Happy Birthday Jacob!

Today Jacob turned 3.  Yes, my youngest is now 3 and no I am not ready just yet for another one, but I know you were going to say it :)

We decided to go bowling the day before as a family.  The kids thought it was fun, but after the first game, I think they prefer Wii bowling over real bowling.  Like everything else, technology has taken over in this department.

Hailey loved her pink ball and Jacob just wanted to snuggle with his mommy :)

Today we had a dinner with people we love like Grandma, Aunt Leah, and Brennan's best friend Jordan who happened to be in town on business.
For those of you who don't know, today is the anniversary of my dad's first heart attack.  It's been a really trialling time for my dad since, so he wasn't feeling his best to come over.  We love him still and wish he could have been here with us.

We had a lot of fun and opened lots of presents.  Do to too many toys, we decided to stick with books, particularly Dr Seuss, and a new bike helmet.  We have really gotten into Dr Seuss lately.  We have acquired quite the collection.  I highly recommend them to anyone with kids :)

Happy Birthday Jacob!  You are my special little boy.  You give great hugs and kisses.  One of your favorite things is to snuggle with mommy.  You really like to go fishing with your daddy.  Crafts have become a fun hobby and you absolutely adore your big sister.  You prefer to play with her over anyone else.  You two have become really close.  We are so blessed to have you in our lives!

Oh Jacob, It's Your Day to Shine

So after checking out today at Fred Meyer, Hailey asked to get a drink of water.  While waiting for Hailey to drink out of the water fountain, Jacob decided to push a button on the Lottery card machine.  He could not have had more perfect timing because there was a man standing at the machine and had just inserted his money to buy a lottery ticket.  There just so happened to be some 15 different lottery cards to choose from and Jacob decided he wanted to randomly pick for the guy.  I felt bad and told him to wait right there so I could go get him $2 to pay for my sons compulsive behavior.  Well, he was gone by the time I got back.  Poor guy, I hope you got what you wanted :)  I bet he won something awesome.

Fight or Flight Response

Last night at 3am I had the best title for this blog, but now I can't remember it.

Why do you ask at 3am did I have a title for this blog?  Well, it all started with me fast asleep...

Do any of you remember high school health where we learned about "Fight or Flight" responses?

(Ah, I just remembered my title, but it doesn't sound as good during the day. Funny how that happens.  I'll just use something generic)

The "Fight or Flight" response has to do with how we respond to sudden surprises to put it nicely.  Here's an actual definition:

*Fight-or-Flight-Response:  A physiological reaction in response to stress, characterized by an increase in heart rate and blood pressure, elevation of glucose levels in the blood, and redistribution of blood from the digestive tract to the muscles. These changes are caused by activation of the sympathetic nervous system by epinephrine (adrenaline), which prepares the body to challenge or flee from a perceived threat.

So in a sudden stressful situation, you either fight off your "surprizer" without even thinking about it or you run away.

So back to the story,

I was in a very deep sleep last night when all of a sudden I woke at 3am in the dark to the feeling of someone standing over me with there head in my face and hands touching my hair.

Completely disoriented!  My brain is not working, it was still asleep.

So when it comes to fight or flight, I've always been interested to know which one I would do.  Well, last night I found out which one I would do.

Can you guess?

???????????????

Well, I'm proud to say that in a perceived threatening situation my body and mind chooses to fight!

Unfortunately, it happened to be Jacob.

Don't worry, he is doing just fine and there are no marks to prove it.

(How awful does that sound?!?!)

I swear Jacob, mommy couldn't control it!

But as soon as I woke, I screamed and my hand flew up across Jacob's face without me even thinking about it.

Brennan had his arms wrapped around me in less than a second because his honorable response is to protect me.

Poor, poor Jacob was so scared and confused!  He just sat and cried for a good while until we could calm him down again.

Isn't this awful?

But for some reason I can't stop laughing!  I'm sick, I know.

Jacob, from now on you should just stand far away from the bed and call out to mommy, or better yet just stay in your bed and fall back asleep :)

Brennan's 33rd Birthday!

So for Christmas I bought Brennan a lesson at Benihanas where he got an hour with one of the top chefs to learn how to cook Teppanyaki style!  He got to make 4 different meals, all of which he got to eat.  He was nice enough to bring me home some. Mmmmmmmm.

The other half of the gift was that he got to invite three other people to dinner at Benihanas and cook us all dinner!  He chose to do this on his birthday.  We invited the Lafferty's, who made it all the more fun!

Brennan as always when it comes to cooking did an amazing job :)  It tasted just like a professional cooked it.

You Can Look...

But you can't drive!

If You Haven't Seen Her Lately...

Miss Hailey Rose got a new hair cut :)
