Thursday Morning Tab Clearing

AI may be good for some comedy:

Meanwhile, it is being alleged that the companies involved in AI are hiding huge amounts of debt in the same way that Enron did.

It’s an extremely costly undertaking built on seemingly bottomless hype — and a mountain of debt. As Japanese financial newspaper Nikkei Asia found in a recent investigation, just five US tech giants — Alphabet, Microsoft, Amazon, Meta, and Oracle — are hiding an estimated $1.65 trillion in debt that doesn’t appear on balance sheets. That’s even more than the $1.35 trillion in debt the five companies officially reported in their financial data for the most recent quarter.

Meta alone has amassed around $420 billion in off-balance-sheet debt, according to Nikkei, highlighting how precarious the AI industry’s steep investment in AI has become, and inspiring comparisons to energy company Enron, which collapsed in spectacular fashion in 2001 because of similar debts hidden behind shell companies. Like Enron, they’re using special purpose vehicles, or off-balance sheet arrangements such as legally distinct subsidiaries, as a way to make their financial reporting look healthier than it actually is — often a glaring sign that something is deeply amiss behind the scenes.

We'll see if our largely corporate-owned media covers this. It's probably a good bet that you won't see a mention of it on CBS or in the WaPo. When the AI bubble bursts, it could be bad.

Elsewhere, Julie DiCarlo, a reporter, posted this:

It's funny how many men come into my mentions to "protect women's sports" but have zero other posts talking about women's sports, or even women, in any kind of meaningful or supportive way.

— Julie DiCaro (@juliedicaro.bsky.social) July 29, 2026 at 8:58 PM

She is exactly right. Trump and the rest of his ilk have done nothing to support women's sports, other than requiring genital checks. They've been ramming through anti-abortion laws that have essentially required doctors to let women having problem pregancies die. And they haven't scrapped Blanche's nomination because of his active role in hiding All Things Epstein.

Fauci Hearings Today

One thing about the hearing today:

Republicans have nothing for the 2026 election.

They really don't. They have nothing to energize their suporters. Inflation's up, gas prices are up because of Trump's Stupid War, Trump is fixated on bullshit like his ballroom and the GOP is doing zip point shit to help the American people. The only people left that support him are his MAGA loyalists. Only Nixon as he was being shown the door was less popular.

Because they have nothing, they're not trying to persuade people to vote for them. What they are trying to do is gin up enthusiasm among their base to vote by revisiting QAnon's greatest hits: COVID and the 2020 election.

Yet here's the thing: They like to forget who was the president when the COVID pandemic hit, who was the president who signed off on the mask mandates and who ramrodded the fast development and production of the COVID vaccine. But we all know that it was their guy, the Demented and Bloated Orange Narcissist-in-Chief, good old Agent Kraznov, himself.

A Country of Stupid Political Elites

You would think that after Vietnam and Iraq, America would have recognized the danger of giving the president a blank check for foreign adventurism.

You would think. But with a malignant narcissist in the Oval Office, surrounded by a staff of yes-men and at least one low-wattage drunkard, there's not a single adult in the room. Not a single person to say "this is a bad idea, Boss".

As a result, historians are debating which war turned out worse for the United States than Trump and Bibi's Big Beautiful War and they're having trouble. Red Cloud's War was a defeat, but it only postponed things. The only reason that the War of 1812 wasn't a total defeat was that the British were war-weary after a generation of fighting the Napoleonic Wars.

It's time to take the keys to starting wars away from the presidency and give them back to Congress, as the Constitution intended.

Anyway, this is like Trump blockading the blockade:

Trump's Latest Poseur

Markwayne Mullen, current senator and former owner of a plumbing business, who likes to pretend that he was some sort of special operator, one with no military service and no known training:

Senator Markwayne Mullin had a major meltdown Wednesday as senators from both sides of the aisle questioned him about a supposedly classified mission he traveled on as member of Congress—and in doing so, may have threatened his speedy confirmation vote.

It seems the only thing Democrats and Republicans can agree on is that Mullin’s claims about a classified mission stink to high heaven. During Mullin’s Senate confirmation hearing, Senators Gary Peters and Rand Paul pressed the Oklahoma Republican on his claims about having received combat experience abroad, even though he never enlisted in the U.S. military.

Mullin claimed that he couldn’t disclose any information about the mission unless the senators sought special clearance—but he wouldn’t say from whom or what agency
.

Right, because the spook agencies like to send sitting congressmen on classified missions for which they have had no training.

He's just another fucking poseur, a stolen-valor dude who is saying "it's classified" to cover up his lies. Mullen's a loudmouthd pussy who relies on his physical size to bully people.

I have to hand it to Trump: It was a hard task to find a nominee for DHS Secretary who was less-qualified than Kristi Noem, but Trump pulled it off.

Republicans: Willfully Blind or Just Stupid?

I had the TV on this morning. Some Republican congressman was bleating about how we've had nothing but trouble from the Iranian regime since 1979 and that we've been in pretty much a state of war with them for 47 years.

