Thoughts In The Flight

I am sitting at the most corner at the back of the plane together with my parents while writing this on the flipped grey in color plastic table. I am thrilled and excited with this family trip to Tawau since many months ago. In fact, my excitement has been triggered ever since the suggestion to have a family trip at Sabah being brought out by dad.

I love Sabah,  and I always do. The idea of natural and greenery environment catches my heart most. I still remember how my trip to Kota Kinabalu 3 years ago was fun, touched and memorable. It was a moment that I do not need any electronic devices to accompany me, except my camera. It was also a moment that I was living closely with greens.

Looking at the ‘cloudless’ scenery from the plane’s back window has caused my heart beating furiously. I couldn’t stop myself from clicking the camera’s shutter button while at the same time, admiring every ‘group of clouds', or the enormous South China Sea or the appearance of nicely shaped islands. When I say nicely shaped, it means artistically beautiful Smile

I have not been in such a state for a long time where I could relax and innocently enjoy my surrounding. Or like what the meditation term explained, being just or being in the moment. I guess, I have reached a point where I am at the higher stage of meditation because my mind just purely enjoying what I am seeing, hearing and feeling with no cognitive activities taken place.

Ok lah., Maybe I did lie. I have not actually reached the higher state of meditation as I am doing lot of thinking at this very spot I am sitting, even now when I am blogging, I am actually thinking.

Well, I just enjoy this moment with no worries over chasing the syllabus or pushing my students to finish up PBS, or stressing up with administration work, or forcing the minds to come out with creative and strategic ideas to execute my lesson plans.

Today and in these few days, I just want to live in the moment and enjoy the beauty of Tawau. I placed little expectation on this trip because I want to discover this new place by myself without Googling and asking anyone about it. It is like going for a movie without reading the synopsis. So, we will see what I will discover in these few days.

Some random photos I took with my webcam while still on the plane. Haven’t done this for a long time. So, bear with me. Lol..

Confidence Lies Behind The Sweet Smile

Of late, I have been so ‘un-paisheh’ (thick face or tak malu in local terms) in asking my mum, “Mummy, how on Earth did you give birth to such a beautiful daughter? Any secret behind?”.

Lol..
I don’t know what makes me feel so. Probably I have been attracting too much of love to myself using Law Of Attraction by showing gratitude with whatever I see, hear, smell, taste and feel. The power is magnificent that whenever I look into the mirror, I will tell myself, “You’re so beautiful” ;)

Psychologically, this kind of self-talk is healthy as it is a source of building higher self-esteem (I still remember my psychology!). However, I am still not very used to complementing  myself in such a way. It could be most probably because I am born an Asian. Self compliment is still very rare among the community.

Well, there is nothing to worry about because beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder. I think I’m beautiful and so are you ♥

So, for a the new week:

Let cheers for an empowering new week from a beautiful girl with a sweet smile *super boh pai sheh mode* ;)

10 New Promises A Soon-To-Be Transformational Teacher Made For Herself.

#1 Rest More Cikgu Telur
First of all, I would want to promise myself that I will own more resting time starting from next Monday after finishing all my lesson planning for the new week and month. I don't want to stay up late or wake up too early to spend long hours on daily planning. It’s tiring. I need to be more effective in order to treat myself and my students better. Those panda eyes should be get rid of immediately!

 school5

#2 Remember my students’ names
I am still having a terrible time on remembering my students’ names – about 240+ of them. Each day, I need to ask my students for their name (again, and again). This is already the 8 weeks and I could only remember 10% of the names, 40% of the faces. Omigosh! Since small, I am bad in remembering names. It seems like names don’t stick in my brain. That’s also why I am bad with history and biology because there are too many names and terms to be remembered >.<

student1 My current initiative is to ask them write down and decorate their names and ambitions interestingly on a piece of A4 paper. Then, the name tag will be place on their own table.

I wonder, do you have any secret that work for you and you would want to share? Please do.

#3 Understand my students’ dreams
In this particular first year, I wish to be able to understand as many of my students’ dreams. I want to know them personally as a person and their goals in life so that I am able to offer my help and service better. I believe that knowing one’s life purposes and goals in life are essential because that is what keep us in purpose and alive.

