Worse Than the Boys!!

Let me just start out by saying that Broc claims to own Alta View ER. With all the "accidents" that he had growing up and the "accidents" he's had as an adult, a lot of money has been filtered into the coffers of IHC. With that being said, I was pretty hopeful that our little family was safe from having recurring visits to any doctor's office, Instacare or ER. You would think that having 4 children, 3 of whom are male, our odds of having to visit said medical facilities would be pretty high...my boys are NOTHING compared to my daughter! Wasn't it last year about this time that Keraghan broke her arm?

Today started out like any other day, Jentz to swimming lessons and play group, Iain to the dentist...Keraghan to the ER! Wait, did I say any other day? While at the dentist Kergs fell backwards off a waiting room chair and bonked her head. She passed out for a couple of seconds but seemed fine. No dialated eyes no throwing up...that is until 45 minutes later, you would have thought that she was trying out for the exorcist! At this point I call her doctor and they tell me to get her to an ER right away. We go to mom's, change me, give her a bath and head for Riverton Hospital (not exactally the closest BUT they have a Primary Children's Satallite). On our way I decide to drop Iain off at Andi's to play (thank you immensely) and Kergs falls asleep!

NOW I AM IN PANIC MODE!

Head injury, throwing up and sleeping are not a great combination.

We get to the ER and check in. Kergs wakes up enough to realize that she doesn't want to be there and them promptly starts throwing up again, so much for the bath and clean clothes on both of us. We go through triage and get to our room and she is still really listless and lethargic.

IN WALKS POPPIE!

I had called my dad, bawling of course, and he left work to come and sit with me. (Don't think too harshly of Broc, he couldn't leave work.) We waited for el doctor and when he comes in Keraghan doesn't want to talk to him or even look at him! With a little prodding we are able to get Keraghan to cooperate and Dr. Guenter (like goon-ter) cautions me on the pros and cons of a CT scan. He said that she was showing all the tell-tale signs of a classic head injury but it was up to me to weigh the risks...HUH? For petes sake! Do I worry about radiation (that could possibly hurt her in 50 years) or take the chance that her brain is swelling and she has a cracked skull? Um, yeah, I opted for the CT scan - better to be safe than sorry, right?

She was an angel during the scan! Didn't move a muscle - almost! After about an hour of waiting, Dr. Guenter came in and told us that her CT was perfect! No swelling, no fractures and no bleeding! Her tylenol had kicked in and she was full of piss and vinegar once again!

Yes, I am the WORST Blogger EVER!!

You know, I didn't think that working full-time would make me absent in cyberspace...BUT...it definitely did! The last thing I can think to do when I get home from 10 hours of working on a computer at work is getting on the computer and working some more! I have decided, however, that I am going to really try to get on and post at least once a week. I know that this is a good way for people to keep tabs on one another (that one's for you Amy) so I am going to post some pictures from the past 10 months to do a quick catch-up and then start fresh on Sunday. Here's to making it happen!!

Last year for Mom & Dad's Christmas present; Andrea, Brian and I got permission from the guy that bought the house we grew up in to cut out the slab of concrete that we put our hands in (September 26, 1982).

Broc and I were invited to an ADULT ONLY Halloween costume party. We had a blast!

Annual Christmas jammies. This year they were navy blue and I sewed our initials on the left leg in plaid, OH and the waist tie was the same plaid.

Iain got to go shooting with the big boys in January. He LOVED it!

Hunter made the Bingham High School Soccer Team as a Freshman! They made it to the quarterfinals and lost to Alta.

Jentzen turned 5 and had a big soccer birthday party with all of his friends! He gets to start Kindergarten in 2 weeks...sniff, sniff.

Iain turned 8 and decided to get baptized!

Iain had his first piano recital. He memorized 2 songs.

Iain tried out for competition soccer with USA (along with his cousin Tanner and Hunter's other brother Matt). He made it onto the White 2 team!

For Memorial Day weekend we went down to St. George with Marma and Poppie and the Ingleby's and went to Pipe Springs, Springdale and Grafton. Keraghan told us all a story about the Camelow's...

On July 2, 2011 the whole Arnold family traveled to Promontory, Utah to visit the Golden Spike Monument. None of us had ever been there and the kids had a blast watching the trains meet at the Golden Spike.

Summer in a Nutshell

I believe that it's long overdue for some updates from this household! Looking back on the summer it seems like we were busy but maybe, not so much. I am going to do my best to include what I can from our adventures of the past 2 months. I'm just a plain old slacker! Here is our summer in a nutshell...

Broc was honored as a "Hero Among Us" at the ReAL Salt Lake Soccer game on July 2. I wasn't able to snap a photo of him on the field but he was nominated by his coworkers and was presented with a ReAL jersey with our last name on the back. Broc's mom and dad came along with the Kimball's and Damian & Kallie and my parents came too. It was fun to have so much family support him.

The 4th of July is a BIG holiday in the Stutz family. This year we decided to have a weekend full of fun at Jackie and Travis' house. We met for breakfast at their house then headed over to the Granite parade (by Doug and Paula's) then we headed back over to Jax and Trav's for a BBQ. Stefan and Mike were able to come into town so we had the whole Stutz family there to celebrate.

Mom and Dad got Snowbird again this year. Brian and Shelly let us take Cole for a few days and boy did my boys have fun with him!! We went swimming, we saw Toy Story 3, played at the park and ran around the room throwing swim floaties at each other. It was a blast to have some cousin time, we missed the Stinkleby's but I hope to plan something like this again soon.