That was a pretty good encapsulation of why we're never going to be free of this mess, because morons like that worthy either don't know of our past history with Iran and don't understand that the problems stem from the last time we executed regime change there in 1953.

Now we're going to try and do assassinations and regime change by bombing? What lunatic comes up with that idea?

Meanwhile, Trump has set two precedents that might come back to haunt him:
  1. It is OK to use the military to assassinate national leaders, and
  2. Former presidents can be compelled to testify, under oath.

#2 may be the route to finally clap his orange ass in the pokey. But we shall see,

Trump's On-Air Fit

I watched as much of his remarks as I could stand.

Gentle Readers, do you not understand, now? He's fucking crazy, up there ranting that he can bomb countries and embargo trade but he can't charge a tariff. Calling the conservative justices who ruled against him "disloyal" (Roberts, Barret, Gorsuch) and all but inviting his MAGA Flying Monkeys to go after them and their families?

He's lost his shit, in public on live TV. The rest of the world must be laughing at us for having elected this unhinged nutcase, twice. He used language that he'd never dream of saying about Putin, who has stabbed him in the back so many times that Donnie's little more than a Russian pincushion.

And yes, if Biden had done that, the "smart people" would be yammering about impeachment and/or the 25th Amendment.

Reporting is that Republicans in Congress are privately relieved that the Supreme Court struck down Trump's tariffs.

Well, fuck them, too. They are gutless cowards, every last one of them. They're hiding behind the black robes of theSupreme Court, instead of standing up and doing their fucking jobs. as the superior branch of government that they are supposed to be (because they're in Article I of the Constitution).

ICE Barbie is the Dumbest Shitbird in the Cabinet

She credited the Orange Piggy with controlling the weather.

Kristi Noem: "Sir, you made it through hurricane season without a hurricane. You kept the hurricanes away. We appreciate that."

And he's dumb enough to believe he can control the weather with his Magic Sharpie.

Massive Trumpist Hypocrite

Nancy Mace, who is taking credit for things that happened as a result of a law which she voted against.

That was a result of the 2021 infrastructure bill, which she voted against. She is lucky that the Democrats don't operate like Trump, or that grant would have never happened.

Macy is a horrible excuse for a human being, let alone a congresscritter.

Nancy Mace is an Arrogant, Entitled Piece of Shit

She was berating the cops and the TSA officers at an airport because, I guess, they didn't lie down and let her walk across their bodies.

Her media staff puke tried to play the Charlie Kirk card. I'm betting the cops weren't impressed.

After all, this is the party that says they back the blue, except when they're beating them with flagpoles,

The Rest of DOGE Should Only be Beaten Into Comas

More than 300 million Americans’ Social Security data was put at risk after Department of Government Efficiency officials uploaded sensitive information to a cloud account not subject to oversight, according to a whistleblower disclosure submitted to the special counsel’s office Tuesday.

Whistleblower Charles Borges, who worked as the chief data officer at the Social Security Administration since January, said the potential sensitive information that risks being released includes health diagnoses, income, banking information, familial relationships and personal biographic data.

“Should bad actors gain access to this cloud environment, Americans may be susceptible to widespread identity theft, may lose vital healthcare and food benefits, and the government may be responsible for re-issuing every American a new Social Security Number at great cost,” said the complaint.

This is what happens when you give a bunch of punks who are barely old enough to shave the ability to fuck with the lives of everyone. Kids that are are both arrogant and unable to see the ramifications of what they are doing.

This is why kids are riflemen and attacks are planned by those who know what the hell they are doing. Every one of those DOGE assholes should be fired and prosecuted.

Or give them a reflectve vest, a garbage bag, a grabber and set them to work doing the job they're best suited to.

The Dumbest Bill Since Indiana Tried to Define Pi.

The bought-and-paid-for morons in the legislature are defining natural gas as "green energy".

Next up, Louisiana will pass a law that dirt is one of the most important food groups.

Nobody expects honest government in Louisiana, they make the Texas legislature look good. But this bill is a prizewinning example of both corruption and stupidity. The Indiana Pi bill, in comparison, was only stupid.

What Passes for Good News Under the Orange Demented Fascist

The economy didn't contract as much as they feared.

The economy was growing for the last three years under Biden, ever since the pandemic ended. And then this Felonious Fool came along and began crashing everything. Of course, you'll never get his cult-followers to acknowledge that.

Oklahoma is for Morons

As part of the latest Republican push in red states to promote ideologies sympathetic to Donald Trump, Oklahoma’s new social studies curriculum will ask high school students to identify “discrepancies” in the 2020 election results.

Alchemy will be taught instead of chemistry, creationism and spontaneous generation in biology, flat-eartherism in geography class and so on.

Because MAGA don't need no book learning to install the tiny screws in iPhones.

ICE Becomes The Thought Police

If you import a recipie or any other idea without an idea visa, ICE will arrest it.

The shit coming out of the Fascist Barbie the Puppy Killer's domain is just getting stupidly weird.
