How Love Changes A Person - Me

Calv and I had just ended our conversation through Facebook call before I decided to make a quick blog post over something that comes very spontaneous to me.

IMG_2564

Photo taken at one of our favorite islands in Thailand.

Well, it is not that spontaneous after all when I have been thinking about this person for such a great, long time. The image, the voice, the warmth, the fun, the happiness and the joy that this person brings me since day one is unbelievably addictive.

Although we are in a distance relationship (and now marriage), my emotions and thoughts seemed to evolve around him. You might be surprised of why I become so sentimental in this post. I shall not question and I shall not hide my feelings for what I have been greatly affected by all his loves, cares, supports and efforts all these while.

IMG_1640

I feel safe and secure for I know that I will be guided and supported.

I notice that I have learned and grown so much ever since I know this person. This thought begins from a conversation that I had with my manager in this very afternoon. I have discovered that I am more organized and practical to my work. Besides that, I can be straight and directive in my conversation with good intention behind. Despite of the few values that I discovered, I also realized that I am more confident and being more acceptance of who I am before and now.

IMG_1442The gift.

Reasons for my growth and development are believed to be built through my inner strengths openness to learn from experiences, high achieving working environment, people around me and of course, from the loves that I have been blessed… *thank you*

IMG_1445

The unexpected joyous moment.

Life is full of unpredictable challenges and I do have my down moments. My bed is not always full with beautiful and scented flowers. However, I am braver in facing upcoming challenges. I am happier in awaiting for tomorrows. I am hopeful to achieve shared and personal dreams.

Eh eh…. why I can see clouds and hear birds chirping around me? *dream*

Today, I even made a silly promise to my manager to keep me accountable with one action item. I do not plan to share it here yet, but this promise is made out of 2 reasons:

1) To achieve the dream that I have always wanted to accomplish
2) For love.

I even asked her to give me consequence (which I suggested).
If I don’t do X, I will buy magnum ice-cream for all the ‘failure’ I make throughout the year. Seem challenging uh? Oh well…. ‘Golden mouth has just spoken out’.. The promise must go on~

IMG_1449

Thank God for all the guidance and loves that you have shown me. Please, continue to guide and bless me with the ability to love, patience, wisdom and joy so that I can share with my loved one, my husband.

Good night <3

P/s: To you who are still waiting for your right one, I pray and hope that you will find him/her soon and receive the loves and joys that you wish for <3

When June Leaves May

I mean,

when June (my friend’s name) leaves the organization on May – which is last Friday, it creates a space for me to think and reflect on everything that is happening in and around me. One of the reasons is because, I miss the bubbly and positive energy spread by her since the last 2 months. Although I rarely be in the office, I love and appreciate her aura.

And… today, we met for the very first time after the end of her internship with TFM. We were helping out at PWTC at the Teach For Malaysia booth for Teacher’s Day event. We hang out for dinner after the event and had a meaningful sharing on what we had learnt and accomplished in this first half of the year.

The 2 hours of conversation was deep and filled with gratitude for all the things that we had been through and learnt. We even clapped and cheered happily for each other’s little successes. Like what Calv commented in one of my latest FB photo, “Best friends u had ... Appreciate them well .....”. Indeed, she is one of the very pure souls that I treasure in my life.

Another best part that I love the most was when we brought out Psychology Theory and Counselling techniques onto the table and drew the connections with our current experiences. To our amazement, the philosophy and practice of the skills just come naturally to us despite of the non-counseling job that we are (were) currently doing.

From the conversation, I notice that I really love my job and happy working with my current role as a LDO (Leadership Development Officer) in Teach For Malaysia for 11 wonderful souls in 4 different schools. Besides, I also like the fact that I can work almost as closely as with my teammates’ students whenever I visit the school. This is the perfect platform for me to learn and grow using the knowledge, experiences and skills that I have to shape me to be a better individual.

This is just a simple post that I would want to record my thoughts and feelings after my personal reflection.

Taken in LRT before the ‘goodbye’. Her smile is contagious!

If you are reading this (and I believe you will *insert self-confident), thank you dear Juney for all the love, thoughts and kind help.

I do not have siblings but I am thankful to have closed, meaningful friendships around me.

Before ending this post, there are 2 thoughts in my mind:

When you are facing challenges, what will you normally do?
Was the action that you do help you to grow or hinder you from progressing?