We want to know what we are capable of, what make us thick and how we can contribute back to the society. Thus, I hope to be able to reach as many students as possible. I realize, many of my students at the age of 13 have little awareness on what they want in life and dreams (this happened to me too back in those ages). Maybe they are still young but this is a good time to expose them to the bigger picture for their own benefit. I am teaching Maths and Civic and I had done this activity to all my classes. Would want to discover more whenever there are chances.

school2

#4 Be more religious.
I promise to be more religious towards completing my Teacher’s Lesson Record Log Book starting from today. I will write my brief lesson plans as early as possible (because normally I write my lesson plans in another format). I will wrap it up and add some spices in so that it is no longer in green I want it to be pink!

school6

#5 Get involved with more students in different classes.
I would love widen my ‘friendship circle’ with more students from other classes and forms in the coming days. I realize I could have the chance and opportunity while I am patrolling students’ disciplines during recess or relief absence teacher’s class. Or maybe during school activities too like co-curriculum and sport activities.

school1

#6 Be a student’s tracker expert!
As a Teach For Malaysia fellow, we need to track students’ academic performance in class as often as possible (better for daily). We will key in their result on every successful Independent Practice session (where students attempt question by themselves after the lesson to test their understanding). I need to learn and pick up so that I could key in the data instantly.

school7

#7 Plan more interesting activities for Maths Club!
I am assigned as one of the Maths Club supervisors. We need to think and plan activities for the club. So far, I had done a funny yet interesting games to my students. It was about determine the perimeter of the school hall using the items you picked. Lol.. one of the students picked a clipboard and the group had to use the item and make calculation. So cute but then, it is still related to Maths especially reflecting on the ancient days when ruler and length unit had not been introduced. Anyway, hahaha.. they are  still funny! What a good cikgu, laughing at her own students =D =D =D

school9
They enjoyed the activity and I am glad to know it. Thus, now I need to plan more fun activities for the club. Emm.. idea.. idea….

#8. Wear more cute stuff?
I am a bit doubtful to type this but then… well.. ok.. I am gonna write this. I am gonna wear more cute stuff to school because, eventually students like to describe me as ‘comel’ (cute). I don’t know why but they will express the word doubtlessly.  If that is the case, I am gonna wear more cute stuff like this?

school4Bought by Calv at Jonker Street. I still have a pair of pandas and owls.
Kawaii neh~
^_^

#9 Do more market survey.
Yes, I should do more market survey to gain inspiration and ideas for my lesson in class. I want to connect my students with the picture of the real world. This can help to cultivate their creative and critical mind. So yes, let me do the tough job.

Example:
Why do we learn circles and radius? (Can you guess the answer?)

school8

And how and why does sales work? =))

school81

If you have any great, awesome and useful idea for the children, do share with me here! I would really appreciate your help =D

#10 Stop admiring the sky.
I had been warned not to admire the sky anymore because.. emm…. i am not gonna say it. Just see the picture I took when I was on the way back to home. The full-of-hope-sky-picture =P

school3

All right. Time to learn to obey my #1 promise.
Wish me have another meaningful lessons for the children tomorrow. Thank you.
Good night everyone <3

Have I Made You Smile?

They say, nothing beats a beautiful smile.
I say, nothing beats a funny look.

Often, I don’t like to admit that I have cute or funny face because that adjectives don't impress me. Somehow, after 24 years of makan nasi dan membesar, I have to agree that.... I do have a very funny that can make people smile.

Playing with my camera's smile detection function. It will automatically snap when it detects smile. I think i look like a retarded person more. Oh my.

I grow up and have this new perception that, life doesn't have to be all serious and dull. Ones should relax and add in some humors in themselves as I believe we have enough stress in everyday life. Bringing out the playful side once in awhile even at the age of an adult (who cares!?) wouldn't do harm. In fact, it allows the happy hormone regulate the body - and you will become more cheerful!

So my question now is, have my funny face made you smile?

Will You?

Will you still love the way I am if one day, I changed?

