Photo Shoot

I looked all over for a Halloween costume for Kinsley but I couldn't justify spending $20 on a costume she wouldn't remember wearing. (When you have no income and are living on student loans, you have a strict budget and it is hard to deviate from it) I got online, learned how to make a tutu, and five dollars later this is what I ended up with. I thought the tutu turned out super cute so I decided to see how good I was with photography. Three days and 200+ pictures later this is what I ended up with. Just so my mom doesn't worry... Mom, when we take her to the trunk-or-treat she will be wearing a onesie and tights. She will NOT be naked. I just like naked baby pictures! =)

Pierce Top Ten

Letterman always does a Top Ten List so we thought we would try.

Kinsley had her 4 month check-up today. After waiting 2 1/2 hours in the doctors office (She had an appointment at 10:15) we were called back. TEN minuets later and $120 poorer we left. The nurse spent 5 minuets with us weighing and taking her measurements and the doctor spent 5 minuets writing a prescription for vitamins and telling me "She looks healthy. We will see you in two months." Are these doctor appointments REALLY necessary!?!?!

Our CRAMMED Saturday

Those of you who know Eric really well, know that he LOVES planning activities. Every weekend in high school, Eric planned fun activities that we could do, such as: building a fort in the basement and watching Kindergarten Cop, building "space shuttles" for eggs and then throwing them off of the high school roof to see which shuttle was built better, whip cream fights, going to nursing homes and take turns playing the piano and singing, bike riding to the butte to watch the sun come up, going down the "cruise" with the fire extinguisher and spraying people, etc... Yes, life in high school was never boring with Eric around.

Things haven't really changed. Eric still loves to plan things (he says he hates it and yet he continues to do it). Yesterday was a good example of this. At 9:00 it was our turn to clean the church. When we got home it was time to go to Memphis because Eric had an intramural football game. When we arrived to the field and saw the opposing team, we thought we were at the wrong field. They did NOT look like your typical optometry student (glasses, geeky). Instead, they had tattoos and massive muscles-- bigger than Eric's waist (I thought they looked like the Oakland Raiders)! I was worried that the other team would crush not only Eric's team's pride but their bodies as well. Miracles have not ceased because Eric's team won (25-20)!!! We found out later that the opposing team's players were not optometry students, rather, boyfriends of optometry students (which explains a lot).After the victory we drove back to Mississippi so Eric could shower and we could eat lunch. While at home we decided to get gas-- we were happily surprised to see that gas here is $2.25! We thought we would never see gas below $3 ever again!!!

After we were fed and cleaned we drove back to Memphis and Eric took us to one of the labs at the school and he gave me an eye exam (he has a lab-test on Thursday). He has to do a series of tests/exams in under 20 minuets but it took him over and hour to do them on me... looks like he will be hitting the labs next week for some more practice! He says I was a bad patient because I didn't follow his directions very well and I told him he was a bad doctor for telling me I was a bad patient. Doesn't look like I will be going to the labs again any time soon.

After retinoscopy, we drove back to Mississippi. The missionaries came over for a short visit and taught us a lesson on how to be better missionaries. Our next destination was Lake Arkabutla. We met up with a bunch of couples from our ward and had tin foil dinners and s'mores. Since Eric planned SOOO many activities, we were a few hours late to the lake. We got there in time to see the sunset. It was a very pretty lake with a great beach that will be really fun to use in the summer time. Kinsley cried/screamed the majority of time while we were there and the entire car ride home. Even though gas is cheap I think she would prefer a weekend at home... (*sigh*) if we could only talk Eric into it....

Learning To Sit

Trip to the Pumpkin Patch

We spent the afternoon at Cedar Hill Farm, learning about chickens at the "country chicken coop" (puppets like chuck e cheese teach you about farm stuff), getting pictures taken of Kinsley, looking at animals at the petting zoo, watching the corn cob gun launch its ammo 300+ ft, pumpkin shopping at the pumpkin patch, etc. If Kinsley would have lasted another four hours, we also would have tried out the corn maze, the haunted trail of terror, and the hay ride (the fun stuff for big kids starts after dark). Kiley dared Eric to get "princess" painted on his face but he was too chicken. Eric argues that he proved his bravery the night before...






(tangent story about the night before)...

...The missionaries came over to share the new member missionary program last night. They showed us a short video that goes with Preach My Gospel and asked what thoughts came to our minds during the video. Kiley (the reverent/righteous one) shared her experience going on splits with the sister missionaries back home:

"After Eric left for his mission, I was thinking about going on a mission... until I went on splits with the Sisters. They took me tracting and I HATED it! So, if I didn't enjoy it, maybe other missionaries dislike tracting and maybe we, as members of the Church, should invite our friends and neighbors to learn more so that you (missionaries) don't have to knock doors."

"And Brother Pierce, what thoughts came to your mind?" asked Elder S.

(long hesitation) "uh... I don't know if I should say..."

"We want to hear" said Elder T.

"...I was thinking about how I could be a better member missionary and I thought of how different this area is from back home... here, the neighbors all come out just before sun-down and hang out on their porches. So, I pictured myself getting a stool and dressing up in my white shirt and tie (at this point, Eric has climbed up onto the coffee table and raised his arms into the air) and shouting, 'HEAR YE HEAR YE, REPENT AND BE BAPTIZED!! HEARKEN TO THE WORD OF THE LORD AND BE SAVED!!!'"

(on top of the coffee table, Eric hollered out what went through his mind during the video while the missionaries and Kiley laughed hysterically)

After a good 2 minutes belly chuckle, Kiley said, "The embarrassing thing is that I can see him actually doing that!"

So, Eric proved that he's NOT a chicken by demonstrating his spread-the-gospel plan.

** Kiley adds, perhaps Eric's missionary plan works because we had 3 of our neighbors and 5 of their children at church today! They all enjoyed it and said they would like to go again next week! **