Inner Voice Speaks

As the age grow older, I find myself not fancy attention from the public as much as I used to be. Well, I have to admit that I still like attention but only from people who are closed to me. I guess, this is called aging….

Aging…….

It is an enlightening Tuesday, and I have the urge to blog today – just to let my mind to be at ease with the environment which I am currently sitting with good companies next to me.

I visited the temple this morning for prayer. My heart was dancing in joy as I woke up this morning and I was delighted for the whole day. Today is Wesak Day and I gained peace and enlightenment during in the temple. It has been quite some times since I stepped into the temple with a feather-light heart.

No images of work. No pressure. Just an empty soul.

wesak2

Childhood memories were unexpectedly recalled when I was pouring the flower water onto the little Buddha body. The excitement upon receiving the yellow blessing string came naturally to me because when I was a little girl, I used to think that God will give me special protection from the evil and save me from any danger. I even had the thought that if I pray sincerely to God without any intention for return, I am a good girl and people around me will love me more. I guess, I haven’t reached 12 that time?

P/s: I still have such feeling and knowing that God’s power is beyond measure and I am always been guided and protected.

I was holding my palms together and closed my eyes in a meditative manner. I secretly send telepathy to my own brain, “Eggie, you have grown up! Look at you. You are 158cm tall now (not 80cm) with a husband, a family and a career. You are a woman!”.

It felt so good to remain silent for at least 45 minutes and being prayerful. I am certainly amazed by how far I have travelled till today. I know that I wouldn’t be able to be who I am today, and be where I am today without the blessing, guidance and loves from God and people around me. I know that I wouldn’t be able to grow as fast as I could without disappointment, struggles and challenges from people and environments.

Issue is indeed a constant lesson.
Experiences are indeed the best teacher.
People are indeed the best reflection of self.
Life is indeed unexplainable miracle.

While the chanting continued by the monks, images of important people flashed in my mind. Secretly, I reflected over the good deeds done by each of them and ended each image with gratitude and best wishes for them. I didn’t know how and why I did that but it just happened naturally – like I am at the end of my life and I am leaving my last words.

I love how it feels at the end of the prayer. It reminds me of how I used to feel when I was still a child being very curious and innocent with everything and everyone around me. It feels almost like a reborn of spirit and hopes for the future. Or, like a reformatted computer?

wesak1

I spent a good afternoon with new companies today at a very interesting cafe (which I am sitting currently) and they are Sue, Lexie and Jane. The coffee aroma and warm ambiance inspired me to open up my laptop and blog again. I love this feeling and I am thankful for the simplicity of happiness gained today.

Ohh… before ending this post, one #selfie from the 4 of us or it seems incomplete for the year 2014 trends.

A Happy 25th Birthday.

Well, I think my blogpost title should be written as ‘An Awesome 25th Birthday’ instead of using only the ‘happy’ word because, I did have an awesome one! ;)

A couple of weeks ago, I have ‘upgraded’ my age with new number. Till now, I still couldn’t believe that how fast time has past and I am back into square one again, embarking another historical journey of my life. Isn’t it miraculous? It creates a feeling of reborn that inspire me to start all over again to make my new age more meaningful and purposeful.

And, it is a great start by receiving this unexpected gift from Calv, a day before the actual date.

birthday1 OMG!!!

I couldn’t believe my eyes when I see this!!?
Calvin Seet drew another masterpiece and this time on my present paper??

birthday2

Isn’t it unique and lovely?!!

I admire and fall in love with his creativity and sincerity though it is a combination of 8 pieces of A4 (new and recycled) papers with cellophane tape sticking them together.

birthday3

Initially, he was worried that I would be unhappy because he didn’t wrap the present traditionally with proper present paper. Well, seriously  I love this more than commercialized present paper because artwork means sincerity, sincerity means love, isn’t it?

What had raced my heart even more is THIS:
*pointing at the following photo of mine*

birthday4

OH MY GOD!!!

It’s a Bamboo!!! OMG!!!

I couldn’t believe it even till now that I have a BAMBOO!!! It’s a drawing tablet for art-lover. Google if you want to find out more about it as I could sense that some of you are feeling weird that it doesn’t turn out a bamboo tree but, a flat black device. Lol…

I love Calv’s thoughtful present so much. He knew I love drawing, sketching and doodling. Throughout the year, he has observed my interest and passion in sharing my art with family members, friends and blog readers online. Besides, he always heard that I made art stuff as teaching material for my students. With the hope to expand my creativity and bring my passion into a higher level, he did some researches before buying this tablet.