Will you still visit my blog if one day, I don’t blog as frequent as I used to?
Will you still read if one day, I changed topics that I used to write?
Will you still remember me if one day, curryegg is no longer existing? (maybe she has turned into currychicken? curryostrich? curryfish? currypanda? )
Will you still response if one day, I started writing crap like this?

Will you?
And will you?

Perfectionism Kills Inspiration

I was always… and still always…

a perfectionist who have the tendency to do and finish work, perfectly perfect.
I would rather delay my time in the search for the ‘Best Inspiration’, and then only commit in doing the work.

It happens to my coursework, assignment, housework, making presents and even when it comes to blogging. I find it hard to start a task especially those which I am fully passionately, committed and excited with. Often, I realize I have high hope to make the best work which end up consuming lengthy hours to complete or worse, not doing at all – if inspiration doesn’t hit me. This perfectionism frustrates especially when I procrastinate my work and most of the time, finish at the very last minute.

In every last minute work which is imperfectly done, I thought I’d learned my lesson. Every time, I swear and promise to start my future task earlier so that I can complete in time. Well, when you read such ranting post, it’s obvious that my attempt failed… =(

I came across with an article, discussing about creative people often procrastinate and delay their work because they want to find the best idea. Perfectionism is a common trait among creative people – and I cheerfully put myself into the group which give me an excuse for my delayed work. Hey, I want the best work ma. So I find the best idea and finish later lor.

However, I don’t feel myself productive at all. Looking at my blog achieve for example, I don’t write much blog entries over the years. I realize I wrote the most in the year of 2008 and it reduces throughout the years –

Years Number of blog posts
2007 163
2008 271
2009 181
2010 119
2011 *50

Gosh! I only make 50 egg entries so far for this year? o_O

It might due to my buziness and other personal reasons for the reduced number of blog posts. But, I also realize that the other reason is due to my perfectionism. I don’t write if I can’t find the best inspiration. I don’t write if I don’t have the best list of photos. I don’t blog until the so and so reason.

Well, I find it hard to simply publish unorganized blog post especially when I have more readers now. I will carefully write and insert photos in each of my blog and it ended up take a very long time. I have this feeling of not wanting to loss my readers (you) with my ‘imperfect post’ for example unedited photos, unorganized thoughts and etc. Thus, there is a tendency to impress my reader more than myself.

I don’t mean that carefully organized writing is not good. Of course, I want quality work. Just, I don’t like the idea of losing my spontaneous side  to complexity. This awareness was formed when I visited a bookstore yesterday and I came across with this good book on ‘Creative Writing’. There is a page which written,

Postpone perfection

Perfectionism can kill writing, cutting it dead as it tries to emerge. There is a time for perfecting writing and it is not at the outset. But what if you find it painful to produce clumsy, ineffective lines or sentences? You should understand that all writers, even the most experienced, can write badly. The gift of writing is a power that flickers – everyone has mediocre days as well as magical. Try to cultivate an attitude of curiosity.

Book: Creative Writing – Edited by Linda Anderson (page 21)

I find a strong connection with the above discussion. It’s true. Perfectionism kill my joy of writing sometimes. I was thinking, why perfectionism occur in me?  I shared similar discussion in my last post on the perfectionist nerd. Is it because I am a Virgo? Or is it because I am a right-brainer? Or is it because I am being taught so?

It didn’t take me long to come up with a conclusion that, I am afraid to fail. I am afraid to portray a silly side of me. I am afraid to be judged. And, I am afraid to be seen as useless. Thus, I always want to show a stronger intellectual side of me. Probably, this also affects my blogging style – write a Grade A post or don’t write at all… =_=

I do admit that I have this perfectionist trait in me. The good news is, it can be balanced up as we aged – said Dr. Diana. And I want to cultivate my magical side through spontaneous writing starting by today. I used to blog very freely back in year 2007-2008 (can be seen on the above table).

I do think that I don’t have to show my perfectionist side in my own personal blog. After all, this is not a professional website. I am allow to make mistake, silly writing and uninteresting post, right?

