Back in June, I surprised Blake for his 30th birthday with a surprise party PLUS a surprise flash mob.
Two things you may not know about Blake:
1: One of his favorite movies is Newsies.
2: He really enjoys musicals...especially the dancing + singing in them.
I wanted to make his birthday extraordinary unforgettable & so the idea of doing a flash mob starting brewing. I picked one of his favorite songs from Newsies, called Lynsi, & asked her to set to work on choreographing a dance to the song. Days later, I received a video text of Lynsi's instructions & dance choreography. I sent that video out to all our family + close friends that would be attending the surprise party. So, in secret & without Blake ever knowing, we all learned the dance & practiced it at every opportune. Three of us (me included) had a little extra part to start the show. I practiced my singing/shouting part driving to and from places, at home when Blake wasn't, and in my head always.
Blake was leaving for North Dakota for the summer before his birthday and so he had no idea that I had picked out a random date to have his surprise party on. I got the park reserved, donuts ordered, dance memorized, let everyone know to show up in Aggie, Jazz, or Packer gear, assigned 30 people to tell a favorite story/memory of Blake, & I had a great cover story for Blake. The day of his party, I nonchalantly let him know that Amy + David invited us to meet them at the park for a hotdog roast + to let London play. I seriously couldn't contain my excitement all day long. We arrived at the park & Blake was blown away at all the people there to support him. It was definitely a surprise.
We started off the party by having the 30 people I assigned tell their favorite memory/thing about Blake. It was so fun listening to all their stories + memories. It filled my heart right up with joy to see all the support & love Blake received from everyone. As the last person gave their memory, we all got into place, turned on the music, & had a flash mob to Newsies. Blakes reaction was absolutely priceless!! He jumped right in & started dancing with us. His smile couldn't have been bigger even if he tried. All family + friends were just dancing their little hearts out + it was so awesome to see it all come together. Blake was absolutely surprised & said this was his favorite birthday ever. PLUS, all the awesome pictures we got of everyone dancing....now, that's priceless.
A day we will always remember.
Thanks everyone for all your support.
30 has never looked so good!