Here are some of my latest masterpieces in my purple journal (I named it my purple journal because the skin is purple!).

teachfm
A doodle that I did inspired by the Teach For Malaysia’s Mission at the back of my name card.

friendshipforeverdoodle

Discovered my niece’s photo album with fairy theme. It has reminded me of my childhood, thus I sketched it in the book.

I always feel loved and lucky to have such a considerate, loving and caring partner. The moment when he told me that he had actually prepared my birthday present a week earlier before his flight has melted my heart. He was worried if flight delay happened, he might be late to give it to me.. *touched*

birthday6

Well, I couldn’t ask more from him as he has always given his best, all the time to make me happy, including this precious dinner at Umaiyah on my actual date.

birthday5

Japanese food is rarely his favorite because he dislikes raw food (like salmon sashimi. how can!? so nice right?) and seaweed. Despite of his personal disinterest, he still took the effort to smile and forcefully said,

“Let’s go for Japanese food. I loooooovee Japanese food”.

Lol…
Well, little things like this matter most to me. Probably to most of the girls too.

birthday7

With my favorite bouquet of roses in my hand while wearing my new hot red dress, my birthday ended awesomely. Of course, the night wouldn’t be perfect without my charming partner ;)

birthday8

Thank you dear for creating me such a memorable and sweet birthday. I know, it will be a good start of the year for me. May God always blessed you with good health, wealth, loves and wisdom. I love you!

In the meantime, please look forward to my new creation using Bamboo ;)

First Comic Strip On Algebra

I was feeling heart-broken today when some students, again misbehaved in my class no matter how many private conversations I have had with them. It took a heavy heart to write out their names in the discipline book after a good number of warnings given. If you still remember my 3 creative-but-not-so-smart students’ jokes on #rekomemories 2, they are the exact same students who broke the rules again.

Through the months, I have been working extremely hard especially when teaching is something new to me. I need to learn from the basic till something I call advance so that I could pick up and teach my students with proper lesson. However, things don’t always happen to the way you expect or want instantly. I know it can happen, but it will take times.. *hopeful*

*****

Ok.. enough for the emotional writing. I should come back to my main objective of this blog post (this is part of my uniqueness – always stray away from main objective/purpose. aiya..).

So, here is my latest investment for my students on Form 1 Algebra. I have used this in my pilot-test-class (the strong Maths basic class) yesterday and I received positive respond from them.

comic2edited

This comic was done in a rush, about 20-25 minutes. Could be better if I have more time.

Surprisingly, it only took them 1-2 minutes to read and understand the story and immediately, they know x equal to 16 candies and 16 candies are represented by x. They even could wrote interesting letter to Ahmad in the end of the class as a 3 minutes assignment. I had a good laugh at their funny jokes. Maybe I should share them here but those exercise books I left in the staff room. Well, never mind.. ;)

Students from the class already asked for Part 2. The funny thing is, before I could even reply, another invested student said, “Wait teacher draw part 2 lah.. Please be patient (in Bahasa Melayu)”.

Lol.. that cheer my day ;)

Lesson learnt: Whenever there is something pulls you down, remember that there is always something that will pull you up too. Just find that strengthe and you will be happy again.

P/s: Maybe I should turn up and me a cartoonist?

P/s/s: I know I will not give up easily because this is what I want and my passion is here. I guess, I just need perseverance, determination and consistency – just like a marathone runner.

Long Awaited Holiday

Hi guys,

How are you lately? It has been almost 2 months since curryegg.com been updated. Guess, some of you have been waiting so long that your neck has lengthen just like the giraffe? Haha.. well, I am translating the popular Chinese phrase into English. Sound weird tho.

I don’t know how many of you are still reading curryegg.com when the author herself (me) barely find the time to sleep, let alone blogging. I hope you are still with me. If you are still here, please leave a comment or click like on the facebook to show your existence (hope it is not a big request from me ^_^)

Well, this time, I purposely take a long break for myself from the blogosphere due to the consistency of exhaustion. As you know, I am currently a full time teacher-cum-student. The responsibility is skyrocketed ever since I enrolled myself as a Teach For Malaysia fellow. I have never expected the stress and exhaustion will be that high, tougher than working in the hospital I would say.

