Did you SEE what I was wearing?

This morning my phone rings, (RING RING) I checked my caller id and saw that Eric was calling. "Hello."

"Did you SEE what I was wearing when I left for school this morning?!?!"

"Umm, I saw that you were wearing shorts and your ski coat. Which, by the way, I thought was a weird combination."

"Did you see which shorts I was wearing?"

"No."

"I am wearing the shorts with the HUGE hole in them!"

(Laughing hysterically)

"Well, I guess it is a good thing you wore your ski coat today."

"I wasn't wearing my coat when I bent over to pick up my pencil and JJ pinched my butt! Please can you come and pick me up?" Looks like we are going shopping today for some new shorts.

Only in the Mid South

As piano students, Eric and I learned mnemonic devices to help us remember the notes on the lines and spaces on each clef. The phrases we learned for the treble clef are: "Every Good Boy Does Fine" (on the LINES) and "F A C E" (in the SPACES).

While at a primary activity yesterday, one of the girls in our class was telling us that she knows how to read music. When asked if she knows all of the notes, she said, "The spaces spell face and the lines say the phrase
Elvis' Guitar Broke Down Friday." We thought this mnemonic was very fitting for the South.

Nine Months

Eric and I were looking through pictures of Kinsley's first few weeks of life and were amazed to see the changes she has made in such a short period of time. We have always considered her to be petite, but compared to how small she was when she was born, she seems HUGE! We weighed her on our scale today and it said she weighs 17 pounds... almost three times her weight at birth! Also, today while I was picking lint out of her mouth (she can find the smallest things on the carpet and of course puts them in her mouth) I felt her first tooth!!! I tried to get a picture but she wasn't very cooperative so you couldn't see anything. It looks like her second tooth won't be too far behind.

YIKES!!!

Kinsley has found the stairs AND loves climbing them!!!Also, the bathroom has become her favorite room. She loves sticking her hand in the toilet (gross), dumping the garbage out, playing with the plunger, and unrolling the entire roll of toilet paper. All of this happened while trying to get ready this morning.

Spring Break in Branson, MO

After a short visit in Mississippi, we all went to Branson, Missouri (during Eric’s Spring Break). For those of you who don’t know anything about Branson…. it is like a mini Las Vegas- without the gambling, strippers, pornography, wild partying, young people, casinos, scantily clad women, drinking, excessive smoking, prostitution…. Hmm… okay so maybe it isn’t ANYTHING like Vegas but it does have some great shows and a road everyone refers to as the “Strip.”
We had a great time in Branson! It was weird at first because 99.5% of the people there were over the age of 65; our family made up the other 0.5%. It was their off-season so none of the shows were packed. The first night, we went to a variety show called Pierce Arrow. The comedy act was by far the best. We also went to an a cappella show called SIX. We were all amazed at all of the different sounds that came out of their mouths.
On our last night in Branson we went to the Dixie Stampede (a dinner show). Before the show, we went to the stables to show Kinsley the horses. She was very intrigued by them and kept wrinkling her nose at them. While our waitress was serving us food, she said Kinsley looked as big as her niece and guessed her age to be six months. I informed her that she was eight months old and then my dad loudly said, “She is a midget.” Guess who was sitting right next to Eric… a “little person."During the show Eric and I were asked to participate. He was instructed to race across the arena and pick out a horse for us to ride for a barrel race. I thought to myself “Grandpa Beck is going to be so proud that I rode this horse around some barrels.” As Eric picked a horse, I remembered one vital piece of information…. I am terrified of horses. I contemplated walking out of the arena but then the MC informed us that he chose from the wrong horses. We were going to ride STICK horses around the arena. Embarrassing…. Yes… but I didn’t break my neck doing it.Kinsley must have really missed her Grandparents and her Aunt Kristi because she cried all of the way home (5.5 hours). Eric and I were pretty much frazzled by the time we arrived home and were even more frazzled as Kinsley cried for four more hours… she refused to eat but we finally got her to stop screaming by rocking her to sleep. Not to worry, today was a better day and she is almost back on her schedule.

Family Fun In The Mid-South

My parents and sister came to visit us from Idaho. They arrived late on Tuesday and we have had a great time!
Kinsley loves her Aunt Kristi and considers her wheelchair her new favorite toy.
Kinsley loves her Grandma and Grandpa... except when Grandpa stuffs sweet potatoes up her nose... then again, if he did that to me I wouldn't like him either.
Eric gave my parents and sister a tour of his school. He showed them where he works, introduced them to one of his professors, showed them a lab, and gave my dad an eye exam (Eric says he is an exophoric presbyope--which means he's wall-eyed and OLD).
We spent an evening walking down Beale Street, listening to music and browsing shops. Beale Street has been playing the blues for more than half a century. Its heyday was in the 1920's, when the area took on a carnival atmosphere and gambling, drinking, prostitution, murder, and voodoo thrived alongside the booming nightclubs, theaters, restaurants, stores, pawnshops, and hot music. Good or bad... Beale Street has created some memories.
One day we went to the Peabody Hotel- which is famous for its ducks. Every day at 11:00 am the Duck Master rolls out a red carpet and 5 ducks ride down the elevator, walk the red carpet, and then they spend the afternoon in the hotel fountain. Then at 5:00 pm they do it again in the reverse order and then they spend the night in their home on the eleventh floor. Kinsley was pretty fascinated by the ducks.

Unfortunately my parents brought winter weather with them. Last week the weather was in the 60's and 70's (hence my dad wearing shorts) but last night we had a "blizzard" (in Idaho we call it a snow flurry) and this morning, as we were getting ready for church, we found out that, due to the inclement weather, church was canceled! My dad was pretty disgusted because there was hardly any snow on the ground. We ended up sitting in our living room and having a Sunday School lesson.
