Rain, Rain

Seattle, Summer 03

So it's been raining here in SoCal a lot this winter. And I won't lie, most of the time, I love the change in weather, sunny days can get old. I love the sound of rain, it is so soothing, and I love how instantly green it makes the landscape. But, and this is a big but. I have now decided that I cannot live somewhere where there is a ton of rain. It is not condusive to getting out of the house. You can't play at the park, go to the beach, go to amusement parks, or the zoo. You cannot go on walks or bike rides when it is pouring outside. This was not a big deal when I was childless, but now this is a biggie. It cuts out most of our outings. And Lillie and I need to get out. I have always loved Seattle and still do. I just don't know now if I could live there... sigh. Oh and I've also decided I can't live somewhere where there's long winters and a lot of snow. This is really narrowing down my options...

Look What I Made!

So there is this blog... it's listed under my crafty blogs as MADE. And it is done by a girl that used to live in my stake but has since moved away. Anyway, she is the reason, her and Lillie, that I got into sewing about a year and a half ago. She makes amazing things, especially clothing for her kids. I've copied more than a couple of the skirts and dresses that she's made. One time I ran into her at a stake event but I was too starstruck to go talk to her about sewing. You could say she was my first celebrity sighting, I was as giddy as a school girl... Now, back to her blog.
This past month she has focused her blogging on homemade things for boys. Perfect timing for me. I have been so afraid to try sewing pants, but I went out on a limb today and made these pants for Baby Boy to wear to church. They are a wool suiting material, pockets are lined with brown knit and is stitched with orange thread. Once Baby Boy comes, I'm gonna hem them to length. Anyway, I think I'm going to have to try this again!

The Tank

I don't want our second child to feel left out from the blog, so this post will be about him. I went to the doctor at the end of last week for my 24 week visit. I've got traces of protein in my urine, which worries both the doctor and I a little bit. It's something that needs to be watched for my next visit. I measured 30 inches, which is 6 inches bigger than I should, again. Because I haven't gained extra weight, the doctor says it probably just means that I will be having a BIG baby. I always measured right on for Lillie and I never had traces of protein, so this time is differing from last. I'm not all that jazzed about having a big baby, because of complications last time, the doctor has said from the beginning that I'd have to have a c-section if the baby was too big... not what I want. I wasn't worried back then, Lillie wasn't all that big, but I am now. Baby has earned the nickname "Tank". He's an active little guy and when he's kicking me at midnight, keeping me awake, I am reminded of the severe lack of sleep that accompanies newborns and I am scared. It was hard enough last time, when I could nap when Lillie did, but this time will be extra hard if my toddler is not napping or if they don't nap at the same time. Somehow people do it over and over again, so I'm sure I'll survive. I've been finding a lot of ideas on blogs of things that I want to make before the baby comes, blankets, clothing, crib bedding, etc. I wonder if I'll get any of it done. Next week I have to do the glucose test. Super yucky. And diabetes could be a reason for both the protein and large baby, so I'm a little nervous. Fingers crossed!

Seven years ago, Eric proposed to me in his apartment, spur of the moment. He had written this beautiful poem and placed it in a book with the ring in it, pages cutout in the shape of the ring. He was planning on proposing but not that night or in his apartment. It's not the most romantic sounding story, but it was actually really great. I just wish that I hadn't been wearing a ratty old t-shirt, or equally as bad, trying to cover it up with a blanket for the picture, because that looks lame too. Love you, Eric! Thanks for the 7 wonderful years!

Day Three- Morro Bay and Gum Wall

Day three was Sunday and Valentine's Day. We went to a sacrament meeting in San Louis Obispo and made a stop by the mission and the gum wall before heading to Morro Bay. The gum wall was disgusting and interesting. I swear it had a faint minty smell... yucky. But we stuck our gum up, snapped a couple pics and headed to Morro Bay. We trecked out to the "jetty" to watch the waves breaking on the rocks. Because there was a high surf advisory, we saw some massive waves. It was beautiful. The girls had a blast throwing rocks into the water too, so everyone was happy. It was the perfect ending to our trip.

Day Two- San Louis Obispo

So day two didn't start off as great as we would have liked. We had noticed the night before that Lillie had a rash on her legs. I gave her some benadryl and she went to bed. The next morning she was covered in hives, head to toe. So we spent some time in Urgent Care, and didn't find out anything we didn't already know. She's allergic to something, but we don't know what. It was so sad, she was bothered a little by them, especially her feet and it hurt her to walk. But we continued on our journey up the coast, stopping at the Neverland Ranch and Pismo Beach before reaching Morro Bay and finally San Louis Obispo. Pismo Beach was crazy because we were able to drive along on the beach and we saw some awesome wind surfing. It was windy and cold so we didn't spend much time outside the car. Morro Bay was a cute little town, we went through an aquarium (that title is stretching it) and watched the sunset. That night Eric surprised me by taking me to a local playhouse to celebrate Valentine's Day. It was packed and was actually pretty good. They followed the play with a vaudeville act that was hilarious!

Day One- Santa Barbara

We had a very long weekend and so we decided to take a trip up the coast with our friends, Brad, Shanell and Hallie. The first day we spent in Santa Barbara, first eating lunch by the beach, then heading to the zoo and finishing off the day bicycling down the beach and onto the pier. The pizza parlor was so good, we ate there twice, the zoo was amazing, I caught myself saying that over and over, and the sunset on the water so spectacular. I was really worried that because we had had such a great first day, that the rest of the weekend would be a let down, but it just kept getting better and better!

Lillie had an unfortunate encounter with a rogue wave that knocked her off her feet. So she was stuck wearing nothing but my jacket for the rest of the ride, but did amazingly well, since it wasn't super warm.