My words might sound negative but don’t get me wrong. I love my job and I enjoy what I am doing currently. What I need now is a long full rest to replenish my energy. I need to rebuild my stamina after a straight 7 months of hard work. Yeah, since October 2011 till yesterday. I still have 2 assignments need to be finished up before 30th May. Well, I will try my best to complete it by tomorrow. Puff..

Anyway, I have started reading English novels from my collection!!! Weeeeeeeeeeeeeee… Finally! I love reading!

Honestly, I have been using Bahasa Melayu in all my teaching and common conversation with colleagues and students and I know my English mastery has deteriorated. It’s bad and I know I should  pick up. I was born in a Chinese family background with minimum English usage since I was small, unlike other banana friends. So, to be excellent in English, it requires excellent hard work from me. Well, God knows best.

I am going to end this post with two latest pictures of mine during Teacher’s Day. It is a huge event for me because it is my first time celebrating Teacher’s Day as a teacher. Hah! Call me a teacher =D

teacher1

This photo was taken during Teach For Malaysia week during April. I can use this photo safely here because we have received their parents’ approval. Weeeeeeeee! First time with non-mosaic faces =D

teacher'sday

Some of the presents I received from my lovely students. They are a few who gave after the event. I am touched no matter how small or big the gift is *sob*

teacher1 Me and Ranjeetha (TFM fellow).

I will not promise any future update after today because I don’t wanna put any stress on myself or make empty promises. Ever since become a teacher, I have this principle of,  Do What You Can, Do What You’ve Promised.

As for now, I officially declare that curryegg has 2 weeks of maximum holiday with family, friends and herself! Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee….

Happy holiday to all the students and teachers in Malaysia =D =D =D

P/s: Currently, my plan is to have no plan at all. Yay!

I ♥ My Weekend

It is sad to acknowledge that the weekend is over.

I couldn’t cuddle my booster any later than 10am. I couldn’t hold the hand of my love one like the way I love to. I couldn’t day-dreaming like the way I wanted to during in the weekday. I couldn’t visit and revisit the mall as easy as I can, ya right.

Well, I love how I spend my weekend although it is a simple one.
The day before Saturday, I hang out with my long-time-no-meet friend for Old Town White Coffee and chatted till midnight. We talked almost about anything from family, work, relationship, friends and future. I love and miss such catch-up time with my old friend, Lakshumy. It is great to update about each other before Saturday take over.

And how I spent my Saturday?

Oh well… it was wonderful. I visited UM (my old campus) and attended my favorite lecturer’s class – Dr. Diana. I blogged about her so often back in my university time. From the amount of posts that I had about her, you should know how much she meant to me in my life. Her passion in teaching and educating has changed my life. I become the person whom I always want to be and I appreciate who I am today. I am thankful for having her in my life, I really am.

drd1

She bought her own ‘throne’ from her favorite furniture shop. Super chio~

For such reason, I always look for opportunity to meet her and attend any of her class during in the weekend. I had tried to match my schedule with hers since last year and I could only make it for this Saturday – and YES! I DID IT! I am honored to attend her master class for Marriage and Family Counseling. I love her creative way in teaching and the way she cares for every students whom she has. Well, she could remember every single name in the class and it should be a challenge for her to remember such a diverse range of names in Malaysia context. But well, she managed! She is a legend! That’s why she is our queen =)

dr2

She loves pink sparkling sandals.

Drd3

My note-taking during in her class. She saw it and impressed with my work. Ended up showing the whole class *happy and shy*

After class, I managed to purchase a printer for myself using my own money for the very first time *proud* I have always wanted a new economical printer ever since I become a teacher because my old one doesn’t work anymore and it troubled me to visit the printing shop in the morning before school. Now, I hope my life is easier with this gadget… *hopeful*

The evening was well spent with Calvin doing simple things together. One of the moments that I enjoyed the most was trying Ninja Joe for the very first time together with him.

bruce1

The food was great and the environment was pleasant. I have always longing for a quiet evening together where both of us can relax ourselves while enjoying each other company. Not to forget good pork burger. It reminds me of my experiences of eating pork burger at McDonald and KFC in China. Lol.. Well, they were good.

phtoftheday7   He is soooooooo cute when he is eating ^_^

The rest of my Sunday?
I could only filled it with my remaining work on abandoned assignments, lesson plans, book marking and call-homes. It was not a packed day but just enough to finish part of the works.

