Creative Scrappers is BACK! Process video for "Dems"...

I am SOO excited to announce that Creative Scrappers is back and I will be a part of the Design Team again for the next term!  Check out the awesome sketch Kristine created for this month:

Here is the page that I created using a whole bunch of goodies from my stash!  It feels SO go to go through my stash!

As I look back on this page, I can't believe how many DIFFERENT products I used: acetate, stickers, chipboard, pockets, tags, brags, enamel dots, mists, stitching....a ton of stuff!

I have gotten on the process video bandwagon and put together this process video of how I made this page!  I also explain what "DEMS" actually means!  :)

Feb. Scrapbook Circle Kit- lunch and selfies

Just a quick post today to share a few pages that I made with the February Scrapbook Circle kit!  just WAIT til you get this kit...papers from releases that haven't even been available for purchase yet (October Afternoon, Chickaniddy Crafts).

I also wanted to share these two pages because they are both based on sketches from Creative Scrappers this month (and of course I wait until the last minute to link up)!

I will share more details about them both during the month of February!  Stay tuned!

We are Perfect Together- *Scrapbook Circle Jan. kit*

When I opened up the January Scrapbook Circle kit, it was like spring hit me right in the face! The colors are so bright and fun, and although many of the papers are from valentine's collections, they are versiatle enough to use for anything, and I love that about kits!

I was drawn to this bright, watercolor print paper from the Basic Grey Fresh Cut collection and thought it would be perfect for some girly photos of Charlotte and I from a wedding in November that we were both in together.  I used sketch #258 from Creative Scrappers that you can see HERE.  I began by splattering the background with white paint, and the white cardstock strip with black paint.

I stuck closely to the sketch, and the squares that weren't photos I wanted to really jazz up a bit.  On this one, I used the January cutting file from the Scrapbook Circle store and wove the metal clip through the holes.  I added a fussy cut heart doily from a piece of Crate Paper and popped another heart from the same paper off of it.

I needed to balance some of the green color that was on the patterned paper, and the Heidi Swapp "Citron" color shine mist was a PERFECT match!  I painted the exclusive SBC wood veneer square white and then misted it with the citron mist.  I added another small doily and the xoxo from a piece of paper.

Finally, I layered some fussy cut flowers and a doily on another square.

We Cropped til we DROPPED!!!

A few weeks ago I went to my favorite weekend of the year...a scrappy retreat with some of my bestest scrappy friends!!!  The Crop Til You Drop retreat is hosted by Sara Zenger and is located in Ogdensburg, NY.  Heather flew in from Texas to spend the weekend with it!  It is the 2nd time in less than a year that we have all been able to get together!

I used some Amy Tan Cut & Paste for this page.  I love the bold colors and all the different embellies that come in this collection!  My design is based off of sketch #254 at Creative Scrappers.

I basically stuck to the sketch design.  The speech bubble was a perfect spot for my title and some arrows directing your eye to the photo.  Behind the speech bubble is a vellum envelope which I stuck a tag in for journaling.  But silly me, I forgot I had put the tag in there and started journaling on the tag on the bottom of the page instead!!!  Oh well!

And see that adorable piece of flair?  It was an exclusive for the retreat participants and is the icon for the retreat!  Love that I got to use it on a page!

I can't believe that November has come to an end!!!  Bring on December!

The First Snowfall!

A about a week or so ago we had our first snowfall!  I was very surprised waking up and seeing how much we actually had on the ground, and some big puffy flakes were coming down.  I ran to wake up the kids and told them to run to the windows to look outside.  They just both stared and said "SNOW!".....and just sat there watching.  It was kinda peaceful...for about 2 minutes!  :)

I used sketch #255 at Creative Scrappers and rotated it.

I have been going through my stash of older stuff and pulling out all my neutral tone on tone papers because I use them the most as backgrounds.  Now I have a little pile of background papers just to pull out and use!  This chevron print one is from Crate Paper Sleigh Ride collection from last year.  I used a few other bits of paper from that line and also some of the new Crate Paper "Bundled Up".

I began by splattering some gold an blue mists on the background and then layering some papers behind my photos according to the sketch.  I used one of my oldest punches, a snowflake punch from The Paper Studio, and punched a few from some patterned paper.  For one of them, I cut out the negative and used it behind the top right corner of the photo.  Oh, and then there is my FAVORITE gold thread that I used on my sewing machine!

I layered some chipboard elements, stickers and tags around the photo, and use part of a chipboard piece for my title.

Finally I embellished some more with small punched snowflakes, sequins,a piece of flair, and some gold threaded twine.

I love that we are having some winter-like events happen already so that I can begin to dig into all my new Christmas/Winter collections!

I have a challenge based on this page up on the My Scraps & More forum today to use some tone on tone paper for your background, an older punch from your stash, and some scraps of paper that you have been hoarding!  Check out the details HERE.

I was honored to have a layout published in this sketch book.  Although I can't share the sketch with you, here is a look at my page:

Guess what grandma and grandpa got the kiddos for Christmas?  Wheels!  They are so spoiled!

This was a fun page to do.  I like the grid design of the squares of papers.  I used a chevron stencil and some white paint on the background and splattered with gold and black paint.

I just added some chipboard pieces from MME, and a few other bits from MME, Basic Grey, and Crate Paper.

Eggs....for Christmas...CS #250

Wanna hear a cute story?

We went to go visit Santa Claus.  Charlotte got up on his lap and he of course asked her what she wanted for Christmas.  I really didn't know what she was going to say because I hadn't asked her myself, yet.

So she sat and smiled and then replied, "Eggs!"

I wasn't quite sure that I heard her right, so I said, "Charlotte, honey, what did you say?"

"Eggs!", she said.

