Custom Refinishes

I have had many questions recently about our custom refinishes and if we offer them at all.

Yes!! We are always happy to work with a client on their own pieces. If you are local to Utah and would like a custom refinish bid please email us (frostedgardner@live.com) a picture of your piece along with dimensions and we would be happy to provide you a bid on a custom refinish!

The Mighty Sailing Ship Artwork

We found this painting a few months back and was drawn to the colors and grandiouse feel of the sailing ship. I quickly knew I wanted to hang it in the boys room. Although their room needs some work I think that this is a start. We have since painted the frame black and it is currently hanging above their beds. However, we are making some adjustments so no photos just yet!

We also plan to incorporate these old oars in their room that we picked up this past summer. As well as a few other vintage items we have accumulated.

In life we have many oceans and deep waters to cross as we make our journey. At times it is rough and at times it is calm and smoothe sailing. At times the adventure seems lonely and discouraging and at times it feels we have it under control and have the world at our fingertips.

I mentioned some personal change approaching and it is now in motion. For some people this change would be uneventful or rather nonemotional. For me, it is filled with some anxiety, excitement, sadness, and a little more anxiety.

But I can do this.
And
I will do this.

Lastly, we are putting the finishing touches on a beautiful bedroom set. I am anxious for the reveal!

Lets Have Cake!

Who doesn't love cake along with a good tea party?

Here is our little one showing off her cake creation yesterday and I don't think she could be more proud! It is a bit hard to see all of her details but there are five candles on top with a nice draping frosting effect around the sides.

I just love this girl. And I know she knows that because I tell her all of the time.

Old Artwork Landscape Series 12

When coming up with a title for this post I was at a loss. So in all honesty - the whole Landscape Series 12 was just something that I made up. The twelve comes from the approximate number of paintings I have picked up this past year at various yard sales, thrift stores, and purchased from KSL. It sounded official and maybe caught your attention? This picture was hanging above the fabulous McCleary buffet and I was a bit surprised no reader asked me about it. Ha! Kidding! I know not everyone shares my love for these old paintings. My hubby being one and my mom another. But hey - we are all entitled to our own opinions and taste. I don't know what my attraction is but we all have busy lives with families, i phones, laptops, church callings, volunteer work, and day to day activities. These paintings display a setting of peace, quietness, long days, and warmth which we all long for as we get through the day. Another thing I like about these old things are the frames. Typically they are quite detailed and already have a natural worn look. I particularly like this one with the levels of detail in the golden colors yet dulled with a bit of old grey peaking through.

Painting and Frame Improvement

I found this oil painting at a second hand store for dirt cheap. The frame was a wreck. It looked like someone had taken gold foil and modge podged it against the beautiful wood detail. The foil was flaking and pulling up and there were bits of the wood detail that were missing.

I think it sat in my car for a few days because I didn't want to show Mike my "treasure." And then imagine my surprise when I walked in the house a few days later and it was sitting there. Hmmmmm. He had found it. I am lucky because he never complains! I just did not want him to think that I am obsessed with oil paintings (even though I am).

He looked at the flaking foil and then at me and said, "So what are we going to do to this one?" Strip the foil! Embrace the spots that have missing pieces as character! Paint and glaze!

We left the inner frame and the beading in gold which I think turned out to be a good decision. It adds another layer of detail.

I think that this painting speaks of peace, long slow days, warmth and happiness. I love the tree in the foreground setting the mood for the little country homes nestled behind it.
I don't think that there could be a better place for this to hang but adjacent to what I call its sister art. The colors and the serene scenes mimic each other. Although they were picked up in two difference places and two completely different times . . . they are a wonderful match!

Another Fab Painting

I do not know what it is about old paintings but I just cannot get enough of them. Especially when I find them for less than the cost of a movie seat!

This painting is from 1939 and nothing about it is going to be changed. Not one - I - o - ta! I cannot get enough of this frame. All of the detail with some gold peaking around the edges are just unforgettable.

It is rather large and is sitting here waiting to be put on the perfect wall. And now I just have to find it. I have a few places in mind - maybe going down the stairs or in a small hallway leading to my little one's room. Can I just tell you how much I hate our gold door knobs! Ugghhh. But the house is up for sale and I really struggle with making any of those changes that we cannot take with us. I am sure alot of you know - but selling a house is for the birds! It is not f - u - n in anyway.
This is a picture I took while sitting in an old rocking chair that I took from my grandmother's house when she moved. I love her rocking chair and I love sitting in it. And I love looking at my new "old" artwork I found last Saturday. Have I mentioned how much I love the frame? hehe

Old Artwork and "How Do You" Questions

My most recent hobby (or obsession) is finding old artwork at a killer price. When I picked this piece up it was in a white frame but it was super flimsy and did not make much of a statement. I have a few frames laying around the house and it just so happens that this fit perfectly. And believe me . . . this does not happen for me often at all! Once it was complete it was ready for its new home which is over our headboard. I have had this bare wall staring at me for years and I just cannot think of anything more perfect than an old oil painting that speaks of peace and calmness on a warm sunny day. I just love the setting in this picture.
I found another super steal of a deal on an oil painting for the boys room this past weekend. Mike has painted the frame and it is already hanging between their beds. I will be posting pictures soon.

On a different note we have received emails and calls concerning how we do what we do. What kind of paint we use. How we distress our pieces. We are compiling notes and will be posting answers to frequently asked questions! This has been a long time coming so we are very excited. If you have feel that you have a question that we have not addressed email us and we will try and get to it! Please be patient with us!

The scene is so calm and peaceful. You can almost feel the slight breeze touch your arms and rustle the trees. Love it, love it!