I love my weekend and I am reluctant to welcome Monday at the moment.
*continue cuddle my booster*

P/s: I will start teaching 2 new Math classes. Things will have to start from the beginning. I will try my best for these new kids. Wish me luck~

Jealousy Towards Other Active Bloggers

I know it is not normal to have such feeling. Well, I can’t help but feeling rather helpless and jealous towards bloggers who are actively blogging, and I can’t =(

I don’t know is it because of my job that keep me from blogging or because I am just not in the mood?

Ever since I joined Teach For Malaysia, time allocated for blogging is getting lesser and lesser each day. I could see that my main priority now is not updating myself with Facebook news, reading twitter religiously or blogging. In fact, they have been replaced with books marking, researching Maths’s teaching ideas, attempting Form 1 Maths questions, keying student’s progress and meditating in the car. Meditating in the car!? Ya, i mean self-reflecting while driving (not sleeping k?). Lol..

My life now is always filled with the stories of students, students and students. Though it has been the new 4th months now, I still find myself not bored thinking and talking about them (and people around me are getting bored of the stories T__T). No matter how awful they had broken me down with their mischievous behaviors and uncaring attitudes, I am still passionate to understand their phenomenology and teach the ways they learn best.

Each day, especially while I was driving, I will reflect on what I have and have not done in my lesson. How did my students responded? What are the successes and failures? How could I improve myself to be a better ‘CEO’ in the class? How could I make my students love and enjoy the subject? How can I unleash individual’s potential in such a limited time and such environment?  Etc.. etc.. etc..

teaching2 My participative kids.

teaching4Meaningful lesson about the value of collaboration with students at my Civic class.

I used to be a very occupied person back in the past 2.5 months where I hardly relax, always in tensed condition and wear my teacher’s cap all the time, even after work. I realize it is not healthy and it actually drained me off. As a result, I couldn’t even enjoy my job and weekends, which is really bad.

Probably, this is the reason why I am not blogging lately because whenever I want to blog, my ‘Police Traffic Mode’ will be turned on and it will stop me abruptly from doing non-related-to-teaching-and-coursework' activities. So bad ya? Well, I am not doing my work pun. Bad uh?

photoftheday6

When I couldn’t do what I love and seeing other bloggers updating their blogs almost daily make me jealous *pouted*. I want to blog like I used to. Post all those nice nice photos of places, food, people and myself. Write super long stories. Receive comments and etc. Well, I guess telling personal stories about myself in the class and writing small comments in students’ books (and read by other teachers and their own parents) are my new found hobby. They served the purposes (self satisfaction) too, right?

me I put a latest (tired looking) photo of me so that you wouldn’t forget me.. =P

Sob.. please miss me.
T____T

P/s: Oh dear, I’ve spent my 1 and a half hour blogging. I need to sleep now. Kthxbai.

P/s/s: I just realized that most of the photos I  posted here are from my civic classes. I have more ‘we’ time in civic classes that can allow me to snap some pictures. In the coming week, I will have no more civic classes due to the changes school timetable. Thinking about this make my heart ache. I will miss them. Would share more about this in the coming post =(

Super Nervous First Maths Formative Exam!

I couldn’t sleep well since the last two days, before 7.3.2012.

I was very nervous because the first school formative exam fall on the 7th of March and my Maths paper was on the day. The feeling was like allowing your child to ride on the bicycle for the very first time. You will worry whether will they fall? And if they fall, what should you do? Should you pull them up? Or let them to stand up on their feet by themselves? What if they hate riding a bike after the fall and never wanting to try again? And what should you do if they are too good in it and requested to ride a motorbike instead?

There were so many ‘what-if’ questions the night before 7.3.2012 and I ended up not knowing what to do, except praying to God for whatever He think is the best for all these children and me.

The very next morning, I was inspired to make posters for my 3 Maths class students (I still have this spontaneous ability which have pros and cons.. =.=). Initially, I didn’t know what to write to my students. Should I write as a message from the teacher (me) or should I write on behalf of them? After taking nearly half an hour sitting in front of my teacher’s table, I saw my hand with a black marker pen in it started writing animatedly. Teachers who passed by my table which was located at the back of the staff room were curiously and came near me.

One of the teacher surprisingly asked, “Tan, are you going to teach later?”

I smiled, looked at her and replied, “No lar. Just writing a few words for the students”.

“Wow… You know, you don’t have to do such things to them. I’m afraid they wouldn’t appreciate your effort”, she replied and left after I returned her with a smile.

