Plenty Of Nothing
In the throes of the biggest financial crisis since the Great Depression, the Dow jumped up over 900 points today. What's it all mean? I have no idea. I don't even look at my 401K since I can't touch it anyway until I'm too old to get any enjoyment out of it!
I am no economics expert, but here in NYC, the restaurants are emptier than Sarah Palin's soul and there seem to be less turista's too. A friend of mine in the service industry says that her bar was pretty barren this weekend.
There are definite signs of massive corporate lay-offs in the next few weeks (just in time for the holidays, Ebenezer).
I guess it was a really good time for me to stop drinking! Those $6 pints sure add up.
We're not recovering from this anytime soon, fellow travelers.

Burning Renditions
Here in the North East, it's hot. Went to around 100 degrees .Big Fucking Deal.
The media makes it out like we've never had hot days before. Get over it people. In fact, I wore a denim jacket to work today. Mostly because I couldn't find my holster and I need to carry my sidearm. But people looked at me like I was crazy to have a jacket on. I like it hot. In fact, let it get to 110 degrees. New Yorkers are a buncha pussies. However, it is nce to see sweaty women in various states of undress.
Speaking of pussies, I am going to see Robert Plant and Alison Krauss tonite. So, aside from their collaborations from their album Raising Sand, I'll get to hear pussified versions of some Led Zep tunes, as they are playing reconstructed versions of "Black Dog", "When The Levee Breaks", and a couple of others. Jeez, old Planty looks an awful lot like this guy these days. But Krauss is kinda hot.
But not as hot as it is outside.

Groundhog Day
One of those days in which everything felt the exact same way as the day before. Woke up, fell out of bed, dragged the brush across my head, etc. The bullshit commute, complete with the usual subway hassles. The dead zone of work. Another loss by these guys. More crap from this shrew. It's not even 10 am and I'm ready bail out, hit a beer distributor and head to the beach.

Top Ten of 2007 (or something)
All the cool kids are doing it, so I’ll pipe in. Here’s my Top Ten for 2007.
- The Spirit Of Radio – Rush : Because this is the best song EVERY YEAR!
- Don’t Stop Believin’ – Petra Haden: The most suspenseful 10 minutes of fiction on TV in years was whether Tony Soprano was gonna eat lead. And then the perfect Punk Rock ending… a cut to black. This is a great version of the song that served as The Soprano’s coda. Besides, I fucking hate Journey. I mean, I really fucking hate Journey. I hate Journey more than I hate the Red Sox. And I really hate the fucking Red Sox.
- The Way It Is – Nicole Atkins : Dusty Springfield in
- Pull Shapes – The Pipettes : Yeah, its manufactured sugar coated girl group pop. But if I have to lust after some British birds, it’s gonna be these whitebread Ronettes, not the slag heap Spice Girls. An eightball, some ether, The Pipettes and a room in Vegas would be very interesting.
- The Decline – NOFX : Because this gets more relevant every year. The soundtrack of the GW Bush era.
- Good Times Bad Times – Led Zeppelin (live O2 arena December 12, 2007) – Because the only thing that would’ve been met with more anticipation and demand was gonna be if Jesus H. Christ rose from the dead and sold tickets through a lottery for salvation. Whether or not it sucked is irrelevant.
- Almost Ready – Dinosaur Jr.: The recorded reunion of the year. Noise is for heroes. And sloppy guitar rules, OK?
- Gypsy Biker – Bruce Springsteen: This song haunts me. It's about time he wrote a good song.
- Hold Tight - Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick & Titch: Because Tarantino is the king of movie soundtracks. And that fuzz tone is wild and wiggy. And this was released like 44 years ago originally and sounds fresher than douchebags like The Bravery.
- Girlfriend – Fuck-Punk Lavigne : Because it doesn’t get any more dishonest and contrived than this. I hope her fucking head explodes on national TV. The perfect song for this reprehensible century. My wish is for her to star in the remake of “2 girls one cup” with Rosie O’Donnell.

Big Blue Comes Through
I happily attended the Giants / Bucs play-off game Sunday and enjoyed the thrashing that Big Blue gave to the locals. Aside from the pain of a 6 am Sunday morning flight outta NYC, a good time was had.There were probably about 10% of the crowd rooting for the Giants (and dressed in Giants gear). We took some good natured ribbing before the game as we traipsed through the parking lots. Predictably, after the game, the abuse got alot nastier. But that's OK, we kicked ass.
With the weather in the high 70's, it seemed somewhat incongruous to be at a football playoff game. The temp shoulda been below freezing, but there's something to be said for scantily clad cheerleaders gyrating 20 rows in front of ya!
I'll give the Bucs props for kick ass tunes also. Plenty of AC/DC and Led Zep during those endless TV time-outs. And seeing those cheerleaders dancin' to The Ocean is a good thing.
Had a fun tailgate before the game sponsored by a local sports bar. I was introduced to the dubious benefits of "The IcePick". A lethal concoction of Vodka, Ice Tea, Lemonade and Tonic. However, the last three ingredients were entirely optional, so these 20 ounce monsters were pretty much straight vodka plus ice.

Here Today, Gone Tomorrow
How strange is the lot of us mortals!

Coming up on a milestone b-day and thinkin' and drinkin' in reflection. Lot of water has washed old bridges away and many friends and family that I went into battle with are gone. Some extremely close friends have died years too early and others have either drifted into the ether or are really only reachable by digital means due to distance (both mileage and emotional).
I suppose that's all natural, what with real life intruding and family/jobs/timing all throwing a spanner in the works. But I never expected to be so seperated by my droogs due to time and mortality at such an early age. People who you think are gonna be there forever. And they never are.

The Blimp Takes Flight Again!
With the news that the mighty Led Zeppelin will fly again (at least for one show), college funds and savings accounts are being liquidated to come up with funds to buy a ticket. Let's see, the starting price should be around $1000 for the nosebleeds!
I am hoping that once mssr's Page, Plant and Jones smell the money, they'll do a proper tour.

Cancer sucks
This is pretty cool. Here in the U.S. of A., "second base" is a term for getting access to boobage. So, some good folks out there came up with these Breast Cancer Awareness shirts. Hey, it's a good cause and the shirt is awesome. Gettin the Led Out
Hey, if you happen to be in NYC Tuesday nite, you should check this out.
You get to indulge your rock star fantasies and get up on stage and sing with a real kick ass punk / metal band. You can sing anything from Black Flag to Led Zeppelin to The Ramones to Black Sabbath. And don't worry if you suck. The band is so good that no one will ever notice!