A random photo. This was taken yesterday after my bookstore visit. Met my birdies for maybe the first and last mall gathering. They are Shu Huan and Adibah (Brunei).

Showing the silly sides of me (us) XD

It’s time for a change in curryegg. Don’t ask me what will it be because, I don’t know.. yet.. Let’s hope for more eggs in future =P

P/s: Wow, I have wrote a lengthy post in a short time without me realizing it. It works! =D

Panda Is Eggie’s New Best Friend

If you still remember some of my doodles on my imaginary curryegg, I believe the below drawing wouldn’t be new to you. Probably it is different because of the additional red bow on her head. Lol…

If you are unsure of what I am writing about, don’t worry. Here are some of the links which will keep you on track with my not-pay-attention-in-class-masterpiece. Link 1, Link 2 and Link 3. Should I feel proud?

aug18

Her name is curryegg.

Recently, curryegg has a new friend and his name is Da, Pan Da. Well, we all call him Panda because it sounds cuter. Don’t you think so?

aug19

For all this while, I thought curryegg is cute. Somehow, panda is cuter with soft fur, large eye bags, merry-go-round tummy and big head. Also, he eats bamboo and sleep a lot too (as much as pig). Ahhhhwwwww….

aug22

Panda is just 3 years old (wait.. 2, 4 or 5?). He is very naughty but clever as well. He makes lot of friends because of his happy-go-lucky personality. Besides, he is good in computer, just like curryegg.

panda1

That’s how they make friends in the first place where they share things in common like playing online games, facebook and msn. Besides, they enjoy spending time together. That’s how their friendship grow over time.

aug26

Panda is good in dancing on the floor.

panda3

But sometimes shit too much… Surprised smile

aug27

He is adorable when wearing red bow.. ahhhwww… Red heart

So, this is Panda. He is a new best friend of curryegg. Welcome on board, cute panda! Do try bathing on curry soup someday with eggie. Lol.. XD

panda4

So, how do you find my doodles?
If you have been following curryegg’s page in Facebook, you will start to realize some of these drawings.

panda2

Panda is eggie’s new best friend =)

The above works are my collection of Panda and CurryEgg. Not sure if there will be more in future. Well, let see how far I am able to focus on my hands on task. Psstt.. Mostly, I doodle when I am bored =P

August Randomness

Ever since I came  back from Australia, it seems like I have no drive to play my camera -pinkeggie. Probably my hormone lately doesn’t trigger my ‘appetite’ to snap photos except, nonchalantly capturing moments using my camera phone - N-eggie.

Well, this entire month I didn’t make much of travel to new places. Most of the time, I choose to stay  at home nurturing my introverted side by reading comic, watching movie, playing games and eating. It feels like heaven for being able to hibernate for a while before working. I enjoy my quiet moments and can feel the simplest joy of both being alone and treasuring my connection with closed ones.

Anyway, I am still able to make quick shot almost every little moment I find interesting with my N-eggie. Like they say, a picture worth a thousand of words.

Here is my August’s collection which I have and haven’t shared in my curryegg’s page. I find the randomness kinda of interesting as each tells a unique story.

#1. A monthly visit to bookstore.
I found these interesting page and book cover.

aug1

I heart you.

aug2

500 types of curries can be found in this book. Should I learn this and open my own curry stall? Emm….

#2. Woke up at 7.30am and ran 3 rounds at the park.

aug3

My tired face after the jog. But someone said I doesn’t look like one. Look more like just woke up from sleep? =.=

Again, it tastes better when you eat using left hand. Trust me. Give it a try ;)

#4. Heart capturer.

aug24

It was my first time watching movie with both my brother and sister, together with my cousin. Also, it’s hilarious too! Do watch if you haven’t! =D

aug21

Well yes, I am doing it again. It seems hard for me to concentrate in reading serious stuff, especially in those that I have no interest with but still have to do. So... I draw. This is my new found love and his name is Da, Pan Da. It resembles someone who has big, round and charming tummy =)

So here are my collection so far. I will come back again with my other discoveries. Do drop me comments too! It has been a long time I have not hear anything from my readers. See ya!