She could be right and wrong but that is not my main concern.
So, these are my posters for each class. 1Sp2 is the best class, 1SP3 is the better class and 1SP4 is the good class – in term of Maths performances.

student1

I don’t know how much my students appreciate and understood the message from my motivational posters. I don’t know even if these posters work. What I actually want most is to show my moral support and motivate all of them who have been working hard throughout the 3 months to give their best in the 1 hour with 38 questions paper. To those who didn’t even do and turn in my homework, these posters will remind them to work harder after this because there is a Maths teacher who care for them all the time *fingers crossed*

 student7

student2

Did you spot my infamous dinning room clock? >.<

I pasted 1 poster in each classes on the whiteboard and made them read aloud together with me before the exam begin. I even placed my emm… house’s clock in front of the classroom with the hope that they can keep track on their time because to answer Maths questions, one  really needs good time management.

Hahaha… I STOLE CLOCKS from MY HOUSE, could you believe it? =P

So, the exam begun at the dot of 5.40pm and the corridor were full of bags, books and surrounded with the sound of the winds. I had never seen the school in such a quite state when more than 600+ students were in the buildings.

student9

student8

I adore seeing my students in such a serious mode. I could see they were trying their best and attempted each questions quite well.

theclassroom

While waiting nervously for the time passes, I walked along the corridor and snapped a few photos:

student4 The school has the best sunset scenery

student5 student6

In the end of the exam, I have students who came and told me how easy-peasy the paper was. Next, I have students who told me they knew the answers and I even have students who frankly told me, “Susah lah cikgu! I sure failed one. Matilah ku”.

student3

The student in brown and yellow shirt (on the most right) was smiling because he told me that he could answer the paper.. I hope he is right =)

That is how my first experience as teacher, seeing my students fought in the battlefield. Also, it is my first time being scolded by my mum for stealing all the clocks from home. Lolx…

P/s: Ranjeetha (one of the 50 Teach For Malaysia Fellows) found the idea of  pasting a poster to each class is a good idea to motivate students and she might do it tomorrow. Let’s pray for a good effect for these children =)

P/s/s: Now, it is time to mark theirs papers.. aja aja fighting!

Back To School – From CNY Break

“Bangun….. Selamat petang cikgu”, the class monitor leaded the greeting once I stepped in to the class and the rest of the class chorused together.

“It is good to see them again with cheerful faces”, I secretly thought to myself.

“Selamat petang semua. Bagus, saya dapat mendengar semangat baru yang anda tunjukkan sebentar tadi. Sila duduk”.

Some of the boys were spotted smiling cheekily.

“Bagaimana cuti satu minggu anda. Ada pergi melancong bersama keluarga ke?”, I asked the class curiously while doing ice-breaking with them.

Some replied,

“Tak baik cikgu..”
”Gembira cikgu….”
”Ok-ok je la…..”

When I asked, “Kenapa tak baik dan ok-ok je?”
and they answered…

”Kerana cuti pendek sangat”.
”Ya la cikgu… tak best ahhh..”
“Cikgu.. gong xi gong xi fatt chai ya...”
”Cikgu! Ang pau.. mana ang pau?”

Lol.. these kids… XD

backtoschool

Photo was taken after school assembly.

Frankly, I feel the same too because I barely have a good Chinese New Year break with family members. Those 4 full days of traveling coming back and forth minus my 8 days total of holiday which then left me 4 days of break. I was even exhausted than before as there are still preparation which need to be done during CNY.

Anyway, I am happy to see my students again. They are still lovely though some of them didn’t finish my homework *puff*. One of classes ended up had to bear with my 5 minute lecture where I reminded them about our class’s big goal, the culture of the class, their dreams and their progress. I didn’t mean to lecture my students, but… well… I couldn’t take in when their reason is… “Saya terlupa cikgu. Saya tak check.. Saya tak tahu”. I find it important to make them understand why I am concerned about their work.

P/s: Probably I didn’t give make myself clear in class and I took half of the blame to myself.

Lot of stuff need to be done. I gotta sleep by now as there will be sport practice and co-curriculum activity in the morning (at 8am!) and then, continue with my afternoon session till 7pm.. @_@

All iz well~
All izz weell~~
All izzz weeell~~

Is Stress Part Of Teaching?

Recently, I am pretty disturbed with my own mind.
The same list of self-talks conversed among my neuron cells happened ever since the second week of school.

