Happy Halloween

Boys... and Valentine's....

Remember when you were a kid and you had to make a Valentine's "Sack" to bring to school, so you could give Valentine's Day cards to all your friends? You glued a couple of heart doylies on it and you were done.  Well, now a days... kids have to make a Valentine's "Box".  The kids are supposed to make it, but have you ever tried wrapping a shoe box? Not so easy for a youngster. 

So, I take Logan to Hobby Lobby yesterday.  I take him down the scrapbooking paper aisle... thinking surely there will be some kind of paper he will like to decorate his box with. Sure enough... he zoned right into the "camo" paper. No pink and red hearts for this box!! ha ha!! Next, he decided he wanted to put army men on top of the box. Not my idea of a Valentine's box, but sometimes you just gotta go with the flow! He found this bag full of army men and equipment. Yes, I put the paper "on" the box, then he put all of the army gear on top.  3-D glue dots (or zots) are a must for this project... they hold ANYTHING on!

And there you have it... "A BOY'S" idea for a Valetine's Box!

It's a ......

BOY!!! 

We went in for our ultrasound yesterday. I took the kids out of school so they could be a part of this special day too! They were very excited about finding out if the baby was a boy or a girl : )  It was so precious to see the baby on the ultrasound screen. It is DEFINITELY a boy! He was just wiggling around the whole time! The kids enjoyed it, although I think Macey was a tad bit sad that it wasn't a girl. Of course it didn't help that Logan and Robert were saying.... "yeah, we are going to rule the house!"

On the way back in from Tulsa, the freezing rain had just started. We are moseying right along Garnett about 20 mph. Then all of a sudden, WHAM! A lady pulling out of Hobby Lobby couldn't stop and ran right into us. We spun around and were facing on coming traffic! SCARY! Everyone was going so slow that no one else hit us! Could have been so much worse! Best thing about it there was a police officer right there who saw the whole thing. The lady was very sweet and apologetic and was worried about the kids in the car. I reassured her we were all fine... we exchanged insurances... and went about our merry way!

That was enough excitement for one day!!

Portrait of "Duke"

I thought this was too cute not to post! Macey was home sick this week with strep throat... she did lots of cartoon watching & lots of crafts : )  Here is a portrait of Duke that she drew. I didn't know she was doing it until she was finished & she brought it to me. My favorite parts are his big droopy jowls & his two bottom teeth sticking out (kind of hard to see on the scanned pic). I took this picture of Duke afterwards so you could see the resemblance. Pretty good for a six year old!

I get a knock on the door Monday afternoon. It was one of my neighbors stopping by to let me know he slid into my mailbox.... I looked outside and said... yep... you sure did! ha ha! He felt really bad about it. I told him better the mailbox than a child or a car : )

I had just put my pretty *fresh* greenery complete with ribbon on it (fundraiser from Rejoice) a couple of days before. Oh well... it was pretty for a few days anyway!

Poor Baby....

Okay... so we take Duke in to get neutered on THURSDAY morning. While he was sedated, they took some xrays of his right knee (he has been limping for quite a while) and noticed his knee cap or patella had rolled over to the side of his leg. So we took him in to an orthopedic vet and they did knee surgery on him on FRIDAY. POOR BABY!!! Two surgeries in 2 days! Man... he is never going to want to go for a car ride again! And he is supposed to stay off of his leg for FOUR WEEKS! How do you tell a puppy that he can't run and play!

Macey decided Duke needed some peace and quiet so she covered his crate with a sheet and made this cute little sign... 

The night he came home, she felt the need to make a fort and sleep on the floor right beside him... just in case he needed her in the middle of the night.

 1. Egg Nog or Hot Chocolate? Definitely Hot Chocolate! Egg Nog is N-A-S-T-Y!

 2. Does Santa wrap presents or just sit them under the tree?  Santa wraps MOST of the presents...the big ones just get a pretty bow stuck on them.

 3. Colored lights on tree/house or white? All white on the tree and outside on house too. Yes..the kids think that is TOTALLY boring!

 4. Do you hang mistletoe? Nope... I know what that can lead too!

 5. When do you put your decorations up? The weekend after Thanksgiving. I like to have them up as long as possible.

 6. What is your favorite holiday dish (excluding dessert)? Mashed potatoes and gravy and my  grandmother's candied yams!

 7.  Favorite holiday memory as a child? Having a flashlight under my pillow and getting up in the middle of the night to go through my stocking and check out the presents santa had left.

 8. When and how did you learn the truth about Santa? It was horrible... a neighbor friend told me when I was in 1st grade. I accused her of lying and ran home to ask my mother if it was  true. She tried to "gently" tell me, yes it was true. I bawled and bawled!

 9. Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve? Yes, just one.

10. How do you decorate your Christmas tree? Mainly red, gold, and green and LOTS of adorable hand made ornaments from my kiddos. (See the pic above)

11. Snow, Love it or dread it? Like snow... Hate Ice. Although the kids had the best time on the ice... lots of sledding and ice hockey in the streets. They didn't mind that we couldn't go anywhere.

12. Can you ice skate? Been a LONG time since I tried... can't say I was too great at it : )

13. Do you remember your favorite gift? As a child, my favorite gift was a doll house that my grandparents made for me. As an adult, probably a digital camera that Robert got me about 6 years ago. Although it has since been replaced... it was a huge move for me being that I am not good with technology change. I was just fine with my 35 mm camera... or so I thought.  Can't imagine life with out a digital camera now!

14. What is the most important thing about the holidays for you? Remembering to slow down and stop and remember what Christmas is really all about. It is so easy to get caught up in the rush rush of shopping, baking, wrapping.... I love going to Vespers on Christmas Eve... it is so touching and puts everything back in perspective. Jesus is the reason for the season!

15. What is your favorite holiday dessert? Lots of them... maybe fudge and pumpkin pie with  cool whip rank at the top.

16. What is your favorite holiday tradition? Decorating the tree with Christmas music playing in the back ground and drinking Hot Cocoa (although this year... there was no Christmas music in the background... it was football instead). OU vs. OSU... didn't think there was any use trying to fight that one!

17. What tops your tree? A Star

18. Which do you prefer - giving or receiving? Definitely giving!

19. What is your favorite Christmas song? O Holy Night, Christmas Canon

20. Candy Canes. Yum or Yuck? Don't really care for them much

21. What do you want for Christmas? For a healthy baby to be born in June!

22. Do you attend an annual Christmas party? We have an annual Gingerbread House Decorating party that we go too. This year... I volunteered to make ALL the gingerbread houses... WOW!!! That is a whole other story!

23. Do you dress up for Christmas Eve or wear PJ's? Dress in church clothes for Vespers and them home to warm cozy PJ's!

24. Do you own a Santa hat? The kids do. I need to find one for Duke and Rosco.

25. Who do you normally spend Christmas with? We normally spend Christmas morning with my side of the family and that evening or the next day with Robert's family. Just what ever works out best with everyone's schedules!