Santa and I looked at each other.  Puzzled, I said, "Honey, why do you want eggs for Christmas"?

And she so casually said, "So I can make a cake!"

Do you know how hard it is to find WHITE plastic Easter eggs at CHRISTMAS time?  Oh yes, they HAD to be white.

Santa made a special gold glitter covered egg carton and wrapped it with a big red bow, and Charlotte got her eggs for Christmas!  (BTW, I hear that white plastic eggs only cost around $2 online for a dozen, but you have to pay $10 in shipping...I mean it was the ONLY thing she asked for...)

I'm so sad this is the last sketch for Creative Scrappers for a while!  It has been a source of inspiration and a starting point for years!

I took the whole design of the sketch and scaled it down to a smaller version on the page.  I really liked doing the blocks of paper.  On my title, I machine stitched with some gold thread.  I love gold thread for Xmas pages.

Behind the photo, I wanted to add something to make it stand out more, so I used some modeling paste and a large circle stencil.  Then I splattered with gold mist.  The star I created by painting on vellum with gold Glimmer Glam, cutting out a star shape, and then added another prefab glitter star on top.

I did some layering of some little bits under my photo, and the decided to journal around the outside of the whole page.

Creative Scrappers Sketch #246- Love them cookies!

I seriously don't care anymore if food gets all over the house, because it's gonna even if I try and make sure it doesn't.  So I gave my little guy an Oreo because he wanted a "deet-de" (cookie) and let him go.  I guess this is the way he eats his oreos!

This was based on the latest sketch from Creative Scrappers.  If you didn't hear the news, Creative Scrappers will be taking a little break after sketch #250 (March 3rd).  But all the fabulous sketches will still be posted for a long time!

I used the December Gossamer Blue kit for this page.  Remember when lollipop flowers were all the rage? Just layered circles that were distressed...I used to like those, so I did something similar on my page.  I just took some bright colored circles and stacked them together!

I created a large, rectangular frame with kraft paper behind my photos, and then stitched over it with brown thread.  A few sentiments here and there and that's pretty much it!  I really love using circles on my page, so this sketch was perfect!

Creative Scrappers Sketch #244

Since I had kids, there is one special girl who doesn't get scrapped nearly enough anymore.  We have had a lot of snow since we've moved back to NY and I can tell that she really really missed it!  I think she would rather have below freezing temps and big snowbanks to stick her head in over those 100 degree days and the pool anyday!!!!

Here is my take on today's Creative Scrappers sketch #244.

And the sketch by my friend Heather Leopard:

I used some papers from different kits and some that I had in my stash, plus I raided my stash for a few other things, as well.  I have been pretty good, lately, about digging into things that I haven't used in a while.

On the background I splattered some white paint and machine stitched with silver thread.  I am really into metallics lately!

The journaling spot is an old transparency that I painted on the back with white paint to make the writing stand out more.  A few snowflake punches, and that's it!

I KNEW I had t he chipboard words" My Girl" somewhere in my stash, so I spent about 30 minutes looking for it and finally found it in the old Crate Paper Line Emma's Shoppe.

Hope you are staying warm!  It is supposed to get pretty chilly here this week.  As a matter of fact, we aren't supposed to have a day that goes over 19 degress until Feb. 11.  Joy.

Hey Ladies!!!! Creative Scrappers #242

In the fall, lady bugs swarm the house.  Now, one lady bug is cute and all, but 100's???  Ick.   But that didn't bother Charlotte...she loved picking up the ladies and putting them in her hand. All I could think about when seeing this photo of her hand filled with TWELVE lady bugs was the song from Sesame Street, Lady Bug Picnic.

I used the latest Creative Scrappers sketch for this page.  I LOVED the funky shapes of the photos in this sketch.

I started by cutting my photos and some papers into shapes.  I wanted to do something on the page that reminded me of lady bugs, so I punched some red circles and then splattered them with black mist.
On the background, I used a stencil and some modeling paste to give some texture.

A few little bits here and there, and then some hand stitching to make some bug movement lines!

I found this badge at a quirky gift shop during my Christmas shopping.  It reminds me of a Beastie Boys song!  :)

OK, on a related note (and you are going to think I am so strange, if you don't already), but I swear I can SMELL ladybugs!  I think they omit some type of pheromone or something, and I can tell where there is one near.  Maybe I was a lady bug in a former life....

Creative Scrappers #238- Finally Fall!

Another Sunday and another Creative Scrappers sketch!  Where is the time GOING??   

I started this page back in October and worked with some of my fall photos and the October Gossamer Blue kit!  I am SOOO glad to be back in an area where we can experience what fall should REALLY be like, with bright colors, crunching leaves, apple picking, and all the other things that go along with this season. 

And here is this weeks sketch, #238.  I was inspired by the ray pattern and the scattered butterflies.  I found a free ray pattern cutting file on the web and cut out my background. Then I backed it with some yellow paper.  I stitched around the rays with some dark brown twine to create a bit of a frame.

The butterflies in the sketch reminded me of a banner, so I cut some leaves and stitched them into a banner and arranged them on the page.

I added some journaling and just a few embellishements like buttons and brads.

Creative Scrappers sketch #236

Hi everyone!  It's Sunday again, and time for another Creative Scrappers sketch!  If you have been busy for the past few days because of the holiday, but are ready to get back to scrapping, this sketch is a great place to start!

Here is my page using the October Scrapbook Circle kit and the sketch by my good friend Heather Leopard (for Creative Scrappers).

And here is the sketch:

What struck me about this sketch were the paint drips, so I started with that!  I used some watered down mists and a big paintbrush to add some light grey drips on the edges of the page.  Then on the background, I did a LOT of stitching, back and forth, with some white thread.

I LOVE the vellum feather in the kit!  I added a few small bits of doily here and there, too!