Questions like:

“How could I make my lesson interesting?”
“How to make my students listen, participate and engage in my class?”
“How would I be able to push them in reaching the class goal?”
”How could I teach my students to practice good moral values in class?”
“What kind of long-term, monthly, weekly and daily plan that can help my students to succeed and achieve good result?”
“Would I be able to finish all the syllabus before each formative and final test at school when there are so many activities and school holiday take place?"
“Could I be able to walk the talk?”

Each time when I think of these, I found myself having headache, difficulty in breathing and heavy heart (just like a large stone pressing my heart). When I come to analyze such symptoms, I know instantly the name of this situation. It is called S.T.R.E.S.S.

Well, it is pretty much a personal stress which I am creating to myself and it is bad, real bad. It disturbs my daily functionality and emotion which causes physical and mental exhaustion. I tried as hard as possible not to affect my relationship with my closed ones. It is worse when seeing myself treating people around me badly when there is nothing wrong with them.

This Chinese New Year 1 week break should be a relaxing break for my body, mind and soul. However, it turned out to be the opposite. Ironically, my stress level rose up even higher now when I realized I have not done anything yet for my school tomorrow and the week. The journey spent on traveling and running family errands and attending family occasion took up most of my time.

sunset A photo taken last year during sunset near my house. The effect is pretty good, don’t you think so?

I didn’t know what to do now and I have already shut down myself to not do anything. I need something therapeutic and relaxing at least for this moment. I realize I can’t work and inspire others when I am tired and exhausted. This is what has been emphasized in Teaching As Leadership Comprehensive Rubric – to work relentlessly. It is important to know how to take care of the self (as a teacher) to maximize teaching results in classes. I will put W-1, W-2 and W-3 closely in mind.

As for now, I will just shut down myself and sleep. Cheers for a better tomorrow. Good night.

P/s: Someone please tell me that feeling stress in the teaching profession is normal.

Say Hello To Cikgu Telur

The time has arrived.
Ms Telur is going to teach in another few hours.

OMG!
I am so nervous yet excited… >.<!

I have done shopping for my new writing tools. Stuff like 6 different color of refillable marker pens, timer, manila card, stick-it-notes, stamps and etc.

Besides, I have planned my lesson planning for 3 different classes which I will attend later. However, there are still doubts of executing the plan because as I have been informed, there will be an orientation session for the new Form 1 students. Indirectly, it means no class will be conducted until it ends.

Well, for the safe side, I just prepare whatever I can, just in case the students come in and I have something to do with them.

Oh dear!
I should be sleeping by now but my heart is pumping really fast. My nervousness can be sensed by looking at how unorganized this post is blogged. Well, I can’t care much at this moment. I just want a corner to do self-therapy so that it allows me to sleep better after this.

Btw, I am a Form 1 teacher for 3 Mathematic classes and 5 Civic classes.
Let see what I will do for my 8 wonderful classes in the first week.

Before ending this post, I would like to share a few photos which were taken secretly by my instructor, Reid back in SMK Ampang Pecah. Thank you Reid for all these memorable photos. I can feel and listen to our passions in fighting for inequity in education - I Want, I Can, I Will.

Where Is Curryegg Lately?

I have always wanted to make a ‘grand opening’ for this new chapter of my life by finding the BEST inspiration, BEST time and BEST words to share this piece of amazing news. I took almost a month and it seems that BEST thing of never will happen when action is not taken. So, I screwed my perfectionism (again) and bringing out my adventurer side instead.

So, this is my news my dear readers. I know you have been waiting for my blog update for a very long time. I truly understand. But then, I don’t know how to deliver my excitement in words now. Probably, a long drum roll makes the trick?

*drum roll*

Ladies and gentlemen, Ms curryegg would like to announce that she is one of the 50 fellows for Teach For Malaysia and she is currently participating in the 2 months training at the Institut Aminuddin Baki, Genting Highlands. She has just completed her first week of training and feel really excited for the second one!

Yes. You read me correctly. I am joining Teach For Malaysia and I will be a secondary school teacher soon. I know what is playing in your mind now. You must be questioning, “What is Teach For Malaysia?”, “Why a teacher?”, “What does a fellow in Teach For Malaysia do?”, “Why not be a counselor?”

I will write more in the coming post on what is Teach For Malaysia and why I Teach For Malaysia as I need to sleep by now. There is an important meeting in the morning and I have to get a good rest.

You might be interested to find out more what is Teach For Malaysia before I share more on the reasons why I join this 2 years program.
