The date: July 31, 2009 at 10:30 in the morning. This was the precise time when Grace discovered the question, "why?" and the power she can wield with it. She has been using it to exhaustion (ours) ever since. In my opinion, Rob is winning this marathon of verbal questions/answers, hands down. Below is an example of how he handles most of her inquires. I can tell when he's starting to tire because he'll throw out an honest answer but with words that Grace doesn't know yet. It's essentially become an effective way of calling a "time-out."
Grace: Daddy, why is he sad? (referring to a character in her book).
Rob: He's sad because his friend had to move away.
Grace: Why did his friend move away?
Rob: His friend moved away so his mommy and daddy could find work.
Grace: Why do his mommy and daddy need to work?
Rob: Well...that's how a modern economy functions.
Grace: (thinking).