This year for Pioneer Day we were invited by my Aunt Tammie to a park in Lehi where they have "Foam Days". Okay, so I don't know if that's really what it's called but the fire department sets up one of their trucks and they spray foam all over the field. As you can see from the pictures it gets very deep. Iain and Jentz seemed to have fun, Kergs wasn't quite sure about the whole thing. After the festivities we went back to my Aunt's house for a BBQ. I can't wait to go again next year. I think it is a new family tradition.

We were able to switch Iain to A track this year which meant that he started school on July 26th. He was so excited! He is in Mrs. Labrum's class and she has been very good for him so far. She challenge's Iain and doesn't let him slide through any of his subjects. His handwriting has improved and he is doing very good with chapter books.

In August Keraghan fell off the kitchen counter and fractured her arm. We have 3 boys first and it's our flippin' daughter that breaks her arm, what are the odds? She only had to wear it for 3 weeks and she quickly learned how to use it as a weapon on the boys. A week before it was due to come off it slipped off her arm, Broc cut it open and slipped it right back on and then taped it closed with packing tape. The doctor said that Broc was a genius and that we could just keep it like that for another week.

Back in February, the Marshall's invited us to the Dave Matthew's Concert that was held in August. Broc and I were so excited to be able to go out on a date. We had a picnic in the car and then had a blast people watching with Ed and Kenna. I can't wait to go to another concert with them.

Finally, in August we had our first ever Stutz family camping trip! Jackie's really good friend, Jodi, got permission for us to use her grandparents cabin near Rockport. We spent Friday, Saturday and Sunday boating, sitting by the campfire, tubing down the river and eating our guts out like only the Stutz family can do. We had so much fun. We have to make sure that we do it again next year.

Colorado Tournament

After missing Hunter's Boulder Tournament last year, Broc and I decided to squirrel away some money so that we could take the family to Boulder this year. The tournament ended up being over Father's Day weekend and I don't think Broc would have wanted to spend it any other way. The night we were supposed to leave, however, we almost ended up staying home! The Durango started to overheat on my way to drop Maddie of at Andi's. We ended up limping into a repair shop and begging them to take a look at the engine. We were supposed to leave town at 4:00 but at that point we still didn't know what was wrong with the car and if it would even be fixed in time to leave. Luckily we were able to squeeze Hunter into the last car leaving town so that if we couldn't leave for Colorado until Friday, he would at least be there for his first game Friday morning. When word finally came at 5:30 that the car was fixed and we could leave town, the kids were so restless and anxious that I couldn't wait to be gone! We finally left around 7:00. After this car ride I determined that the best invention for family trips is a portable DVD player. The kids were gems! We stopped a couple of times to get out and strech and by the time we reached Cheyenne I told Broc that he'd better get me to a bathroom soon or I was using one of Keraghan's diapers to pee. Wouldn't you know as we got off the exit there was road construction ALL over and we couldn't find a turn into a gas station! We finally pulled into our hotel in Longmont around 2:30 in the morning.

Broc could give a play by play of every game that was played this weekend, me...not so much. What I can say is that Hunter played amazing and his team took the Gold Medal for their age division. 5 games in 3 days, he took a couple of ice baths (Iain and Jentzen stood outside the bathroom door and laughed themselves silly because Hunter was screaming like a girl, Broc just told them that one day they would understand). We had lots of fun with the team, a picnic on Friday afternoon and dinner together at The Sink Saturday night. Depending on what happens with High School tryouts in the Spring we may or may not get to go again next year.
This was the first "family" trip that we have all been on together. The last time we went anywhere Jentz was only 3 months old. Iain and Jentzen love road trips and Keraghan is happy as long as she is with her brothers.

Preschool Graduation

Jentz graduated from preschool in June! He starts his second year in September!

OLD!

I am feeling very old today. I know that 33 isn't old in the grand scheme of things but today it feels like it. I don't know why, but this week has been blah. I've had no energy for anything, all I've done is lay on the couch and go to work. I think Jentzen and Keraghan think I've lost my mind. Maybe I have? I feel slightly overwhelmed with all the projects that need to be done here at the house. I hope that 1) I find my missing energy, 2) I remember all that I want to accomplish this summer and 3) I don't forget to have some fun! WOW, how depressing was all that? The highlight of my day - Andi picked up Jentz to play with Biller - THANK YOU FOR GIVING ME SOME SANITY!!

Memorial Day

I know, I've said it before Memorial Day is a BIG Arnold Family tradition. It is usually the first camping trip of the summer for most of us and for my little family sometimes it's the only camping trip. This year, like in years past, my Uncle Denny and Aunt Sue were there. It wouldn't be Memorial Day without their family too! We had a fun addition this year, my Aunt Susan's nephew and his wife and kids came too, Joe and Michal! Hopefully they will continue to come, we all had such a blast!! The first full day, Saturday, it was a little brisk. The cloud cover would NOT go away so that combined with the breeze made for some chilly weather. Sunday Dad rented a pontoon boat. The dad's took the kids out for some fishing while the mom's stayed and enjoyed some sunshine and visiting. The kids did so much better than we all thought, they lasted for about 5 hours before Joe designated himself as the "go back home dad" and brought all of the screaming meemee's back to camp. Sunday also happened to be little Tanyon's birthday so we had lots of visitors drive up to celebrate. By Monday I was ready to head for home, camping always makes me tired, but the kids really wanted to stay longer. Maybe next time we will accommodate? Probably not!
