Here's an interesting link about Poetry at Work Day. Did you know Robert Frost was a chicken farmer?
So to go with the 'theme' of work, here is a quote that I found and saved recently:
All of us have moments when our sense of fulfillment seems to
have evaporated... but we must remember that moods do not determine
misplacement. People who are misplaced, feel unable to function in their
role... they avoid their main task and work feverishly at another to
compensate. Doing their assigned job depresses and frustrates them, because
their heart holds passion for something else. If you are working a job that you
continually dread going to, it is time to do some soul searching. I am convinced
that there is seldom any such thing as a bad employee, just a misplaced one.
This made me think of the phenomena of doing 432 things BESIDES what you are supposed to be doing and thought I would list all the things I routinely do instead of planning/prep work:
Top 10 Things I Do Instead of Work:
1. (eh hem...) Blog
2. Clean the _______________________ (fill in the blank) My house is never more clean than when there is an approaching new semester.
3. Dismantle the refrigerator, clean out and reorganize.
4. Organize my: junk drawer, calendar, bill paying system, skivvies drawer, closet, etc. etc.
5. Wash the dog
6. Make a To-Do List
7. Make Fridge poetry
8. Sort and organize the recycling
9. Organize and clear off laptop screen
10. Start at #1. Rinse. Repeat.
Now, a work-related poem.
The World Outside
A board (bored) room table
circled by experts
picking at threads,
negotiating the inconsequential.
Each grain of sand in the hourglass
heard thundering to the pile of grains
gone.
Meanwhile outside the windowless room
needs go wanting, laughter rings out,
a song filters from an upstairs room,
and the sun flickers through each tree
on its way down.
I like that quote about misplaced employees. Thanks for sharing it.
ReplyDeleteIt seems to resonate with quite a lot of folks! You are welcome!
DeleteWhenever there is no specific theme Monday Listicles, then a list of to-dos is always workable for us all. Some of the things on list are needed done around here. lol I like #1. I am so guilty of doing that instead of housework. :)
ReplyDeleteI wish that were my usual 'to do' list, but it is more like my 'Do anything but______' list when I am avoiding work. I guess I can look on the bright side - the house has never been cleaner/more organized!
DeleteExcellent. I can relate! I like that quote. I do love my job, but sometimes I get distracted and, I guess, not in the mood to do my work. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my blog to leave a comment.

I want to know what that feels like to 'love' a job. I hear people speak of this concept. I am not sure I have encountered that consistently enough to decisively state "I love my job".
DeleteIt was a joy hoping on over to every day miracle!
Love that quotation about work! It's funny how so many people will clean/organize instead of doing work. I'm the same way!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my blog. :)
I am notorious. Strangest phenomenon.
DeleteYou are welcome!
HI! That quote is exactly me right now. Well, I guess I don't dread going to work, but I have lately been feeling like it's kind of sucking the life out of me. Goal for 2014? Find a new job!
ReplyDeleteWhen I'm at work and don't want to work, my biggest 'go to' is to organize or make an Excel spreadsheet. I guess it's because if I'm feeling out of control, it gives me the allusion of having it :)
So, my new blog is up and my old blog is gone. Wasn't intentional, but the spammers got it. But here's the link to the new one! WritesyDaisy.com
Kianwi!!!! Hey!!! Been wondering how you are!!
DeleteThat - the sucking the life out of you part...that is me with mine. I think I have just reached the point of no return and it may just be time to move on. Maybe your goal needs to be mine for this year too?
You are right - I think it is a sense of control when you feel you don't have it that pushes us to do SOMETHING else. I think for me too, it is so that I can 'accomplish' something and see it to the end, because the nature of my work is that one thing might get finished up but there is always SOMETHING else. I don't know. All I know is, my house is in pretty good shape this week!
I can't wait to check out your new blog!! What do you mean, spammers got it? I have wondered about that too, with mine.
Anyway, so glad you came by!!
If Julie Andrews was bald and had a goatee, that would be me.
ReplyDeleteThat is great, Suldog. Glad I'm not alone in the mountain of papers modern life has become!
DeleteWell, OK, I don't wear a dress, but still...
ReplyDeleteToo funny...
Delete"needs go wanting" Love that.
ReplyDeleteThanks, dbs. I think most people can relate to that phrase to some degree or another.
