Here is the link to the site for the cans. http://www.houseofcans.com/
Plain interior cans are 45 cans for $95.85 + $2.13 lids are included with each order but you have to REQUEST them or they don't send them. I would prefer the coated interior they are only 2 cents more a can! I would be willing to go in if others want to place an order..

VITAL RECORDS BINDER:
Thank you to everyone that came to the Provident Living activity on Thursday. It was a great night and many hands were working hard to make Vital Records Binders. Below is a highlight of what needs to be done to complete the information sheets and sections 1 and 2 in your binder.
- Complete the worksheets in section 1
- Obtain business cards for all medical related professionals of all family members
- Add contact numbers for family doctors and specialists Section 2 (business cards go in the business card holders)
- Obtain a copy of each family members Dental Records
- Add a second set of insurance cards (put them in an envelope and tape it to the Health Insurance pate)
- Add a copy of your health insurance policy
- Add immunization cards or records for each family member
This list is a little larger than normal as we are completing January and February's assignments. For insurance cards call your insurance provider and request a second set be sent to you. All dental records and immunization records are easily obtained from your physicians offices.
You will notice there is a neighborhood block plan. I have already introduced this idea to a few of my neighbors and they loved the idea. Incorporate them into your plan so that they feel prepared in case of a neighborhood emergency.
You have done the tough part, the binder is ready to go, now it is time to fill it in with all the important stuff!!!

Let’s Prepare Together!
2012 New Year's Resolution- Be Prepared!!!
with rather than tomato purchase what your family will eat.
For January we need to purchase the following:
- Week 8: 8 cans tuna/chicken
- Week 9: 6 lbs. yeast
- Week10: 50 lbs. wheat
- Week11: 8 cans tomato soup
A preparedness idea--
Many of us receive money or gift cards at Christmas or are preparing to receive a tax refund. Set aside some of this
I know we all have the usual resolutions of losing weight, spending more time with loved ones, and even a few financial goals but as the global economy continues to change rapidly and natural disasters worsen let's set a goal to increase our preparedness together as a ward.
During the fall of 2011we adopted a plan to build our food storage on less than $5 a week (for 2 people). For those of you who have not started this program you are not too late. Below are the weekly items we have bought so far:
- Week 1: 6 lbs. salt
- Week 2: 5 cans cream of chicken soup
- Week 3: 20 lbs. of sugar
- Week 4: 8 cans tomato soup
- Week 5: 50 lbs. of wheat
- Week 6: 6 lbs. macaroni
- Week 7: 20 lbs. sugar
- Week 8: 8 cans tuna/chicken
Keep in mind, if you are rotating these items please be sure to purchase each item as you use them. For families with several children add additional quantity weekly to make sure you have enough for your family. Some of the weeks are repeated later to ensure that the cost each week is low. For example week 4 is 8 cans of tomato soup and week 11 will be another 8 cans. The food items listed are meant to build a yearly storage and are only recommendations. If your family prefers a different soup to cook money to purchase preparedness items for your home.
Upcoming activity-- Creating a vital records binder for each home.
July 24th-August 13th
For those of you who do not have a working 3 month food/home supply:
· Compile your inventory list of items on hand and compare with the list of meals that you would like to have in your 3 month supply
· Determine a weekly/monthly budget that can be set aside only for your food storage
· Shopping wholesale stores such as Costco are not the best prices for most products instead shop the deals at the local grocery stores and use coupon
For those of you with a 3 month food/home supply:
· The web has dozens of sites that help you acquire a year supply of food storage by spending $10 a week
· Utilize a Food Calculator to determine what your family needs to store http://foodstoragemadeeasy.net/babysteps/step-4-long-term-food-storage-planning/
· Focus on recipes that use shelf stable food from your storage- review the site http://foodstoragemadeeasy.net for a wide range of recipes to include in your storage
Get Prepared and Store WATER!!
Store a 2 week’s supply of water (1 gallon per person per day). Buy 55 gallon barrels, get several 5-6 gallon jugs, or fill up empty soda/juice bottles. Make sure it is food grade plastic, but not milk jugs as they deteriorate too quickly!
Key Points
- Most sources recommend 1 gallon of water per person, PER day, for 3-14 days. Make sure to consider storing enough for pets as well.
- Store water in “FOOD GRADE” or PETE plastic containers (stay away from milk jugs, but soda bottles are suitable).
- Water storage boxes are another good option. Water is placed into mylar bags and then inserted into stackable cardboard boxes.
- Store water away from too much light or heat.
- Clean, sanitize, and rinse all containers prior to use.
- Do not use containers previously used to store non-food products.
- Store water in multiple sizes of containers to suit different emergency needs
- Do not store water containers directly on concrete. Place on cardboard, wood pallets, or other materials.
- Non-chlorinated water (most municipal water is chlorinated) should be treated with unscented liquid household chlorine bleach (5 to 6% sodium hypochlorite). See the chart below for appropriate amount to add to water.
- Boiling is the safest way to clean water, however you can also use household liquid bleach to kill microorganisms.
- Rotate your water storage at least once every year

