the client is but you'll know when we get the green lights from the director to say. :) In the meantime.. its time to REALLY lean out as much as we can because you know how its like....
They say, you'll look 20% fatter or 10 pounds bigger on TV but I've seen myself on film. I look at least 10kg bigger! NOT 20% for me.. KG!! At least. We have only 1 month to lean out and it starts. Now.
OH and another thing.. some people have been asking me about why there has not been any weightloss updates for quite some time now. Hahha you noticed! Awww.... anyway..
Its because I'm still 79/80kg! Actually up from the last time I reported at 76kg weight plateau.. and have you noticed the type of food I've been cooking up lately!! Hahahaha
My weight has been ranging from 76-80 for the longest longest time now and frankly, I've gotten a little complacent once I hit the 80kg wall earlier this year. For reasons or more like excuses of being on a super long plateau, to falling ill *never never diet when you're sick, we don't.* to work related fatigue that made me unmotivate myself to break my regime. I've started a carb free cycle again just some days ago after feeling completely better from the bad bug that hit me over the last 3 weeks.
I'm now carb free again and now that I know now that there's another filming coming up... I'm definitely and surely. NOT GOING TO BREAK regime.. *cheering in my head* So this marks the 2nd phase of my weightloss journey. If I'm going to say it again, I'll say it now. I lost 20kg. I can do 20kg more. Wish me luck! :)
Oh Oh oh!! And another toot! I've restarted Zumba classes at the gym lately and I follow this particular instructor named Rashidah. I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE her classes. Love the music selection, the routine she instructs and her energy level is sooo inspiring. I also found that in the latest issue of SHAPE Magazine, August 2008. They did a feature on Zumba and they featured Rashidah and she looks so different! Not that she doesn't usually look feminine in class - more funky usually. In the mag, she's so girly! Hahahaha.... not bad.
So I actually went to a Sunday class yesterday with Lauren! Lauren sat at the member's lounge whilst people I knew there entertained her while I was in class. There was a part in class where we had to find a partner to do a routine and as friendly as we all come, we greeted each other and did a little small talk.
"Hi! First class?" I asked. She said, "Nope, 2nd time, you?"
"Oh, I've done a couple classes with Rashidah"
"Ohh! Can tell, you're really good!"
And there I was .... underneath the already sweating like a pig flushed red face, blushing like crazy... "Thanks!".... its always nice to hear that what you love doing, you are good at.
I try to take compliments as well as I can.. I don't go "aww no no no, I'm really bad/ugly/dumb" so that people can re-affirm and go "no no, really! you're good/pretty/smart" ... Just take a compliment as it is and don't make people say it twice just because it sounds nice.. *big big grin* Some people really don't take compliments well and I hate repeating it when I give one out...
Many things can be improved.. heck! I'm still 79/80kg! waaaay above the average Singaporean 55-60kg lady and if people say its good now.. just watch this space... I will make it....
Traffic Stopping.... STUNNING.
To leave off, let me share a joke that Lauren told me tonight.
"Mommy! I know how they make Rabbit Milk Sweets!" (stuffing her mouth with one) "They take the mommy rabbits and milk them and makes the milk into sweets!"(showing me the teat milking action on imaginary little rabbits)
And... as stunned as I was.. I burst out laughing... *kids... you've gotta love how things are seen through their eyes....*
Enjoy your week people... thank you for reading my blog. :)

Do you believe in Angels?
On any given normal day... you'd just see just me.. but at night! I become an angel! Complete with wings too! Not... sigh.. I wish I were though...We took this picture in my dad's garden at my birthday dinner. My uncle Ben was trying out his camera tricks and this was done with some kind of prolonged exposure trick.
My sister, Alex armed with a torchlight behind me, "drew" my halo and wings around me while I tried to stand as still as I could while the camera was "open" and when she was done, she yelled okay! and SNAP! close exposure and viola! I have glowing wings!!! Super neat trick right!
We tried these with sparklers too but I kept on moving and this already was by far my clearest shot.. and still! Its blur.. but but but!! I'm an angel!! Heh heh... Angels move fast... probably why we can never see them and only feel their presence...
So do you believe in Angels?

Love Cookies
Today has been quite indulgent and relaxing. After having lazed in bed till nearly 11am, the girls and I decided we'd spend the day home making cookies. After some mandatory homework that was finished, we headed down to Phoon Huat which just happens to be across the street from our place to explore what we might want to make. Budget? $10.And we found a pack of cookie premix. $3.30 and all it needed was a 250gm block of butter! $1.90! So simple! I couldn't resist the Jumbo red heart toppings so in it went into our basket. $3.05. We popped by the mini mart and bought some mini M&Ms, $1.40.
Total: $9.65 (Within budget!! Whooot!)
So we dumped the mix into a mixing bowl and mashed in the butter and after a short blend and mix, the dough started to form perfectly and we made little dough balls all over the table.
Lay out the cookie decorations... stuff that we already had at home like... hundreds & thousands rainbow mix sprinkles, pocky strawberry sticks, raisins and glaced cherries. Then we added the brand new additions of mini chocolates and the jumbo hearts!
Eirian spending time making little faces on her tray of cookies.
Eirians' tray. Can see that she has alot of thoughts running about her head by the way she decorates her cookies. Its quite diverse. Hahahaha.
Lauren was a little more systematic and wanted all her cookies to look the same.Eventually after the first batch of mixed decoration. We both settled to making love cookies and cherry cookies with rainbow sprinkles.
After everything was baked and cooled, we packed up 2 boxes and Lauren delivered one up to her classmate. Who happens to live in the same block. She was so proud!! And I was proud that she took pride in what she did and gave them away so generously. I'm sure it will be a topic to talk about tomorrow in class with her friend. :) How nice.
Then we took the other box and went to the mini mart downstairs and gave it to the Aunty there too! She's been really nice to us and Lauren & Eirian were so pleased to give them to her. *proud mommy following them from behind while they did their gifting*
