THIS GIRL. She may be small, but she is MIGHTY! She can get into anything and everything in a
matter of seconds!
This week, Brandon's grandfather passed away, so in a matter of days we snagged a flight for him and made plans for him to go home for the weekend. What started out as a joke that he could take Josie with him, ended up turning in to a legitimate decision. Talk about STRESSFUL! At first I thought, "NO WAY! " But after looking ahead --I had a PACKED weekend--it started to make more sense for her to go with him. I cried. I prayed. I struggled with this decision. I know there are many who feel too as I did initially, NO WAY! And there are probably some who think I am a terrible mother for letting her go. But the reality is, Brandon and I are a team. He's a parent just as much as I am. And he was willing to step in and take Josie and relieve a little stress from my plate. Who am I to say no to that?! I love seeing every picture he texts and look forward to the updates, and can't wait for them to get back tomorrow!

Saturday I got up really early and had everyone dressed, fed and in the car by 6:40 a.m. so we could hit the road to Lubbock. The set up for that is AWESOME here! Every quarter, they have a temple day, where you can take all your kids and leave them at the church that shares a parking lot with the temple. They load the kids up on snacks, activities, toys. My kids seriously don't want to leave!
When we were looking at places to live, I had 3 requests...we prayed to know what to ask for and we took the things we felt impressed by and prayed for those specific things.
1- to be within 16 hours of home
2-to live by an airport
3-to have a temple within an hour so we could go frequently.
We live 16 1/2 hours from home--but really, when you travel there, you go back an hour. So somehow that feels more like 15 1/2 :)
We do have an airport. And it's an airport that Southwest even flies to! That is pretty awesome in my book. But it's small enough that I have never waited for another soul in line at security. Pretty fantastic.
And while the temple isn't within an hour--it' IS within 2 hours--and the babysitting makes it so that we know regardless of whether we find someone to babysit so we can go another time, we have 4 built in opportunities to go every year.
SO MUCH EVIDENCE that the Lord knows us! He knows our wants and needs. And more than anything, this reminds me that HE ANSWERS PRAYERS!

The kids and I stopped at Ihop on the way back. We designated a few minutes of quiet time when we got home, and then I cleaned out the garage to get donations ready for the Scout fundraiser, before gathering everyone once again to load up and go take pictures for a Young Women who goes to church with us, and her 2 friends. As evidenced by my sad blog lately, my camera has not been on the forefront of my life. But it felt really good to have purpose and HAVE to get it out--it is a hobby I really do love and enjoy.
My kids LOVED running around and exploring the grounds. I love listening to their imaginations run wild. And I was shocked when they WANTED to get pics before we left. This really translates into, "hey, take some silly pictures of us doing crazy things"...but I hope it gets them geared up for next week when we attempt real family pictures. (minus the silly faces)

Yes, these funny kids are anything but normal. :) Our life is anything but normal. What IS normal? Does anyone really know?!
Previously these pictures would probably have never made it off my camera.. I am one who tends to be paralyzed by the idea of imperfection for MYSELF. I set such an unrealistic expectation and standard for myself to achieve, that the inevitable falling short makes me crumble. I am afraid to make mistakes, to do things wrong, to be judged and picked apart for not holding it all together. It has caused a tremendous amount of anxiety--to where I feel like a hermit. I am afraid to have people over because I don't want them to see how dirty my floor is or what a mess life has become while I have been trying to learn to balance life and work and parenting and church stuff. It gets really lonely. Horribly lonely, actually. And being a fairly social person at heart, this has been difficult.
I was thinking today as I put my kid in white socks for church, and left church in my purple and black dress with a sweater that wasn't the same purple tone...I'm starting to let go a little. I relaxing some of my OCD about things. I don't know that I have a choice some days--perhaps that is a good thing. But I feel like I am making a little headway in this department. While I'm counting down till Brandon and Josie return, I am happy I didn't let my fears overcome me...I am grateful I chose to let go of something I desperately wanted to control. It's actually been a good thing to sleep like a ROCK and be able to accomplish the 8,000 things on my plate this weekend.
So if you see my kids with a hole in their jeans (cringe!!), or come to my house and see clutter on the counter, or notice that not every picture is truly picture perfect, just know that while it may be judged as imperfection--it's really just me making progress in letting go.
