The SECOND countdown is 7 days until the White Rock Marathon where I'll walk a half marathon for the first time in my life! It's also my 58th birthday. My goal is to finish. I don't care if I'm the last person in as long as I get across the finish line within the alloted time. Today when I was walking through our neighborhood and had passed a neighbors house for the 8th time, she stopped me to ask how many miles I was walking today. When I told her what was happening she said that she had run that marathon 12 years ago. She said, "It will be one of the hardest things you'll do, but it will be one of the most rewarding when you cross the finish line." Since I've never been an athlete or involved on the participation side of any formal sporting event, this is pretty exciting for me. I've always been a "great" (maybe that's not the word my kids would use) athletic supporter (lol) for all my kids, but this is a whole new adventure. I'm pretty pumped!
We had a great Thanksgiving in Prosper at Jason & Jenn's. It was alot better than the planned Luby's dinner for just the two of us. The Morse's had also invited us to come to Temple and we appreciated their invitation. We just weren't sure of all of our plans at the time. We got to visit with Larry's mom & stepdad on the farm in Mangum, OK on Wednesday before heading to Prosper/McKinney Thursday morning. Then Friday we traveled to Houston to spend the night with Mom & Dad. Dad & Larry went to a high school football playoff game and Mom & I watched a couple of Christmas chick-flicks. Enjoyed the laid back time! Saturday we went to Lake Conroe to Pam & Dickey's house. It is alway fun to visit with them. Dickey is like a brother to Larry and he really enjoys spending time with him. I kinda like spending time with Pam, too. Ha. On Sunday we attended the wedding reception for my cousin in Houston. Alot to do in 3 days, but it was good to visit with family.
Now I am up to my eyeballs in Holiday Spirit! We had 3 parties this week and we're in the middle of building a float for the Christmas parade. Make that 2 floats...lighted floats. I'll post some pictures when we're all done.
But, since one of the parties was at my house we had all the decorations up and the gifts are wrapped and under the tree. Yea! Now I can sit back and just wait for the kids to get here! Can't wait!
