Blink, Floyd

Another Brick In The Wall

A wall in Wadebridge, Cornwall, built for teenage graffiti artists has been vandalised - by an angry resident writing: "I paid my tax and all I got was this lousy wall." The $6,000 wall was installed so youths could practice graffiti without defacing local property. But before it was formally opened the angry resident daubed his protest

To Be Shore, To Be Sure

Hoax British Beach Doesn’t Exist

A Cornish joker, Jonty Haywood, has set up a website to lure tourists to a beach that doesn't exist. A website for the fake Porthemmet beach boasts it is the best in the county and the only one in Britain "to allow topless sunbathing". It quotes Bill Oddie as supposedly saying: "Porthemmet and its surroundings are one of last remaining natural treasures of the British Isles." But its name gives the game away to locals as "emmet" is a derogatory word for tourist in Cornwall. The site tells unwitting visitors an emmet is someone who loves Cornwall and says if they tell residents they are emmets they will fit in fine.

Ducks Of Their Class

We Shall Flight Them On The Beaches

Want a (slightly faded) rubber duck? Just keep your eyes peeled the next time you're at the beach. A fleet of 29,000 rubber ducks will soon wash up on Cornwall beaches - after a 15-year, 17,000-mile epic journey. The bath toys were set adrift in the Pacific after a container was washed off a cargo ship in 1992. The metal container was corroded by sea water, freeing the China-manufactured yellow ducks, blue turtles, red beavers and green frogs. Their colour has since faded to white and they have been tracked across the world, with some turning up in Alaska, Siberia, Japan, Iceland and Canada. Collectors pay up to $1000 for the toys, which have The First Years stamped on them.