June 26th- July 9th
For those of you who do not have a working 3 month food/home supply:
Start with a list of the foods your family eats on a regular basis. A Calendar is a great way to do that. Just write down what you eat each day. At the end of the month you will have between 28-31 Meal Options to choose from.
Make a list of meals that can be made with foods that do not need to be refrigerated.
List the non-food items that your family uses daily. This can be done easily by placing a notepad in each room and noting the things you are using that day.
*Simplify your 3 month storage and prepare a menu of meals for 1 week regularly eaten in your home- 7 days of breakfast, 7 days of lunch, and 7 days of dinner and multiply by 12 weeks to determine the amount of food needed for your 3 month supply.
For those of you with a 3 month food/home supply:
Store what you eat and eat what you store . . . just remember to replace the items you eat!
Review your 3 month and year supply of food storage items taking an inventory of what you have stored checking expiration dates and quantities to ensure the proper amount is stored for each family member.
Start an itemized listing of your storage accounting for what you have stored and what needs to be added to your storage.
*Dividing your storage into 3 categories Non-food Storage, Food Storage, and Freezer Items will simplify the process.
*When determining how much is needed of non-food items and those items not used often, date the products when you open them to track how long they last. Then add to your storage the appropriate quantity to last a year or two.

SELF-RELIANCE: We become self-reliant as we learn to love work, as we seek inspiration to find the best ways to provide for ourselves, and as we work with family members to meet basic needs. When we are self-reliant, we use our blessings and resources to prepare for and avoid problems. Self-reliance, however, is enhanced as we pray for the courage to meet with faith the challenges that will surely come. Self-reliance also enables us to keep our covenant to care for others.

FOOD STORAGE CALCULATOR: http://lds.about.com/library/bl/faq/blcalculator.htm
I've become ... well ... a tad bit obsessed with the idea of coupon shopping. There's a cable show right now that I can't stop watching about people who rack up a $600+ shopping tab at the grocery store, and then watch it shrink to $8 after all their coupons are entered!!! Some times they even get money back. What??? These folks have years of household items and non-perishables stocked up in their garages and pantries - and they paid almost nothing for it! One featured couple does this monthly, and then donates all of the items to charities - how cool is that? Did you know that you can go to your grocery store club card accounts and load all of the in-store coupons to your card each week so that you will automatically receive any coupon discounts on items that you purchase? (See, http://www.safeway.com/IFL/Grocery/Offers-Landing-IMG, http://www.softcoin.com/Sites/Kroger_ECoupons/Page/HomePage/Retailer/Fred_Meyer for instance.)
I really want to be one of those people. So, in addition to the provident living messages that I will add to this page as I receive them, I thought I'd share my first coupon shopping link that I have been following.
http://thrillingthrifties.blogspot.com/ If you know of others, or have any coupon success stories, send me an email so we can share the wealth! (Submitted by Kathee Nelson)

Anyway, here are some sites that Jodi's Fed Ex guy gave to her. He is a BIG coupon saver!
This is my favorite. It can coincide with Safeway and tell you where the coupons are (which flyer) to save more on their sale items, and then to double it. www.crazywithcoupons.com
these others are OK:

www.raininghotcoupons.com
