We had a great thanksgiving! As soon as I get off my lazy bum, I'll post some pictures and fill in some of the details! But for now, I wanted to talk about boys. My two younger brothers and their wives both have girls. One sister-in-law just had her first boy and the other will get her a little boy this week. It's started me thinking about the fun they're in for. Boys. They're different from girls. Really different. My boys have kept me on my toes for the last 13 years. I wish I could remember every little thing they've done, but I think due to the trauma, I've blocked lots of it.
Kiddo #2 was a pretty mellow little fellow, at first. He didn't talk until he was 3. He sucked his thumb and picked at blankets. He literally picked apart a twin sized quilt. There was nothing left. He loved balls. He couldn't walk, but he'd drag our hockey sticks around the house. He was climbing the walls before he was in school. He dumped out his potato bug collection all over our kitchen. There we're lots of potato bugs. He's a
jokester. One of the cabinets in the kitchen doesn't stay closed very good. He ALWAYS walks into the kitchen and smacks that door with his hand and then says "ouch". And I ALWAYS run to check if he's
ok. Of course he's sitting there laughing. The one time I didn't check to see if he was
ok, he'd really run into the door. He kicked his shoe off one day, right through the bedroom window. He can wiggle his eyes really funny. He likes to go grocery shopping with me. He's figured out if he goes, he can usually talk me into a treat. Plus he loves doing tricks with the carts. We're going to get kicked out one day, but until then. . . He loves to tease. LOTS. He must be his fathers son. Yesterday he came upstairs and informed me that he had to go to the bathroom downstairs and that there was no toilet paper. He then shoves a finger in my face that's covered in brown make-up. Gross!!!
Kiddo #4 was never mellow. He loved to throw tantrums. He loved to climb! None of the others had climbed. He made up for it. I found him in window sills that were 3 feet off the ground. He loved climbing on top of the computer monitor. He could climb before he could walk. I babysat another little boy who's the same age. When they were younger, those two were TROUBLE! The things those two little brains came up with still amazes me. I would go through a jumbo size bag of malt-o meal cereal a day. They would get it and dump it all over the floor and then jump and play in it. I know, put the cereal where they couldn't get it. I wish I could have found that place. It didn't matter if I locked it, hid it, moved it. They found it and dumped it. They also went through bags of rice. Butter. Chips. Nothing was safe. But they had great times together. Kiddo #4 knocked out 4 of his front teeth and gouged the handle bars on his bike with his other ones. He was learning to ride a bike. To bad he hadn't figured out the brakes yet. He's sliced his big toe open on a magnetic white board. He loved to pee outside! Every time I'd turn around, he was out there doing his business. He was my first driver. He snuck my keys one day, snuck outside, put the keys in, turned it just enough that he could put it in to gear, backed the car down the drive way into the road. He put it back in park, snuck back in the house, and put the keys back. My neighbors came several hours later to see if we were
ok, because the car had been sitting in the middle of the road all day. He's really a quiet kid, he loves to be outside and winter is a hard time of year when he can't be out exploring as much. He also loves to take things apart (I figured that was nicer than saying he likes destroying things.). I just wish he'd stick to only tinkering with his own things and not everyone
elses!
Kiddo #5 is a worrier. He's a mamma's boy. His whole year of kindergarten was spent with me dragging him to school. He learned to crawl down stairs head first. He never would turn around and go backwards. He loves to be running around. I found him outside one winter. He had
shoveled the driveway and then the road in front of our house. He has a short temper. He's a pretty mellow kid for the most part but has a lightning fast fuse when it's set off. My poor cousin's little boy was his personal chew toy when they were little. I'm glad they're still friends. He's a little ball of energy.
Kiddo #7 is a character. He gets into way to much stuff. But being the baby of the family can't do anything when you ask him to. He makes me laugh on a daily basis. He's quite the storyteller. He doesn't hold still for more than 30 seconds. Ever. And he likes to eat. All the time. They all do!
I hope that these new little fellows who are joining our family are as much fun as mine have been, and I hope their mamma's are FULL of patience! They're most likely going to need it!
